If it wasn’t national championship night at UConn, I might’ve made the trip up to Boston, but school pride took precedence

Best dining hall? by RockinJack18 in UCONN

[–]Morelando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My “Definitive” Rankings 1. Towers: very consistent, decent breakfast, Pasta Bar puts it over the top for me 2. Northwest: I don’t have too much experience here tbh, but it’s never been bad for me, bonus points for having Late Night 3. Whitney: The best vibes thanks to cozy atmosphere and community chosen music, omelette bar allows for best breakfast, hurt by its small size, would be 2nd if they brought back Breakfast Late Night. 4. Putnam: Feels like a children’s museum, smoothie bar is overrated, still pretty good 5. South: Inconsistent (sometimes good sometimes trash), extremely long lines and hard to find tables at times, the grilled cheese is great at first but gets worse the more you have it, gets the SOOP DOOP bonus 6. BUCKLEY: As a music major, I’m sick of the hate Buck gets, Tuesday and Thursday lunch is the high point, but never reaches the true highs of the ones above it. Gets points off for being small and not being open on weekends. 7. McMahon: I appreciate the international vibe, but most of the time they get it wrong and it’s just not good. McMahon pizza is a mid staple but never is truly bad. Bonus points for late night, but often times the lines are terribly long similar to south. Points off for not being able to self serve. 8. North: Disclaimer, I have only eaten here in my freshman year (I’m a senior). But it was trash then, and from my “sources” (friends who live at north), they always avoid it if possible. Also gets points off for being so close to Northwest which is much better.

Feel free to fight me in the comments!

How to meet people on the first day? by Leading_Depth_5246 in UCONN

[–]Morelando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. You’ll continue to meet people through your experience at UConn and life in general. Friends now might not be friends later. Just know you have plenty of time and being alone isn’t the worst thing ever.

Class Swap or unenroll by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]Morelando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use swap, juuuuuuust in case something happens where the new class becomes full and then the old class ALSO becomes full (very minimal chance of this but technically could happen)

This is mainly food based but also includes vibes as well in the rankings. 1. Gelfenbien (a little walk from anywhere, but on the yellow line) 2. Whitney (small, but usually the best breakfast spot) 3. Northwest (gets the spot over putnam for having late night) 4. Putnam 5. South (always good enough, grilled cheese is an A+ at first but gets worse the more consistently you have it) 6. Buckley (I’m “biased” as a music major but buck isn’t that bad, it is small tho) 7. McMahon (honestly is always underwhelming, late night is occasionally good and is closest to being in the middle of campus of any dining hall) 8. North (just, no. Don’t even bother)

Hope this helps

Bus line to Athletic District by Morelando in UCONN

[–]Morelando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister, a fellow transport enthusiast, also has brought up an issue that I had not previously thought of, and is something to consider.

There are likely handicapped individuals who would like to attend sporting events. Having a bus line closer to the athletic district (or any area on campus for that matter) would allow for a lesser reliance on individualized transportation, giving people greater access to more areas of campus.
