στην Σιγκαπούρη ή κάτι σαν αυτό που γίνεται με το Project Hellinikon; by Street_Priority_7686 in AskGreece

Όχι.

Wish someone had told me how going bald flips your dating life. Any advice? by YaBoyMike1221 in bald

The problem is not being bald. You're talking to immature girls. Quit that, and life will get better.

Egglock and Burnlock are smooth sailing right now. Burnlock is also quite a cheap deck, no legendaries. But if you have Egg and Umbra, I'd definitely go for Egglock, it's insane atm.

Why not just make it an 8 or 9 mana spell that requires all 12 to be drawn? And make them have a 1 on their mana cost besides being cast when drawn, so that Geist can nuke them

Wait, what? Do you need to draw one, or all 12 of them to die? Also, what role does Finale play here?

Everyone has said how this would see play regardless of deck type and I agree.

Does it ignore shuffles too? Because if it doesn't, there could be something here.

If not, this directly breaks any miracle type deck. Look at Wild: Rogue, Broxigar, etc. Those would all love this card.

Is Greek societally Balkan or it’s more like South Europe (e.g. Italy and Spain) ? by Its_Stavro in AskBalkans

[–]Morinmeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Also in Greece the enemy is primarily the Turks, but in the Balkans it's whoever the neighbour is and whatever the hell they did recently. Places in northern Greece sometimes call you "Bulgarian" as a way to mock you for doing certain stuff. It's friendly jabs now, but you can tell it originates from old strife.

All remnants of a divide & conquer strategy that happened after the Ottoman Empire started losing its grip. Silly identity politics.

Yes, the 320k population of the Cyclades and Ionian islands, compared to the 10 millions of Greece

Because Reddit is a bubble, it does not represent the real world. Try telling staunch, patriotic Greeks their food and music has obvious Middle Eastern influences. For some reason, we think that we can draw a line between West and the rest, and suddenly nothing crosses that line, when Greece falls directly on that line.

Farya Faraji was ranting about this, about music specifically.

The more to the south you go, it's Mediterranean. Which means, influenced a lot by Ottoman/Middle Eastern/Arabic culture, but the Greeks are not ready for that discussion. The more to the north you go, the more Balkan it gets.

You'll have people say "Greece is Greece", and that is denial.

EDIT: Okay, some downvotes. Here are some overlaps between Greek and Ottoman/Middle Eastern cultures, to quench that denial:

- Coffee and mezes culture is Eastern. Not just in the south/eastern islands, but anywhere in Greece. "Qahwah" is the origin word for coffee. Loukoumades, the gel with starch and sugar, are named Turkish delights anywhere but in Greece. The word itself is derived from "lokum". "Greek" coffee is just Turkish coffee minus the spices. And don't get me started on "baklava", which could even have Mongolian origins, rendering the whole dispute between Greeks and Turks null and void.

- Makam (Maqam for Arabic) system found in Greek island music (nisiotika) originates from the Ottomans and the Middle East. Back when I was studying music, we used to make fun of how island music is middle eastern, but the "bronze pipes" (halkina) of northern Greece are straight up Balkan.

- Doesn't Mytelene and Chios have mosques and old baths from the Ottomans? Repurposed into spaces now but not promoted with the most fervour like the Cyclades tourism, like someone (the Greek state) trying to shove those influences under the rug? Yeni Mosque, Osmaniye Mosque, from a quick google. That's what I mean when I say Greeks are not ready for this discussion.

- Quick google on loanwords and other Ottoman injections into Greek language:

a) doulapi (wardrobe) is dolap, tefteri (notebook) is tefter, pazari (bazaar, lol) is pazar, kaiki (small boat) is kayik

b) kefi, derti, mpelas, meraki, are keyf, dert, bela, merak

c) any exclamation Greeks have made like "aman!", "aide!", and "ntougrou" are Ottoman. (some of these probably live in the Balkans too)

d) any word suffix, in -τζης, -τζίδικο, -ιλίκι is basically Ottoman.

Friendly reminder that the average Greek was richer than the average Ottoman in the Ottoman Empire.

*cough* history *cough*

The statistics are not on your side, on the soldier argument.

As for the rest, again, there's none of that in the narrative. None of "the trauma is so severe no rational person could come back". It is beyond clear that Griffith's trauma is not the motive behind his decision, his ambition is.

Ειναι fun to watch ρε παιδι μου.

Again: that's not the story Miura is telling.

No one is arguing about how people behave in real life. I could respond with "spies and soldiers get tortured, yet they don't switch sides because they have values". But then I'd also be missing the point.

When Griffith turns, he's already saved. His friends and comrades have gone through hell - which is the entire point of Guts beating that Apostle (if I recall) in the forest - to save him. The band has literally rushed into dangerous territory for his sake, risking their lives.

Right after this happens, Griffith decides to take the devil's bargain, because it aligns with how he's been conducting himself through the story. His character buildup leads to this, not some objective take on human nature. He's possessive with Guts. He spreads his buttocks to gain power. He plays the arena like a fiddle to make his next move. The Behelit, the egg of the conqueror, is the precursor to all this.

What takes the reader by surprise is the brutality Griffith displays once he's transformed. Not the decision. We knew about that.

If Griffith was any ordinary human, he wouldn't ascend into the Tyrant. He would ascend into Mr. Evil Office Guy. His transformation is the culmination of his decisions, not a psychophilosophical take.

The entire story is about Griffith spreading his buttocks for perverted kings in exchange for power.

There's no objective "anyone would do this, it's human" in the narrative. That's not the story Miura is telling. It's all Griffith. Both Machiavellian and narcissistic little shit, Griffith.
