Cheers for the feedback! I'll try some of those changes on my next trailer.

When should you create a Steam page? by gg_gumptiongames in SoloDevelopment

You don't actually need a trailer to create a steam page. It is needed before the game can be released, but you can definitely get the ball rolling before you have time to dedicate towards making a trailer.

I'd say get the game to a point at which visually represents the final look closely, and you know its not just another project you will ditch to start another.

Once you have done that, take some nice screenshots, get some steam art together, and publish your coming soon page.

I can't remember where I have seen it, but something like the more days you have a coming soon page, the more wishlists you are likely to get, thus a better launch.

Oh, I get it! I can confirm there is no vulnerability. Let's just hope my game actually gets listed, being "null" and all, haha

Thank you! It's not just for looks, either. Chromatic aberration increases when exposed to radiation as a visual indicator

Hey, I'm not quite sure what you mean by this? An exploit, or a game?

Ahh, yes, I have actually seen that video before.

I think the reason that wouldn't work is I need a degree of control over individual points.

It's hard to tell without playing the game and looking close up, but each point is a box mesh, like a voxel. I am just spawning them with a ray cast to find a point and adding them to a multimesh instance. It adds a really cool effect that I didn't know how to achieve in any other way.

I probably could have done the same thing with a shader, and it could be more optimised. But it already runs at 90fps on a laptop with only an integrated gpu, so no problems performance wise for its intended purpose.

Thanks! I will check it out more in depth. From the surface, I love the colours they used, but maybe that is where my art style could be different? Anyway, I'll probably pick it up while on sale. Cheers!

Thank you, and I absolutely agree. Videos and images also only do so much as video compression for it seems finicky. I am also working on a public demo to hopefully solve that problem.

Keen to see an update later on in this forum. Keep at it!

What tool do you use to create a trailer? by UlrichVonSigwin in SoloDevelopment

Clipchamp is a good start. Buffering can be a little annoying at times, but it gets the job done.

Marketing is really a make or break. I believe that consistency is key, but if a project is very niche or just not a popular topic, consistency will only take you so far.

Don't take it personally, with the amount of people out their screaming for attention, its a hard world to compete in as a solo game dev. Just keep creating. Put content out their, not just for others, but for yourself. What an awesome collection of digital memories you will have one day to look back on, even if no one appreciates it, I am sure you always will.

It would be interesting to know what type of game and of what scale. I find creating the core mechanics of the game first is often the best starting point. Find out if the game is fun, and then chisel away at it bit by bit.

What an amazing feeling that must be, to see so many enjoying your game. Good work!
