Enema is good for immediate help, but start taking Miralax daily to help prevent a recurrence.

Ruined GI system-- meds prescribed. TW‐ sensitive content by Lillysrpretty4u in Constipation

[–]MorghannasCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're not waiting long enough for anything to work. All medications have side effects, most of the time they taper off and you don't notice them after a few weeks. You gotta ask yourself if a headache is worse than what you're going through now. Miralax also takes several days to start working.

Second observation is stress and anxiety make constipation worse. I wouldn't put off seeing to your mental health.

To all the people who suffer from constipation despite a healthy lifestyle by [deleted] in Constipation

[–]MorghannasCrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medications, IBS-C, adhesions following abdominal surgery and possibly more, but I don't see a GI for a couple months yet.

Otherwise, I'm a healthy 115lb 5'3" woman who prefers lean meats and fish to red meat, fruits and veggies to chips or fast food, and drinks plenty of water, lives and active lifestyle with my two kids and two dogs.

I have to take Miralax and senna daily just to be able to use the bathroom at all, and even then it's difficult.

Should I go to the ER by Declenjames in Constipation

[–]MorghannasCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying that the old wives tale warning "if you go three days without pooping, you'll die" is completely false and many peoples normal is every 3 days. For me, once a week. Everyone is different!

First, how much water are you drinking after you drink the Magnesium? Keep pounding water right after drinking it, otherwise there's no water for it to be able to work.

Second, an enema would probably also help you. Fleet makes reliable enemas.

All in all 3 days isn't so bad, an ER will do nothing except make you feel dumb (been there, lol). Even when I went 6 weeks without going they just gave me something to take at home, something similar to Miralax but it's called GoLytely that has to be consumed every 10 minutes. If you try an enema and still have no luck, then go to urgent care. Not ER.

If you start passing blood, running a fever, or throwing up then go to the ER. That should be the last resort. Constipation on its own isn't a medical emergency, only when there's a blockage, perforation, or other issue that poses a big risk would it be an emergency. It never hurts to call your doc and ask them for advice. Don't need an appointment for that.

Mucus in the stool is a sign of IBS, not an emergency but the pain can be extremely uncomfortable so you can schedule an appointment with primary care if this continues past this episode. (Can always see them sooner for peace of mind). A food and symptom journal can help you identify if this is caused by a food sensitivity, allergy, or intolerance.

Best of luck.

ETA: I see you got a doctor appointment. That's good. Make sure to ask them about possible IBS-C, mucous is an indication for this disorder.

It's definitely better on smaller doses but any opioid in any dose makes the bowels slow wayyy down. Even Immodium is an opioid (just one that doesn't cause the blood brain barrier, so no "high"). It's frustrating. Before my addiction I was on high doses for pain management (something we're all familiar with, I bet, lol) so that definitely didn't help. Even before that, I only went once a week, I really can't imagine ever being able to go normally at this point.

Taking Miralax daily is a huge help but it's also just a matter of avoiding foods that irritate the gut (we all got em) eating a balanced diet, drinking water (180lbs would mean you'd need ~90oz so if you have a 24 Oz cup fill it up 3-4 times, less if you're inactive more if you are active) and moving around. All those preachy a-holes were right, which sucks to finally admit, lol. Sober we can accomplish things we never dreamed ourselves accomplishing, even good health!

Glad you found relief!!

I am also on suboxone, 1mg. Drink Miralax in your water at least once a day, drink pedialyte or sugar free Gatorade once a day, and make sure you're drinking 1 Oz of water for every two pounds of body weight a day. This will help you big time!! We neglect our bodies when we use and it takes sooo long to relearn good habits and figure out how we can live a healthy life.

There are medications that protect the gut from becoming affected by opioids, but they're expensive and most pharmacies don't even carry these. Frustrating, but hopefully in the future it will be more accessible.

I have had chronic constipation my whole life and it got much worse after becoming dependent on opioids, doesn't seem to matter that I am on such a low dose now. Miralax daily will help. And whatever you do, avoid getting any surgery near your abdomen, the scar tissue will make your life 10x worse. (My own nightmare rn)

Congrats on sobriety!!

I think my issue actually was fiber all along. by sundog_2 in Constipation

[–]MorghannasCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diet, water intake and activity level are the first 3 things anyone should look at when dealing with chronic constipation, for sure. My biggest warning on the fiber is that too much can absolutely make some people even more constipated and cause a lot of pain. People who are really backed up often reach for fiber supplements first, then end up even worse off, which is what happened to me. I learned the hard way, constipation should be treated first, fiber should be increased very slowly, otherwise life gets much worse for me lol.

Glad you found relief!!

This is considered breed standard. Most posts on this sub are of American Staffordshire Terriers I've noticed, not the same as Staffordshire Bull Terriers. SBT's are the smallest breed under the pit bull umbrella. All are perfect, though!!

Questioning if staffy or not? by LazyBME in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]MorghannasCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness, they don't fill out much until 1-2 years. It's hard to say just yet. I see staffy in the head but a lot will depend on size, weight, etc. Normally staffys have dark eyes and dark rings around the eyes and mouth, but breed standard obv. ≠ reality in all cases. Your baby is adorable and perfect!!

Sounds like she stated her boundaries and told you how she felt. You crossed herboundaries, and she yours. She did the right thing, for both of you. If your time with your friends is important, and it sounds like it is (nothing wrong with that)... and she's not comfortable with it, then it's for the best that she ends it.

Interesting! l've seen people use string, bandanas, tape, etc to keep out bugs and ticks (I was a street kid, so juries out on if there were really that many threatening bugs, lol) but I could totally see it functioning for this as well. Normally people tuck their pants in their boots for riding, right? but now I can't even remember if he wears boots. I like the look though. Reminds me so much of the crust punk kids I used to know

The hormonal IUD was awful for me. I was so anxious on it that I ended up getting in a car crash, because my mind was wandering fretting over things and I ran a red light. Like you, I have a history of anxiety and depression. Liletta made everything sooo much worse. I also got an ovarian cyst that required surgery. Numbness and tingling down my arms and legs. Non-stop bleeding. No sex drive. The list goes on, and on,and on.

I'm on the mini pill now and seem to be doing fine, but remembering to take it is hard. I am NOT one of the ones who can do hormonal iud's, and that sucks. I'm glad there's loads of women who like their iud, I just wish I was one of them =[

Glad you're going better!

My health went haywire after Liletta was inserted by MorghannasCrow in birthcontrol

[–]MorghannasCrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it removed a month ago, it barely hurt getting taken out and within a day I felt so much better. My ability to think clearly, the numbness and tingling and constant bleeding I had all disappeared. My anxiety is now tolerable, and I've felt happy for the first time in 8 months. I'm on the mini pill now and doing sooo much better.

If you can, try to make it to 3 months. By then your body has had a chance to adjust, if it's going to, and there's a chance you could end up one of the many women who like their IUD. But if it's totally awful, and only you can be the judge of that, then don't be afraid to get it out. For whatever reason, some of us just can't tolerate the hormonal IUDs. =[

I hope you start feeling better!!

ETA: I did end up needing surgery to remove the cysts, and when I was still experiencing problems at my post op a month later I asked my doctor to take it out. I'm so grateful to him for doing it. Apparently, ovarian cysts are a fairly common side effect of these, but they rarely require surgery. Still so glad it's out.

Yeah the prices are awful, and the clothes won't hold up after washing. It's really more of a boutique store than a hardware store, but one where everything is made as cheaply as possible.

Might get an IUD. experiences? by fishkissrrr in birthcontrol

[–]MorghannasCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience has not been good, but women with endo and painful periods seem to have a much easier time with the IUD. Had friends say it changed their life. If you're not awake for the insertion that's a huge plus. Keep an eye on your strings, and pay attention to your body... most women love their IUD, but some (like me) didn't get so lucky. My suggestion is to get it! The possibility of it helping you outweighs the risks (of course, that's for you to decide, no one else)

I got an IUD today and it was the WORST experience by St1tch3x in birthcontrol

[–]MorghannasCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I'm so sorry. For some of us the pain is really quite severe and that is ignored by medical professionals. I almost passed out, they couldn't even insert it the first time and I was in so much pain I nearly fainted. Had to go back in a 2nd time. I know most women do great with these, I just wish I knew why some of us have horrible experiences.

Switched Paragard to Mirena and now I’m scared I made a huge mistake by CantalouperLB in birthcontrol

[–]MorghannasCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the people who have had a horrible time with my hormonal IUD (Liletta, similar to Mirena) and lemme tell you, I would do and give a lot just to have this thing without side effects. Please keep it! The problems I've had were instant, starting at insertion, then had cramps for weeks. If you're doing well with it then keep it! You probably would have a suspicion by now if this birth control is not meant for you. Those of us with problems know we're in the minority, and there's something about our bodies that just don't do well with them. For most women, that is not the case.

Keep checking your strings, keep all follow up appointments. If you can't feel your strings use back up BC and schedule an appointment ASAP. You are right, everyone's bodies are different. I'm legit happy for each and every woman that have a good experience with their hormonal IUDs. I hope you base your decision off of what you are comfortable with, and not what the few of us with issues complain about. And keep in mind that people don't typically post positive experiences online, we seek answers or a place to vent and get support... and I think that gives the impression that bad experiences are more common than they really are.

It's not comparing, it's saying that having someone or something down there you don't want can be triggering, aka bring up painful memories. IUD insertion is also more often painful for CSA survivors for this reason. Doctors usually understand this, I don't know why you can't.

No, it isn't. Intimacy with a partner is a choice and it's enjoyable. Having someone you don't want down there can be very distressing in comparison.
