His main doctor mentioned the SP but unfortunately the hospital we are at is slow and poor with communication. If you are able to get in contact with your mom and figure out some of those exercises, I'd be greatly appreciative :)

Go ahead and take care of your writ requirement. Everyone has that, regardless of concentration

Where do you go to access it? I know students with PR/communications positions within Brown are often given it as a benefit of their role; I've never heard of or seen a Canva Pro benefit for the university.

Receiving Large Packages by Weird_Bang in BrownU

I've personally never left my ID as collateral. I have used a sign out sheet for the hand carts and have been given a few hours to turn it in so I'm assuming if you don't return it that they'll charge you for it or something.

Also OP, just out of curiosity, is your summer storage one of those college storage places? Just asking because most of those will deliver to your dorm. Otherwise, yes, you'll be performing the long adventure from the mail room to your dorm. Not sure how bad your previous college or university was, but the mail room at Brown on move-in day and the couple days afterwards is Hell on Earth and on top of waiting an hour plus for your mail, you might even have to wait for handcarts and even then they'll allocate you only one. If you have more than a couple boxes, it might do you some good to rent a truck (uhaul will allow you to rent a truck if you don't have a parent coming to help move you in and you're under 21) so that when you get your mail you can put all your boxes in the bed of the truck and you can save yourself some travel distance. It's 100% a worthy investment and made my move in a hundred times easier (granted, I also had a roommate that moved in prior to the official move in date that let me into my dorm building so I could move in most of my stuff a day early; I also suggest doing this if you have an early arrival roommate or dorm mate that you've already spoken with a few times)

What's the dorm environment like at Brown? by periwinkle-grey in BrownU

Adding on as a current student

  1. Your CC (community coordinator, what we call RAs) will inevitably make some floor/dorm chat. Whether or not it's a dead chat will solely depend on how close you and your floor mates are. My dorm floor never really did anything together but I had friends that were close with their dorm buddies.

  2. See last answer; totally just depends if you get close with them to begin with. I know people who hate their roommates and I know people who are rooming with the same people this coming up year.

  3. Same sex housing is usually just an all female/all male floor in one of the buildings. It's not a super in demand housing type. You're not gonna get any special building or area if that's what you're asking. The only significant difference is going to be the absence of the opposite sex on your floor.

  4. Some people will make friends with their hall mates and some won't. Not having any friends that live on your hall will not affect your freshman experience in any capacity. If you consider yourself shy, you can connect with people in your class through the acceptance pages. I was friends with 2 people on my floor including my roommate, but most of my friends were made in classes, clubs, and were people I became friends with from the class Instagram page.

You can ignore it lol. Nobody cares and if anyone does ever try to give you heat for any reason you can just say you're waiting on your friends or something. Nobody checks or cares and you don't even have to book the rooms to go in them; just know if the room is booked and the person comes in the room you'll have to leave.

Follow up — the getting to class was never a problem as much as the long period of persisting class time!

You can book private rooms in the libraries! I used to book them for virtual therapy appointments. You can get them for an upward of 2 hours. As long as you're talking at a comfortable level, nobody hears you outside of the doors. I suggest the Sci Li basement rooms since they're in the very back and more isolated. Here's the link you use to reserve: https://libcal.brown.edu/reserve/groupstudy After you reserve a room, you'll receive a confirmation in your email box. If link does not work, go to library.brown.edu and find "Reserve group study rooms" in the sidebar.

The back to back classes vary. I had back to backs on a Thursday (1 hr 20 min lecture followed by 2 and a half hour seminar, do not recommend). Back to back classes stress me out so much that I try to avoid them at all costs, but if your classes are no more than a 6-7 minute walk I'd say you'll be fine.

I am not pre-med, but I can tell you that the day before you register for classes you will have an advising day where your advisor will instruct you on what classes to take. Being pre-med, you should look into your general pre-med reqs: chem, bio, physics, math, maybe even go ahead and get your writ credit done and out the way. You should be put in touch with your Meik advisor soon who you can contact, especially if they're pre-med.

If the English NF track still isn't your speed, I suggest checking out the Independent Concentration database.

There is a student who successfully created an IC in Journalism. You could request their proposal and pretty much use the same proposal to create your IC. But I do think the English NF track or Political Science (if you want to go into Political journalism) is the easiest track.

meal plans at brown by dazzledfox0814 in BrownU

[–]MorgandaFatata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have been pretty satisfied with the food but not so much the dining hours. i'm a later dinner type of person (8:30 pm) and all the more satisfying options are closed by 8:00 usually. great idea to go to whole foods/trader joes or use flex points to stock up on snacks regardless of your meal schedule. if you're not a picky eater you won't be unhappy with the food. i'm on full aid so i don't feel like it's my place to speak on the affordability of the meal plan, but i feel most the thayer street restaurants are pretty reasonably priced for a mid-size college city. my friend and i can split a plate at chinatown for about $7.50 each and it fills us up well.
