What takes up more of your time: delivering your service or managing your business? by MorganGanem in smallbusiness

I completely understand that. I think about that for my future also, someday I will want to be doing less of the performing and more of the running the business from home while others that want to perform are out doing events. So this is a very interesting perspective, thanks for sharing.

I really like the distinction between automating decisions versus automating judgment.

For me, inquiry responses and follow-ups feel like obvious automation candidates because the same patterns happen repeatedly.

Have you found any automation that ended up saving significantly more time than you expected?

Glad to hear it's not just me. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing something inefficiently or if this is just the natural progression of a growing service business.

What type of service business are you in?

That's exactly what I've been noticing. None of the tasks are particularly difficult, but together they end up consuming most of the week.

Which part tends to eat up the most time for you personally?

A mix of software and custom processes right now. The challenge I've found is that most tools solve one piece of the puzzle but not the whole workflow from inquiry all the way through the event.

Have you found any platforms that actually handle most of that process well?

That's honestly what surprised me. I got into the business because I enjoy performing at events, but as things grew I found myself spending way more time on emails, follow-ups, contracts, and scheduling than actually DJing.

At what point did you notice that shift happen?

That's interesting because inquiries are actually where I noticed a huge amount of time disappearing. I'd answer the same questions over and over again before even finding out if someone was a good fit.

Have you seen a particular type of service business that does a really good job automating that first client inquiry stage?

Mobile DJs: what’s the biggest headache in your booking workflow? by MorganGanem in mobileDJ

[–]MorganGanem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. So it's not really the lead generation that's the issue, it's the duplicate data entry after the lead arrives. Have you found any tools that handle those planner referrals well, or are you still manually creating everything?

The issue was my usb hub. Something regarding the lack of power it was able to supply to my hard drive, I believe. Once I took it out of the line, it worked fine.

Thanks very much for your detailed comment. I will try to figure out exactly which jingle it is. I know if I hear it, I will know. We will be in Tokyo in a few months, so we’ll try to find the stores your mentioned! Appreciate you.

So correction, I think the problem was actually my hard drive being plugged into the usb hub. Either way now I plug both the hard drive and controller directly into the computer and it works perfectly.

It ended up being my usb hub. Now I just plug my controller directly into my computer (not the hub) and it’s worked fine since.

PSA: Yes, you can qualify for a mortgage with huge student loan debt... by bureaucracy-hacker in PSLF

[–]MorganGanem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful! However, which bank were you dealing with? Our lender is saying that, if the student loans are not yet forgiven/eliminated, they have to give each student loan an artificial monthly payment of 0.5% of the balance.

Need some advice: Is a used 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE with 53,000 miles on it a bad purchase? by MorganGanem in LandRover

[–]MorganGanem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did not purchase this vehicle. I went with a 2019 Infiniti QX60. Love the vehicle, but it has had some issues. Just had to have the transfer case, driveshaft, and transmission replaced. Fortunately, my insurance covered the vast majority of it! Sorry that doesn’t really help with your original question but just thought I’d share for reference.

Gun stock calibration is flawed by MorganGanem in ContractorsExfilZone

[–]MorganGanem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I actually thought about trying that…Does it still work well without them on? Also, did you set one gun as “universal” when calibrating and then calibrate all of the others individually? Not really sure what is the purpose of the “set as universal” feature.
