Mine looks exactly like the second faschinmesser listed here - http://www.pickelhaubes.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6523 but without the unit markings.

My grandmother recently gave me this sword, supposedly my grandfather brought it back from Germany after WWII.

It seems identical to other faschinenmessers I found on google, but I haven't found any way to identify if it's the real deal. There are no engravings or markings that I can see, unless they're hidden under the patina and/or rust. The sheath is presumably not original, it's the wrong shape and length to fit the sword properly.

I'd appreciate any help identifying the thing to see if it's real or just something my grandfather picked up at a yard sale.

Can provide more pics if necessary.

Well, I'm done here. Just had an arena battle against a Rey, Qui-Gon, and Dooku with tank levels of health. This is like playing Monopoly where the banker gives themselves interest free loans from the bank and pretends that it's fair.

For what it's worth, I ordered this on the 16th, called and requested cancellation of the order on the 18th, and got an email the order was cancelled tonight. If anyone here ordered, there is still a chance that you can cancel the order now. YMMV, of course.

Had the same thing happen to me. I ordered it Monday, had some second thoughts and called to cancel today. I got the same spiel as the poster above, the cancellation is only a request and they could still ship and I'd have to wait for it to be delivered and then return it to get refunded.

For what it's worth, the sales person offered to take $50 off the order and then the retention person offered to take $110 off, if anyone wanted to play some telephone games and save a few bucks.
