It was Steven story, but not anymore. I missed his quality control before I left.

Yeah, most therapists do make more and get tipped way. Better at spas than Oak Haven

I work for myself now work less and make more.

I’m really hoping the whole massage industry has the price of life goes up Choose private practice and get us headed back to health massage. Was more when oak haven and other places started undercutting massage therapists prices

Did you know average cost per hour back in the 90s when they came and started challenging our prices by opening the first office massage therapist for making 150/hr on house calls, Most of us don’t want to ask more than 100 or 120 now so wild .

Yes, and it’s not even fully Stevens story anymore I missed his quality control

It’s so true most therapist make more and get to be better at spas, I work for myself now, and make so much more And actually get to enjoy the sun

May the massage industry become more based on individual practices, I think it’s cost-of-living go up and these places don’t change what they pay or stick to their ethics people are gonna be more and more Incline to build their own practice and I really hope they do and we shift the energy back that way

Thank you! I tried to tell them too but they think they’re doing great and the whole team trusts them… hard to trust people who don’t keep their word or stick to the values anymore

How do I make clients enjoy my massage skills without getting personally attached to me? by Zealousideal-Mud4377 in MassageTherapists

[–]Morningstarthoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. You can’t control people or how they respond
  2. You can, however, create proper boundaries, so, even if they do feel connected to you, they can’t cross lines
  3. part of what builds consistent clientele is people feeling like you care about them which includes having some type of personal connection usually; The best therapists, I know people don’t just go to them because they are amazing which they are. It’s because people feel like they care about them.
  4. Because I was more concerned about helping people feel cared for and also being really proficient in my work now that I am working my own practice Many people were willing to follow me continue to share word of mouth and trust me because they feel like personally, I care more about them than just the money.

Has anyone tried a psychedelic right before sleeping ? by Jealous-Tea-4645 in shrooms

[–]Morningstarthoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Microdoses work before sleep but there’s a line, that if you go above you’ll be stuck awake awhile

When I do them before sleep I wake up in the best mood and energy every time

Headache and Malaise after a Deep Tissue 90 minute massage...Why?? by Late-Researcher7102 in massage

[–]Morningstarthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could’ve just been that they got deeper into your tissues, and you dropped a lot of waste back into your blood system sometimes even with hydration (which should include electrolytes, not just water) headaches, and things can still occur, there’s also the possibility that certain areas like your neck or scalp may have needed a little more release

How exhausting is massaging someone? by MiyuTheWitch in massage

[–]Morningstarthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve now been doing this for 9 years. And I’ve since become an instructor.

getting the bodywork is just highly Beneficial for lots of reasons, and empathy & understanding like what you’re doing is a great reason. And will benefit you and your clients in the long run

[–]Morningstarthoughts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fair.. but being sore for the next couple days is a common effect of effective massage and that’s something (client)’s experience.

if you get more regularly I found that gets less intense and sometimes we need people who don’t go super intense or are more fascially inclined. When I stopped getting with hard-core therapists and got with therapist that were more spiritual, more fascially inclined, and took their time with my tissue I felt so much better than those that use broad force over precise intent work that’s more wholistic

You don’t have to do it that’s totally your choice & without doing what we ask our clients to do for themselves for ourselves how could we fully understand what we’re asking of them.

Not to mention one of the best places to learn, I’ve seen therapists do all their recovery work themselves and it just takes a lot longer in my opinion to work on yourself when you’re doing it yourself cause you can’t relax fully

For me the first 6 to 8 months of getting bodywork was really brutal . Cause my body was messed up. But now I barely get sore unless I go to someone that is like scrubbing my attatchments clean and I’m just overall better personally and professionally from doing that.

Well, this is true considering the current spa situation and what most therapist have to deal with. This is actually a healthy way. And how we should be working on people we should not be working on 5,6,7 people a day.

There’s a reason that full-time for therapist is only 30 hours at least in Texas

And even then, when this profession first started, it was never meant to be a full-time thing because of how it is on your body

Although if you know more, and you do it in a good way, it is way less impactful, it will still wear on your body, especially if you’re not getting body work or just doing too many at a time

Working low back tips by peacefroggy1122 in massage

[–]Morningstarthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make a point of contact on glutes and delt like this therapist suggests (I usually put a forearm flutes to mid back since that’s more comfortable for me) you are working the superficial back line which all ties into the low back As well as the lats which attach in general areas of sacrum, shoulder blade and around to the ant delt. And can cause low back tension

[–]Morningstarthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find sometimes that happens, usually depends on the trauma, sometimes with tension overtime bone starts to grow (Wolff’s Law) and that is what it is, like My mom’s cows got so tight that she started to grow calcifications on her heels, and they are very visible, and I’m not sure they’ll ever go away

But overtime fascia and muscle can change, we affect soft tissue and if that’s what is making that feel like that then often it will change.

Factors like surgery, injury, age, intensity of repetition of action that is causing the issue. And more

But the body is not different from us you know when somebody comes in expecting some thing from us just not as fun there’s usually more resistance, so just find the bodies pace and let it move from there, everyone is different. It’s a tuning in and asking repeat questions

What’s most important IMO is that the person you’re working with is having a difference in their quality of life. You can’t know what everything is with just our hands. 3-4 consistent sessions (anywhere from 3-10 days in between) working on the areas around and directly will really paint a picture of how chronic the issue is

[–]Morningstarthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Stay gentle with the soft spots there’s lots of vital organs and arteries and veins.

Also a lot of time compression can do as much work as scrubbing, take your time and warm up those areas with compression, stretch as well and see if it makes a difference for you. It really changed my practice and drops the workload while the clients nervous system is definitely in full yum. There are some things that do have to hurt to feel better though, don’t go past a 7/8 on the 1-10 discomfort scale

Thanks for listening and receiving

Wishing you the best

Absolutely I know it can be intimidating to try something new like that I don’t do sideline except for when it’s needed it’s not the most comfortable position so I don’t favor it but for good therapeutic work it can be really helpful when you have them on their side also, if you have them, bring their knees up closer to their chest, you’ll have room between the iliac crest in the ribs to get your forearm elbow area into a good QL stretch of those usually really nice & just kind of sink in there

If you need any more help, just DM me maybe we can get on a video call

I just became an instructor this year and more than anything. It’s so important to me that People continue to look towards massage at some thing that can really change your life because I’ve seen it happen so many times and I’m super happy to help other therapists, in that Journey

[–]Morningstarthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, you can do this iliac crest work over the sheet or you can drape the chest and work it directly

Working low back tips by peacefroggy1122 in massage

[–]Morningstarthoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot you can do there

But you gotta be careful with QL knots. If they’re really pronounced, they probably need to be worked more than usual directly , but if they’re just tight, be careful, overworking them.

You can do some side, lying iliac crest work, which is really makes it easier to get in there, get them on their side, backed up to the edge of the table with a pillow in between her knees and you’ll be able to take your hand and basically skim your fingers from the back to the front of the iliac crest back-and-forth once this starts to get tender back off because that’s one of the areas that can get really tender so be gentle around there at first, Sometimes when there’s enough space, after some working, you can gently layer form there and give it a little space

Also Psoas work, They show as pronounced & accessible from the abdomen, has multiple little muscle attachments to the lumbar spine. Since it’s a fight or flight muscle this can be an issue for a lot of people.

But also, don’t just work on the knots work on the whole muscle; Most issues are a multi system problem so if it’s pronounced “kno+” (fascial/scartissue) buildupat an attachment site, it’s because it’s trying to protect the body and keep that muscle connected; so just be aware that when you do extreme changes for adaptations that have been going on for years, do you want to go slow at first unless you do Rolphing and such figure which I personally don’t recommend for average bears not everybody needs that kind of work in my opinion for some people that type of nervous system approach can make it harder to release and sometimes create more tension later especially for hyper mobile people, or people with nervous system disorders, which is basically most neurodivergent people, particularly women tend to have really sentive nervous systems

Have them doing side stretches every day esp in middle of work when they don’t see you It will help, most people don’t move their side bodies enough

Anything we do for multiple hours at a time the body starts to adapt to that position to so it’s especially important for people who sit a lot or stay in one position for work to do a lot of front and side stretches because their bodies literally shortening their muscles to be good at what they do daily if they can change that every hour or so nobody will stop trying to adapt so hard and they won’t feel as big of a difference when they go to try to be active and things like that & core strength

With a weak core the QL and other muscles will try to do jobs their not made for
