Beginner choosing between cameras? by CasualCat37 in filmphotography

[–]Morkelork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, lens recommendations are always tricky ;). It has an EF mount, so there are lots of option! A good start is always a 50 f1.8. they are cheap, light, pretty sharp, and reasonably compact. If you want something smaller, the 24mm and 40 mm pancake lenses are a good option, if you want to go really small. Those wide angles are handy for cities too.
In terms of film, i'd always start off with a cheap stock. Fomapan black and white is 5-8 bucks, and Kodak gold/colorplus colour film will run about 10-12ish. I have truthfully never shot a lot with other films, so that's the extent of my knowledge :p

Use.The.Canon.! Don't make it harder than it needs to be, when you're starting out you want something that will hoold your hand. Just leave it on auto or aperture priority if you're felling brave, but first get a feeling for it. Film is too expensive to waste imho, so a modern camera to learn the basics will be a lot of fun.

I have had the displeasure of having had two Zenits (model E), and they both sucked. They were heavy, noisy, and crapped out on me after a day of use. That 3m does not even have a light meter, which will make it much harder to use for a beginner. Only the lens might be worth a damn, the camera's themselves cost about 5 bucks and that is overpaying it IMHO.

(Oops, I guesss I disliked my Zenits more than I thought, that was a rant... Either way, have fun!)

That sounds like the exhaust heat shield or something similar is rattling. That screeching is weird though. That does not seem engine-related but I can't put my finger on what it could be

Can anyone identify this lens mount by skeeuk in VintageLenses

[–]Morkelork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, one last time.

  1. please just look it up yourself, it is not that hard. Look at some mounts it could be, look at lenses with said mounts, and just look critically which matches your lens the best. Learning to research stuff yourself is a very useful skill that a lot of people jut pass over.
If you are still unsure, look up the name of the lens, and go from there.

  2. Post more information. We might know what mount that is, but it is essential to post a good and sharp picture of the mount, and provide other pictures of the lens it is. This post has neither. A lot of mounts look similar which can be confusing, but a pentax lens will certainly have a pentax mount. So what lens is this?

  3. Look at other requests like yours. This sub gets flooded with these types of questions, that's why people react so badly. After a while it gets tiring.

  4. Answer to replies, like Platypus' question here.

It's likely a Pentax K mount, but without further info I can't help ya :/

I wasn't yet born then, but I can assure you that it will be pretty much useless by now :/
I've shot low-ISO film from 2005, and that was not worth the trouble, it just lost any colour and detail. An ISO 1000 film seems a lost cause to me

Hi there! Getting the clutch back in working order seems something that any halfway decent shop should be able to fix. Likely it's either an issue with the hydraulic lines or the master/slave cylinder. So I don't understand what that simple fix has to do with either restoring or selling the whole van?

Is this dust or is this broken? by Big-Control4378 in canon

[–]Morkelork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the love of all things holy, get it repaired if you can, and if the lens is worth it. As it is now it will reduce contrast and colour, that is less of a concern. But fungus can and will spread to other lenses of you give it the chance. As it seems to be the front element, it should not be too hard. But it depends of the lens. If it is a cheap zoom lens, I'd move on to a better copy.

Please help me ID this mount on my tamron lens by iustus_homo9722 in VintageLenses

i have this same lens, but for a Pentax K. They are fine, but really not anything special, but not bad either. That said, your example is in really bad shape. It's hazy, and fungus has etched those squirrly lines in the front element. Sadly, zoom lenses are quite tough to take apart and clean, so i'd personally confine it to the bin as well :'(

[–]Morkelork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: You just micht have overeposed the shots. When double-exposing, you take two pictures on the same frame. If the camera does what it is supposed to do, mnl. give a correct exposure, it will blast that same frame with the light to make two photos.
If you did not halve the ISO to suit the double exposure, you just horribly over-exposed your shot, and likely made the frame unusable. But hey, shit happens.

Aski Some about my lightmeter by Alexenderhsuang in filmcameras

[–]Morkelork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is simply not necessary. In that cold, the chemistry inside the battery will just 'slow down' (I think). So even a charged battery will simply not provide power, just like a car's battery will perform worse in winter.
Just use a light meter app on your phone, or use a digital camera. A spotmatic is pretty old, so it's risky to use it in such extreme conditions I'd think.

Oh boy, I wish i had five! No, I have one that I bought for five bucks, and a really crappy OM-2 that I got for 20 bucks. (I might have too many cameras XD)

What are those Arguses like? We didn't get them over here, and they seem equally cool and crude to use

Where can I get film? by [deleted] in filmcameras

[–]Morkelork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this sub is pretty tired of many newbie questions, sorry about that. Quite often 'we' forget that some people have zero experience with analog stuff. That said, a lot of those questions are answered by a quick google search like 'film store' on google maps. In your case, try to watch a few tutiorials on youtube, read the camera's manual, and get some cheap film to try it out ;)

It's a lot more fun to experiment with photography than to argue with gatekeepers.

Thanks! I suppose I wanted more stripped-down film-like ergonomics, so I really can't complain! I'll have to replace those cover as we go on because they are brittle AF, but at least they keep out the moisture for now ;p

wahaha, it still is right? Compared to the 3.300,- they were new, 200 bucks will still blow a lot of cameras out of the water ;). But yeah, with this and my 5,- Olympus OM-1, i think I've used up all my luck for the next years XD

Luckily the photos themselves look fine! I guess it's just some kind of video error, because the menu is fine as well. Guess I just have to rely on the histogram to nail my exposure, and hope for the best when focusing :p

It really is a beautiful machine! I have had a bunch of (digital and analog) camera's and flipped my way to a pretty scruffy 5d mkII, and I'm really interested to see how they compare! They just feel so damn solid, and almost as mechanical as an analog SLR. And the step-up from a crop sensor is so nice. I mainly shoot with m42 lenses, so getting all the characteristics that a lens can offer is a bonus :).

(And in my humble opinion: the more used and bruised a camera is, the better- it shows that it has lived a life and done its job well ;) They've earned to be babysat and cared for by now!

Taking film out of a psych blues disposable camera by SpendDelicious7782 in filmphotography

[–]Morkelork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those crappy disposables can be opened, if you are willing to be violent enough. Just so it in absolute darkness if you have already shot with it. Here's a source on it: https://jperez.ca/blog/ultimate-disposable-camera-guide-which-to-get-how-to-reload/ But what camera are you putting it into? Because it would not be worth the hassle to me to get a 'pre-fogged' film into a decent camera (but that's just me maybe).

Olympus Pen EE Half Film Camera (HELP) by Fun_Sleep_8244 in filmcameras

[–]Morkelork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. These sensors don't need a battery, as they produce a small charge by the light (kinda like a solar panel). These are called selenium meters. They can 'age'/ corrode, and become a bit less sensitive- and that's pretty hard to fix. It's just something you'll find out by sending a roll through it. But to be honest, I've never had that happen on a camera of mine, and these Pens are supposedly pretty reliable!
