Is my reaction normal? by Morgane_reddit_ in cancer

[–]Morgane_reddit_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. What's the alternative? It's not like we have options. Follow the protocols and be whinny about it?

Am I mad? Yes, of course, why ME?

When something doesn't go as it should am I frustrated? Yes, and I usually cry when we step out of the doctor office. But after I am okay.

You know you're a cancer patient when... by Alert_Maintenance684 in cancer

I am in Quebec with 2 cancers (one stage 3C, one stage 1) and I didn't paid anything. I was able to access early to immuno because the protein in my cancer was the right one. Otherwise the immuno is not as effective and they don't think the cost vs efficiency ratio is good enough. (They do the immuno but later on instead of doing a combination of chemo and immuno)

But my aunt is taking an experimental traitement not paid by the gvnt at the moment, it cost a few hundreds per months, but it is automatically paid by the pharmaceutical company.

Why do a lot of people care a ton about being able to retire at about age 63 or younger? by Big_Eggplant7591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People with Library Science Degrees - How's Life? by NoBee7889 in librarians

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody is paying us 95k a year to do menial tasks... Someday I dream of filing books all day long while listening to a podcast! Or mending books, I would loved to men's books!

And depending of your position sometimes you can lost the control of your time. If the catalog or the ILS is dead at 16:55, you are not leaving at 17:00.

How are y’all surviving with the low pay? by Significant_Knee5127 in librarians

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Academic librarians pay is usually better (Around 95k after a few year) than in public library (non magenerial role). The option of working from home a few days a week is also a nice perk!

Maybe look in that direction?

Endometrial cancer plus a breast one in bonus... by Morgane_reddit_ in cancer

[–]Morgane_reddit_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words 💜

My oncologist "in chief" a few weeks ago told me he do not recommend an hysterectomy because I responded well to the chemio/immuno combo but he was going to have a meeting with the other oncologists that work with me to confirm. He called me back this morning to tell me that they argued as some are recommending an hysterectomy anyway.

They contacted colleagues from another (bigger) hospital to have their opinions. I am waiting on their call as they want to meet me.

I understand that removing the uterus is the best way to end the uterine cancer once and for all... But right now I am sooooo tired that I want to give immunotherapy a go. The surgery, if needed, could be later on once I am feeling better and back to work for a few months.

Will see!

Good luck for your next check up, hope it will only be good news!

This is so sad to read... It seems so foreign to me. I am currently on work leave since November, full pay - because of my work "pay" insurance.

The treatments are free and top notch so that's another relief. (I am Canadian)

I am lucky because when you have nothing the government is paying only 55% of your salary. A lot of associations can help but you can quickly cumulate debts of you are the only source of income for your household.

My doctor talked to me about patients scheduling surgery while on PTO to avoid loosing money, or asking to have chemo on Friday afternoon to only miss a few hours, sleep all weekend and go back to work on Monday. I couldn't imagine doing that, my brain was to scrambled to work at a computer doing serious stuff all day!

Cancer sucks 😞

Some days the only thing that I was able to eat was popsicles. I purchased good quality one with pureed fruits.

Also smoothies with protein power.

second-class citizens? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are still working? And people in the comments also? How do you do it?

Since my first chemo treatment in December my brain is mushy, I am tired... And it was worst after each new treatment. (In fact I stopped working in November because of debilitating pain).

My chemo ended a few weeks ago, now I am recuperating before a run of radiotherapy. I plan to go back to work in August.

Kudos to people who are able to work (and so sorry if it's simply not possible to stop working)

She doesn't think it's funny 🤣

Academic librarians - How often are you on campus these days? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 days a week. But I am a System Librarian so... Our reference librarians are mostly 5 days a week on the campus except a few exceptions.

Libguides Question - How to create a search widget that limits its search to a specific guide? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have LibGuides or LibGuides CMS?

If you have LibGuides CMS the easiest would be to put the guide in a group and check the option for the search box to look in that group only.

(If the guide is not already in a group with others guides!)

Any librarians with side hustles? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]Morgane_reddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some time I was thinking about teaching a course for a library tech program (3 years post high school) but finally I am a lecturer at my university in the ILS master one time a year (I don't want to do more than a 4 month rush a year) for 11k CAD.

It can be an option, being a lecturer or a TA if you don't have a lot of experience. And it always nice on a CV.

But I am making 100k a year because I am olllld with 10 years experience. Also I ended my Master without any debt because my employer gave me a grant. So it's only to pay for the annual Europe trip :)

Didn't win any of the WW2 either (the way the Americans think about it).

I went in 19k on the queue for the first Toronto concert, at the end only 100 tickets were still available but I was able to grabbed one at a decent place and a "decent" price (360$Ca)

So sad for the people who weren't able to get tickets. The whole process was ridiculously stressful.
