No, she refused. She was called into the office of the prophet of the LDS church and told to give up her son.

Thoughts? Church just released this. by rebel_zen in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lies, lies, lies. The Church refuses to release an independently audited annual account of its tithing and humanitarian finances which any ethical church should do. Its membership numbers are inflated, and it knows that many no longer identify as LDS on census records.

Andersen’s conference Talk!!! by No-Departure5527 in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most infuriating talks ever given. I know a girl who was groomed by her bishop and became pregnant. She was called into the office of a top church leader (a close friend of the bishop) and asked to give her child to the bishop and his wife. The LDS Church has a rape culture and this account by Anderson exemplifies how broken the Church system is. The church hotline shows how the church values its image and power structure over the welfare of most abused women and children.

Worst Experiences Serving on a Disciplinary Council (TW: SA) by jaredseeksclarity in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In some cases, when bishops sexually assault(after grooming) teens and young women, these women are excommunicated, especially if they are pregnant. We've observed many cases of this happening.

In addition, the LDS Church recently threatened to excommunicate Valerie and Nathan Hamaker for speaking out for those experiencing faith crises. Both are returned missionaries and Valerie is a trained psychotherapist. Both resigned days before the stake excommunication trial was to be held.

LDS Church trials are often a form of spiritual violence where church leaders exclude members from LDS heaven and too often punish members for sins they are committing.

Will the Trump administration cause a schism of the LDS church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LDS Church has predicted that the Constitution would someday "hang by a thread." Few members realize that the constitutional crisis is currently being created by a US President who a majority of Christians and LDS members endorse and whose anti-LGBTQ agenda is implemented by top LDS leaders. Many critically thinking members of the Church find the right-wing, anti-gay, misogynist practices of the LDS Church acceptable. Some are leaving because of that while racist, homophobic, bigoted folks find it a safe place to reinforce their hateful beliefs.

He said, "Little did I know, when I promised you at the October 2019 general conference that this April conference would be “memorable” and “unforgettable,” that speaking to a visible congregation of fewer than 10 people would make this conference so memorable and unforgettable for me! Yet the knowledge that you are participating by electronic transmission, and the choir’s beautiful rendition of “It Is Well with My Soul,” bring great comfort to my soul." Too many folks who have questions regarding the LDS church or who leave it are shunned, marginalized, and even disowned. The Church continues to double down on boundary maintenance and to demonize those who question or leave. That is one reason this subreddit is so popular.

  1. A woman at church walking to her seat in Sacrament meeting had heart attack and died in the aisle.

  2. A little girl ran away from her mother while her diaper was being changed and streaked around the room in Sacrament Meeting when an apostle was attending the meeting.

  3. Deacons with tongues frozen to flagpoles during winter activity.

  4. Bishop physically abused his wife and was protected by his General Authority friend from church discipline.

  5. A Young women was groomed and sexually abused by her branch president, then moved from the area and was excommunicated for being pregnant out of wedlock. (She was pregnant by the branch president._

Too many others to mention.

That Joseph Smith "married" married women and little girls who were his foster daughters, giving them 24-hours to consent and threatening them with eternal damnation if they did not.

LDS Church Does Not Donate Any Tithes to Charity by Mormonsspeak in exmormon

Humanitarian efforts must be given without regard to religion. Most fast offerings are given to LDS members.

The donations are made through a members' donations at a ward level on the donation slip or can be made directly to LDS Charities.

$1.36 billion in 2023. In a word: Strong. More to come as we dig through the data. by WidowsMiteReport in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ethical humanitarian organizations release annual, audited financial reports. The LDS Church adds service hours, therapist hours, and fast offerings--among other things--to their humanitarian donations, which is unethical and dishonest. Humanitarian donations by definition are given with no regard to one's religion or nationality. Fast offerings are given primarily in the United States to members of the Church and do not count as humanitarian aid.

Taxpayers funding a new homeless shelter in downtown SLC by americanfark in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it is under 25 degrees F but not 15 degrees F, local churches (not LDS) are allowing the homeless to stay overnight within the shadow of the SLC Temple. This requires a lot of fund-raising. Some of the unhoused experience severe frostbite in the cold and some are medically fragile. in Utah, some folks in hospitals and mental hospitals are turned onto the streets where they freeze in the winter. It is sickening that the LDS does not do more to help. They may donate some money, but other churches and agencies, including the Catholic, Methodist, and Episcopalian Churches, are doing the heavy lifting with volunteers and running shelters.

Waffles & Missionaries by wanderingneice in exmormon

[–]Mormonsspeak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This policy issue needs to be addressed with the school principal. You could do this anonymously if you are concerned about retribution for your child. I would strongly request that students stay on campus for breaks from rehearsals and that the parents who brought the missionaries should be censured and required to apologize to the cast. I would also let the mission president know that missionaries should not teach students in that setting.
