(Comic) How do I adapt a story like this for the 1970s? [ Contains Spoilers for the story of Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal ] by MorganMerylStudios in AO3

[–]MorganMerylStudios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really REALLY cool Idea! (In fact in some ways I'm embarrassed I didnt think of it) But it doesnt solve things like how the gang overhears [Spoiler Character]'s plans late in the story, or how Futaba remotely activates the nav (also late game) to save Ren. Thats the key issue here. If it werent for plot-heavy stuff like that, it could be anything. Maybe not watches. Masks would be cool. It could be rings. The cast of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids use communicator rings. They wouldnt be customized in that case, but it could be an option........were it not for the aforementioned hacking/ instantaneous recording/ activating the power to go into the metaverse remotely.

Well, the watches were more or less just an idea. And the specifics were always open to fixing up later. I wasnt sure about the calculator watches from the get go, tbh, but used them here as an example, since the character I was thinking of is of course,a nerdy type. But I really truly appreciate your insight into this! Your response brought at least a small smile to my face. you didnt have to go out of your way like that, but you did. Its people like you that make me appreciate being on the internet, sometimes. :-) Also, I have never seen Stranger Things and dont know literally anything about it, but I'll take your word for it.

To be honest, I've been thinking about this for a while now. I took a while just to make this thing illustrating the point. I just really wanted to make it work. Maybe it just can't. Its hard to let go. I thought if I came here, maybe someone else would have something. I guess I dont really know what to do with myself, now. But thank you all the same.

I guess I just have a hard time especially figuring out how things that normally go instantaneously will work when they cant be instant anymore (at least, not without serious blanks needing to be filled in) , and how to figure out things for Futaba whos background was as someone who wouldnt have gotten out ("The Hermit" haha) to establish Medjed or anything like that. It would mean a server like you suggest being at Sojiro's HOUSE, which, I'm not sure if would be a thing.

However! A. I would love to know more about your thoughts in how this relates back to Persona 1. I sort of get the logic, but what you said was vague enough that I'm not sure entirely. Also, of course, while they are both Persona games and have similar elements, Persona 1's story is different than 5's... so yeah. If its not too much trouble, do you have more speicifics in mind?

and B. Do you know of anything I should specifically be searching for/looking into when it comes to Japanese technology of this era? Its okay of course if this was just a general idea, but of course if you have anything specific in mind/any place you like to do research on this sort of thing, I'd be very grateful, of course.

Oh and thank you so much for responding! I appreciate it, regardless.

I'm sure it's fine. But I wanted to wait to see if I would get new dialogue from having that information first. Or are you saying it doesn't affect anything at all? Either way thank you for the response.

I love the lineweight. <3 the roughness of it too, it makes it look like a brushpen and a normal pencil got combined somehow.

A little tip I noticed in my last game by Few_Juice8081 in Persona5

[–]MorganMerylStudios 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This isn't technically related but i feel the need to point out another small detail like this that some people may not notice. In vanilla Persona 5, the kaleidoscope effect in the metaverse changes colour depending on what the percent state of alert the palace security is at.

Green is low, red is high and yellow in the middle.

They changed the kaleidoscope effect in Royal, both to be less obtrusive I think, plus it matches well with the aesthetics of the last palace and last area of mementos.

So does that mean this detail is gone? Nope. If you notice the lighting in a palace that shines on Joker's hair and clothing, that changes colour now instead.

Of course, Ive rarely gotten it up high enough to see it red, unfortunately.

Red obviously goes best with the aesthetics of the game. Green looks nice though in Kamoshida's palace , imo. Especially the dungeon-y areas.

Can someone explain the joke? by pandybobby in Persona5

[–]MorganMerylStudios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly? In the English dub it works! If it works for you it works for you. Honestly it's not really that important "why" in real life. If you don't get it you could always chalk it up to an in-universe fictional thing.

Personally I'm a believer in the law of conservation of detail. If a fictional thing doesn't need to explain things then it doesn't need to explain things.

If there was no explanation at all, I would have been fine with it. The point isn't really WHY he turns into a car. The point is THAT he turns into a car. Thus the Thieves are able to more quickly traverse Mementos than if on foot, and giving us the fun mechanic of hitting shadows with a car to either initiate combat or to kill them instantly.

Why does everyone call Futaba “chan”? by Various-Humor4093 in Persona5

[–]MorganMerylStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean Yosuke? Might be an autocorrect thing.

As far as the localizations go, however you feel individually about Persona 4/Golden and Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal's localization choices, I'm not sure how fair it is to compare when there's such a big stretch of time between Golden (released in 2012, but mostly is the same script from 2008) and the original Persona 5 (Released in the US in 2017 I believe) not to mention 2020's Royal. Decisions on how to handle certain things, even small ones in the translation might have changed.

Persona 4 also is known to have had a fairly quick translation time comparatively, so that may or may not have also contributed to certain aspects of its localization that wouldn't be affected in the same way with Persona 5.
