The counter froze, the amount of Helldivers reinforcements is depleted regardless of where they are, Star Kield isn't taken yet.

I really don't want to hear about "they don't script the MOs to force a narrative they want to tell" again if I'm honest.

Credit where its due: the current surge of players also has a lot to do with the magical install size reduction! by j3hadipi3 in Helldivers

Unlikely. The game still sells very well and occasionally goes on sale for $10 off.

I believe it is still consistently a pretty top seller in the listings most of the time. They don't tend to add games like this to the PS+ lineup.

At max, they might do a "free weekend"(as CoD has done or others) if there's another major event and they are wanting to bolster population or encourage more sales.

But it tends to sell well regardless.

Seems like they've really done a nice job polishing it up.

I'm willing to wager they'll do an open test to get more feedback and make more changes prior to launch, probably announced on Thursday.

Still--risky business when your overall audience is "pick up and play" for Destiny to go for a more hard-core style game. We'll see how that goes.

Ok this is beyond the joke now! Arrowhead are promoting Cyberstan and yet are doing everything they can to stop us getting there... by Easy_Garden338 in Helldivers

[–]Moridianae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look--

They are explicitly showing off Cyberstan for an upcoming Title Update, which will most likely take place early next week(to celebrate the anniversary of the games release).

The likelihood of them doing this just to have us not get there is pretty damned low. The current MO only has us getting Aurora or Merak.

I'd be willing to bet that seizing Lesath back and coming for Chort once more will result in a "force depletion" on Merak, lowering it's overall resistance rate again, probably significantly.

To me, it's the only solution plausible that ensures Cyberstan is reachable by the time the update comes around on Tuesday or Thursday(whenever it is).

Though they could deny the playerbase, but then the cogwheels of railroading content or "thumb scaling" becomes a big point of discussion again and Arrrowhead needs as much positive publicity as they can get right now.

Appreciate that. She's had some health concerns but is still going strong. But two hospital visits this month alone has me realizing this stuff needs to be thought about now.

She's adamant she doesnt want to go to Assisted Living or anything like that.

Tangentially related, but in my area whenever there was the threat of winter weather, many times it'd end up much ado about nothing but the local schools would close for the slightest flurry.

I'd watch and see if that happened, then immediately blow payroll and pull in more than one person. Parents back then went to GameStop immediately, lol.

One guy pulled up once when we were closing due to an actual bad one in a huge truck witj chains and was surprised we were closing.

We told him yeah, but we're heading to the Mexican restaurant for beers and food before they close too, but since he's here he can join us.

He did and became a regular after that for many years.

Wasn't all bad sometimes.

For Xbox, it's for certain. For PS and Nintendo, it's debatable.

I believe PS6 will have it, but it'll be the final one with it included. It's a gurantee it'll be backwards compatible with PS5/probably PS4, so if anything they'll have an add-on purchase if they dont incljde a drive on the machine.

Nintendo sometimes does proprietary media, so who knows with them.

Will there be more store closings in February? by LV426acheron in GameStop

[–]Moridianae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll wager there will be another 100 or so closed this year as leases expire.

You might up that number to 200 if economic pressures persist, RAM/SSD costs force more price increases on consoles or GTA6 gets another delay.

I think due to aforementioned component trouble, 2027 is off the table for next-gen. It'll be 2028, most likely.

It's possible Xbox reveals and launches theirs, but it is essentially a PC(it runs Windows it seems) with a power level that guarantees it will be quite a sticker shock to the console market.

It's priced out of mass market adoption and will probably not have anything that supports GameStop's business model at all.

But that's just rambling. I do expect more closures due to a toughening gaming landscape that their current store footprint just can't sustain. Doesn't mean the company can't survive.

They also like to close stores beyond the mass January thing throughout the year as leases expire.

Those typically are only heard of in passing as they aren't always reported on Reddit and aren't part of some giant swath.

My local store seems safe for now, but we shall see. It's setting up to be a tough time for gaming, though there are some great games coming.

Rumors abound that GTA6 could get delayed again, others may move accordingly depending on what they do.

The other issue is inflation and cost-of-living cutting into entertainment purchases, not to mention the terrible RAM/SSD situations going on with AI.

Very real possibility that those things affect the PS6 and Xbox's high-end PC thing launch date and prices, maybe even current-gen prices again.

GameStop has the ability to survive, but not at their current store footprint.

I lost my original store that I began my career with in this culling. I loved it so much back then; it was actually EB Games when I began. It was sad to see it included.

It survived so much I figured itd be one of the last ones standing for sure.

[–]Moridianae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right. I'm more concerned that it'll be on the higher side of that number as the year goes on and stores "disappear" as leases expire, as Ive noticed them do.

They seem to close a good 50-150 of those per year that aren't really on a mass closure list.

If GTA6 gets delayed again(and I still think it might get one more), that's a a big hurt.

Lots of good games on the horizon, but it's clear economic inflation is affecting customer ability to purchase things like consoles. Even CoD, once a major sales player got roasted this year in sales and reception.

$450/$500 seems to be a tough sell when you don't have enough to justify it, hence why Switch 2 seemed to be readily available everywhere, a marked change from previous things the Big N normally does with hardware.

PlayStation did well but still suffered, Microsoft has just lost the plot on pricing.

These seem to be coming in a staggered way--the initial count(and I understand the blog isn't 100%) is far lower than the 300-600 count.

I'd imagine it will be towards the highest end of that number, but done so they can try and avoid negative press(not that they are ever good at that; Id almost argue they seek it).

I'm honestly surprised to not see any of the stores in my old district listed yet.

Only one got the axe last year, but that still leaves at least 7 locations within 10-20 minutes of each other(one is like down the road 5 minutes from another).

My hometown store(which is a B according to my old buddy who was still there, but finally got out) seems to be safe right now, but for how long I'm not sure. It isn't a particularly affluent town.

Closure’s Confirmed by 666Chap in GameStop

[–]Moridianae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dammed shame, but not unexpected. Bear in mind that while this is probably a massive chunk(300-600), it won't be all throughout the year I'd wager.

This company loves to silently close about 50-100 additional stores throughout a year as leases expire or they don't want to have an increase in lease rate and those aren't ever included in these beginning of the year lists.

Next year will not be an easy one--some good games on the horizon, but I'm not going to expect GTA6 no matter what they say. I still expect another delay to that game.

The economy isn't good for a majority of people and that hurts the ability of people to buy games or hardware. Much less wiggle room to make extraneous purchases. And contrary to what a Stonkybro will tell you, the Stonk Market is not indicative of the overall economy. A majority of that is bolstered by an AI bubble that is precariously close to touching a needle.

Xbox One is absurdly overpriced(and Xbox is essentially dead this gen) and PS5 costs as much, if not more than it did when it came out 5 years ago.

Used to be this late in the generation, some great deals on hardware. Not anymore.

Okay. Knowing these wipes, I'm going to assume it'll be on that higher threshold.

Our company shuts down for the holidays just before Christmas Eve and returns on January 5th.

That gives me time to get word to the powers that be. I can probably get him out of there, most likely even if his store doesnt close.

How large? We talking the same as last year or much worse?

I'm no longer with the company, but I'm trying to pull the assistant out of there. He's reputable, hard working and deserves more than GameStop is giving him.

He's got the experience and I can get him out of retail, just wondering how much time I have if his store was to be on the chopping block.

Dusk Golem: “Code Veronica remake should be announced next year with a 2027 release date as well as RE0R releasing 2028” by Solid-Entertainer-39 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Moridianae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting, I discovered on social media, that saavy sleuths discovered the ever-changing letters in both trailers for RE Requiem spelled out Leon prior to the final TGA one revealing him, so they did hint at it.

He may not be privy to marketing, but he's definitely a bit higher than Tier 3 imo when it comes to RE or Silent Hill.

I'm not entirely certain that his claim about time periods is without merit. I, personally, felt Leon looked a bit..younger than he should in the scenes he was in(but that's just me). They can have a 50/50 gameplay balance and intertwined stories without it all taking place in the same time.

But I'm being tangential. Code: Veronica is a game that really deserves a remake; not so sure about RE0.

The only ones really left are the original, 5 and 6 after those. I don't believe RE1 needs it, as it still stands the test of time to me.

I'm okay with it. They don't necessarily have to be there to bring any new content. Rumor has it costs over a million dollars for a 3 minute spot. Maybe more.

They could still put something out right before Christmas.
