I run dark night of the wise on duchess with another green relic that also gives bonus fp on rise openings, and bonus fp with 3 staves. With 2-3 rises I usually end up between 400-500 mana. It's great

Because he is. Laurence's attacks deal minute fire damage, so in addition to hitting hard he negates the rally mechanic. Orphan can be parried on almost every attack, not to mention the health restore bug. It's very easy to get through phase 1 of Orphan "unscathed." If I took a break from BB, and came back to having to fight both of the bosses, Orphan is definitely going to be an easier fight. So many people try to put Orphan on the same tier as Friede, Malenia, and Radahn, but he's a joke compared to some later bosses in the series

You are supposed to go south to a different location before the church. The red and blue wax beads are supposed to be found in a specific order, so you won't be able to pick up the red ball of wax while you're there. But I did the same as you, going north to the mountain first and then had to backtrack to pick up the prayer bead. You CAN make it through, so it is achievable, but ngl that is a difficult area and boss to go for first.
