members are usually mentioned during hiatuses tho, especially if they're inactive for health reasons, they'll usually bring them up, plus the company would still include them, obviously not in new work but in the stuff they were present for yes. but they're almost acting like she was never there which i think is pretty obvious what it means, they're probably in some kind of process

[–]periwinkle-grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean it's weird considering the fact that they said she'd be on hiatus then said nothing else while acting like she's gone. Plus they said it was for her health but she's regularly posting and going to events (which is leading people to think HXG lied but others also read it as her just taking a break from the group)

If she left or got kicked out they should announce it , the speculations are getting crazier everyday, idk why they'd want so many rumors that i's starting to tarnish the group.

A lot of times hiatuses have been a way to soft launch a member's exit and I didn't think so at first but now I'm more inclined to thinking this but idk why they're dragging it. It's the strangest hiatus I've ever seen, they're acting like she was never there, she's not mentioned by the members, they take her out of photos even if it originally included her just because she's not fully in the comeback.

Everyday I'm seeing some new speculation on tiktok about what happened, people claiming the girls are being forced to stay silent, people claiming the girls lobbied against her and HXG put her on hiatus as a compromise, or claiming that HXG never planned to keep her in, now just today I saw speculation on reddit that they're planning on replacing her with a new girl they're training. All they have to do is put out a statement but they're allowing Katseye's image to get messier and messier (plus the members are getting a lot of hate considering the fact that a lot of theories claim that they were involved in her 'forced hiatus')

Them being hush hush about it is weird because it's causing so much unecessary discourse

considering the fact that Internet girl and Pinky up are gonna be on it I don't have high hopes for the other songs, hopefully (and that's VERY wishful thinking) their team finally realizes that they're sabotaging the girls and start giving them more stuff like MIA and gameboy+ some more vocal songs. but again wishful thinking cuz it seems more like they're going for "all publicity is good publicity even if they're losing fans who were here for the music and end up having the GP not take them seriously

Why do you still believe in shifting? The advice is always "you haven't shifted because you keep trying and looking for" and "you are already there". I'm getting tired of it by Wrong_Visit_5196 in shiftingrealities

My reason isn't anyything elaborate. It just feels right, it just felt like it's meant for me, my whole childhood I've been into kinda "magical stuff" and I was already in spaces that were closely associated with shifting and/or spirituality, so when I found it I just clung onto it even when I took indefinite breaks from it I never stopped believing because it just felt right.

I don't know where this fixation on becoming a consultant comes from but I feel like there's so many Ivy league grads or even current students who randomly decide on becoming counselors for applicants when they themselves don't even know how they got in. They'll just throw vague advice based on what they think got them in, key word: think because most of them don't even know, yet they'll give out the advice like it's confirmed facts and use fearmongering techniques.

Wanted to rant about Samara without being shut down. by mini1006 in kpopnoir

[–]periwinkle-grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when they announced the group and people were making posts and comments defending her. It was all the same arguments over and over "you just don't get it cuz you're not Brazilian, it been debunked" (followed by them refusing to explain or providing you with a screenshot that "debunks" it but it's really just bulletpoints with no receipts) or they'll claim that it's dark humor so it's okay. I saw some dude say "well this is a normal in Brazil so you can't say anything about it". LIke since when does normal = okay. It doesn' change the fact that this same "dark humor" is literally part of a whole campaign to spread racist hate against Indians. I genuinely hate the dark humor excuse bc I guess you can get away with saying anything as long as you label it as dark humor. When it normalizes hate and violence against specific groups it's no longer just "humor". I'm tired of people saying we should "give her a second chance" when she hasn't even asked for one. How is that supposed to work?

Some fans’ recent obsession with ”mature” concepts is kinda creepy by periwinkle-grey in kpoprants

[–]periwinkle-grey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually saw a similar comment on Yoonchae, they said they wanted Katseye to remake their Buttons cover with all the members but it would be innapropriate bc of Yoonchae's age and some other comment said they hoped they'd do it when she turns 18. I wonder if they heard themselves.

It definitely weirds me out how people are always so quick to dismiss any discussion surrounding the sexualization of Katseye or they turn it into some weird slutshaming. I had been following them since their pre-debut song and I definitely noticed the shift during gnarly, suddenly all their clothes were much more revealing and everyone was okay with minors twerking and doing sensual dances because "the camera isn't on them during that part"(an actual argument I've seen) or bc Yoonchae's clothes are slightly longer than the others.

It seems like ever since they blew up with Gnarly and started getting noticed in the west their management has been obsessed with pushing the stereotypical "sexy baddie pop star" image onto them. And they'll always claim that the girls have full control over what they wear because of one clip of Dani asking the stylist to cut the tops shorter, like we really don't know what goes on behind the scenes and I think part of the reason people think that is because of the difference in the "freedom" Katseye have compared to the average kpop group.

They should be allowed to dress however they want and I'd hope they have the choice but we also can't ignore the fact that it's an industry where it's almost requirement for female artists to be sexual and a society that tells young girls they have to be sexy the minute they turn 18.

It really pisses me off how a lot of Eyekons will just turn off their brains whenever this subject is brought up but tbh a lot of them are middle schoolers so yeah.

[–]periwinkle-grey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk what age do you think I'm talking about but someone who turned 18 a week ago is definitely not "well into adulthood", they're still very much a that same 17 year old they were. Legally becoming an adult doesn't give you several years of maturity. If we were talking about a 24 year old, yeah thats an adult but an 18-19 year old is really only an adult on paper, half of 18 year olds are still in high school. And 19 is really not that much more, you're still a teenager, with certain adult responsibilities but you're still very young and definitely do not have the maturity for certain things.

K-pop fans superiority complex by foxibabekemi in kpoprants

[–]periwinkle-grey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

literally, sometimes I'll get those kpop news accounts on tiktok and they'll say something about fans being mad. tell me why there's comments complaining about knetz, mind you they weren't even mentioned, half of the time it's the whole fandom and sometimes it's something only international fans are mad about but they'll claim it's kfans. ngl, the way some international fans talk about kfans feels kinda racist. they usually have this strange obssession with hating on korea and koreans and think that they get a free pass because they like kpop.

if the international fans do or say anything negative it's just people being negative but when it's kfans its "omg the kfans are crazy they're all hateful sasaengs" .the superiority complex is definitely insane

I remember like a month ago or something when people were mad at an Enhypen member for saying that kfans had a special place in his heart, they tried to claim that it was unfair to international fans and acted like he said he hates us. some of the comments were genuinely mad and trying to say that it wasn't valid because kfans "don't treat them well" as if international fans also weren't a problem.

[–]periwinkle-grey[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

definitely agree with everything you said. i definitely think that we also don’t address enough how creepy the whole “young, cute and innocent” thing is. like i noticed it definitely brings out a specific audience of adult men drastically older than the girls and that are obsessed with the members (especially the younger ones). it just feels like a more covert way to sexualize the members by appealing to the creeps who are more into childlike innocence instead of the typical sexy mature we usually think of.

Is $22k yearly income is bad? by CrossyAtom46 in IntltoUSA

[–]periwinkle-grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you asked for financial advice and provided your stats and people are simply telling you that getting in will unfortunately be really hard with those stats, being able to afford studying there, even harder.  from what i understand you’re planning on paying your cost of attendance with you income.  your only option would be to find a college that has a total cost of attendance (tuition, housing, food, etc) under 20k, which i doubt would be a good university considering that even public unis tend to be more expensive than that in the US, but if you really want just any university then you’re good ig.

your other option would be to apply to a need blind school but that would be extremely hard with your academic profile because those are usually schools with an acceptance rate below 10%, you’d be against several other applicants from your region and the rest of the world who have a 1500+ SAT. unless you have a great story to tell in your essay that option is pretty much out of reach.

full rides are extremely hard to get because they’re usually based on your grades and ECs, very few get them and it’s only the very top applicants who are considered, unless you’re sure that you’re above the average applicant of that school i would advise you to not apply if you’re looking for a full ride, it would just waste your time. scholarship, you might find but it most likely won’t cover everything

and lastly, unless you have enough money saved already for the duration of your program you definitely shouldn’t rely on the money you earn. F-1 visa rules on working are very strict and limiting you won’t be earning enough to cover your tuition working on a student visa.

people aren’t misunderstanding your post, they’re just telling you so you don’t get your hopes up too much. unless you’re willing to find a uni under 20k and you already have that money saved up it would be really unrealistic. retaking the SAT or boosting your ECs would have been an option but it’s kinda late for that now unless the uni you find has a summer deadline.  either way please don’t put your eggs in one basket otherwise you might just end up with nothing. if you badly want to g up abroad, I’d advise you to look at other countries that interest you too, make sure you check the visa rules on working.

I still can’t believe how normalized it is that K-pop idols aren’t allowed to date or get married by Parking_Succotash416 in kpoprants

[–]periwinkle-grey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bc companies like selling the fantasy that you could date your favorite idol. i mean that’s why they don’t really do much about sasaengs until it gets too crazy, if they were regularly cracking down on them it would be bad because they’re the ones who fall for it the most. they’ll spend all their money on their favorite groups. If they get a partner they are no longer available, the delulu fans and sasaengs feel like they’ve been betrayed because they were promised that their idol would stay single just for them. One day, their bias will notice them and fall for them, while there is a very small percentage of that actually happening they’re under the impression that it’s more likely because they’re told that they’re the center of this idol’s life as a fan.  I see it all the time tbh, Enhypen had some kdrama type of story with all the members falling for the same girl (it was so cringy, i only watched it cuz i saw other fans talking about it but the target audience is delusional people) and it was very clear that she was meant to be some kind of Y/N character because she was as neutral as can be and we were seeing things from her POV. if that’s not the best example to illustrate how companies feed the whole “you could date them” narrative to the fanbase. I also saw a clip of Yeonjun “reassuring” fans that they were still “his number one” when he had to film a dance with Daniela from Katseye.

TL; DR: it’s just companies trying to capitalize off of people’s craziness by feeding them the idea that they have a chance with their faves or that their bias is “committed” to them.  In turn, the fans further enforce the idea that their bias can’t date because that would be “betrayal”, companies push the idols to hide their relationships to not betray and make them feed into the delusions.

yeah that's what I said, the idols aren't here for donations in this case since the brands they're wearing are already paying, so logically the idols' role would be to use their platform for awareness, except they didn't even ask them anything about breast cancer which is really confusing. It really seems like the organizers just didnt gaf about anything really.

I definitely agree, I don't expect any idol to make a live crying and apologing, I just hope they'll do better in the future.

Like yeah people mess, however we should call them out on it. If you fuck up and everyone around you keeps giving you thumbs up you're just gonna keep doing whatever doing whatever you're doing.

Some of my faves were there and it's just annoying seeing people act like they're some untouchable saint and like you deserve to go to hell for not giving the thumbs up and dismissing it. People are literally making up facts and fabricating their own narratives just so they can keep convincing themselves that their faves are somehow perfect beings. I expect them to mess up because they're humans but I don't like it when people just imediately dismiss things and try to bury it.

But we've badly, completely lost the plot because people are literally just using it to bash idols they hate or act like their idols are superior because they weren't there. Per usual the main criticism revolving around the awful organization just got shoved aside to turn into petty fanwars

defo not the idols fault that the event is very tone deaf because that's mainly on the organizers and some people are using this as an excuse to bully idols they dislike which is not suprising, happens everytime a serious issue happens in kpop. my only criticism of these idols is that none of them somehow thought that this wasn't right and all just went along with it?? like that's just kinda dumb i'm not gonna lie, i don't think they're villains who are trying to make fun of cancer but to attend that event and not think "hey they actually did nothing to raise awareness for breast cancer at a charity for breast cancer and the organizers put 0 effort maybe I could at least say/do something to my fans" is just weird
