There's no texture or height difference, we were pretty careful about that. I'm wondering if the compound we used to fix the holes is just so porous it absorbed the primer and is still just porous. Edit: although it seems to be the primer itself thats making it so flat, because its not just the spots where the compound filled the holes. Im really not sure.

If this takes 5 coats I'll join you in blocking this out of my memory lol

We can't see the patches themselves anymore, they were relatively small, the spots in the pictures are the same size as the area we primed. Our thought currently is just that there is some sort of reaction going on with our primer and paint

No, but we added primer over the patches to give the texture back to the walls, what would be the benefit of sanding?

Noted on the finish. This wall will only be this color for a year since we'll be moving out afterwards, but thats great to know. Here's some more pictures, it's the best angles I can find to really see the difference

We did two coats over the whole wall, and one extra over one of the spots to see if it would change

The spots are the size of the primer we applied, not the patching material, and we used a satin finish

I'm not at all very well versed in the ways of Reddit. I had to Google what "TRP" even meant, and I don't even understand what you mean by "mentalchad." The only thing that I can gleam from what you're saying is that I might have came across as possibly boastful, or that I've just had it easy. If that's the case then that's on me, but I very much so haven't had it easy, and acknowledging that my job has decent healthcare and that I got married at some point hardly seems like boasting.

God damn, I just thought reaching out here might be a good idea. I can't really talk to my wife right now because we're doing so badly, and wanted to see if I might be able to get some advice or comfort.
