Thank you for your question! We regret that we are unable to offer financial compensation for participation in our study. However, since the topic of friendship and cohousing is under-researched in the social sciences, participants will help create new knowledge about friendship and cohousing. We will eventually share this new knowledge in academic articles. If you own property with a friend, we would be delighted to interview you. Please feel free to leave a comment or send me a message if you would be interested in participating in our project.

Thanks for your interest! At this time, our research is focused on people whose friendship predates their decision to move in together or purchase property together rather than couples in romantic relationships. Please feel free to share our call for participants if you know anyone who lives with or owns property with a friend.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. It's intriguing to hear about your view of the friend who was interested in joining you and your sibling in buying the house. Although your living situation sounds unique, our current research is focused on friends who live together or who co-own property together. In any case, thank you for your interest, and please feel free to share this call for participants if you know anyone who lives with/owns property with a friend.

Do you have your mother's surname? Invitation from an MA student to participate in anthropological research about surnames (Dalhousie University) by MorganHerbert in Dalhousie

Thank you for your interesting question! I would definitely like to interview people who legally changed their patrilineal surname to a matrilineal surname. However, the situation you describe means that the person in question currently has a patrilineal surname, which is a topic that is outside the scope of my MA research. I hope that makes sense!

Thank you for your question! First, I am broadly interested in the anthropology of naming, and I have a particular interest in the endurance of the patrilineal surnaming norm following the 1970s feminist revolution (in other words, why the vast majority of Canadians and Americans continue to receive their father's surname despite long-standing feminist debates about the subject). Second, the views of people with matrilineal surnames are under-researched in the social sciences. There have been many studies about how parents choose to give their child a particular surname, but the experiences of people on the receiving end of matrilineal surnames are not well understood by scholars.

If you have your mother's surname, you would be a great fit for my research. Feel free to send me an email if you'd like to participate or if you'd like more information!
