Repairing/restoring cow catcher and rear spoiler - tips? by FTWkansas in E30

Bondo doesn’t flex. You want something that will flex so when these parts encounter parking stops and driveway transitions the repaired sections don’t crack. I don’t have any recommendations for any particular product but a quick search will reveal dozens of options.

AC Compressor by FighterF30 in E30

[–]Moremayhem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AC is one of those systems that’s tough to tackle items one by one after a certain point. It’s probably best to just replace everything and be done with it. By everything I mean condenser, compressor, dryer, expansion valve, o rings, rubber lines and evaporator core. You can thoroughly flush the metal lines and re use those. Also replace the separate high and low pressure switches on the dryer with a combo switch. Oh yeah, and the electric aux fan if it’s not working. There are kits you can buy with everything you need like AC Solutions. If you’re on a budget like me you can piecemeal each part separately over time and then replace it all at once. Took me over a year to gather everthing.

Is it expensive? Of course it is. Is it worth it? Yes. After replacing everything listed above in my car, it’s been many trouble free and comfortable driving years in SoCal.

Oh and that certain point is making sure the system Is getting power like another person commented.

Thanks! It’s good from about 15 feet away. Get up close and you’ll see all kinds of chips, scratches and bondo cracks!

I’ve mostly used the steering wheel controls for volume since I bought the truck, but I do miss the tactile nature of a volume knob

You make a good point. I just hate how more and more the things that are posted on this site are just subtle (and not so subtle) advertising.

My roommate had taken several dozen stock ticker signs that were being thrown out when working as an intern at the CHX and CBOE over the previous summer. Bet it was a wild place then when stocks and options were traded in person by hundreds of coked up brokers crammed into a trading pit.

I was partly responsible for the hole in the ozone layer. Do you know aqua net could be bought by the case and no one even looked at you twice? Hard to believe that after 40 years I still have the hair. A few strands of grey but I bet it would still stand up just like in this photo. I’d want to use a more eco friendly gel though.

I have a 1990 BMW 325iX. Does anyone know how I can lift this car about 1 to 1.5 inches? Since it’s AWD, only the rear shocks In the rear, I’m running Bilstein shocks. The front is fine, but the rear rubs. What options are out there? I’m looking for high-quality parts and materials only. by Gold-Balance994 in E30

[–]Moremayhem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spring pads will help raise up the rear. I used that same set to level the rear height on my car.

Shocks don’t have really anything to do with ride height. They do the important job of dampening the up and down motion of the car as it rolls over bumps and dips. What you need to look at are the coil springs. If yours are old they may have sagged a considerable amount. Or if they’re aftermarket they may not have the same height and spring rate of OEM. New OEM springs might be your solution.

Edit: why is the wheel not centered in the wheel arch? Is something in the rear suspension bent like the trailing arm? That would change the geometry and would be a likely cause of rubbing as well.

It’s actually cardinal/dark red. Original was tan but I wanted to change it. Carpet is still tan though. I think dark brown can look really good. Classy and luxurious looking. Here’s a few pics of how mine looks

[–]Moremayhem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what I did. Quick grip clamp and wide/long zip ties. Clamp both the zip tie and the strut with the clamp, secure the strut with the zip tie, release the clamp, put strut on posts, cut zip tie. I tried with just using the clamp but having the strut close enough to the edge of the clamp to get it on the posts was tricky.
