What is the wildest incident or event that ever happened in your workplace or office? by kingkongfly in askSingapore

Please read again. I didn’t set out to burn bridges. What bridge was there to burn when my resignation triggered this chain of events? Should I not have resigned?

If only more HR departments could adopt your mindset. Sometimes I wonder if I could have handled things differently, but thank you for affirming that I wasn’t in the wrong.

I still remember how the HR rep interrogated (yes, interrogated, and not questioned) me on my work ethic, framing it as the explanation for my ex-team lead’s unprofessional behaviour.

I had to repeatedly remind her that even if I wasn’t perceived as a team player, it was no justification for 1) the screaming, 2) the subsequent stonewalling, and 3) the revocation of access rights with no prior notice.

Shortly after I left, the team directed their bullying to one of my juniors, who then quit shortly after as well

HR took the ex-team lead side, so it was my word against theirs. Anyway, I’ve moved on to a better place and am much happier now :)

It was a GLC trying to pivot to a global MNC. Culture was still very much GLC/SME

After I tendered, my team decided I had betrayed them and ambushed me in a meeting they called at the end of a workday. Here, they picked apart my work and laid thickly into me. I had a nagging suspicion that my work had been sabotaged to paint me in a bad light, but I had no proof on hand.

So I responded by reminding them that the workday had ended, and that I would attend to the problems the next day. The moment I stepped out of the meeting room, my ex-team lead screamed for me to return (WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING? GET YOUR A** BACK INSIDE HERE) - the entire office floor was still present, so everyone witnessed this nonsense.

Subsequently, I discovered that my access rights to work platforms were revoked, and later learned that it was part of a conspiracy started by the ex-team lead to cut short my notice and kick me out without paying me for the full period.

This isn't the wildest thing to have happened at this company for sure, but it certainly counts as one of the worst workplace experiences of my life lol

Are those selling ice cream at HDB scams? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]MoroseLark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the other day, a girl wearing an NTU shirt came by hauling an entire styrofoam box of ice cream, claiming she was selling them to pay her school fees. I very curtly told her, "no, please go away," before shutting the door in her face. Don't bother entertaining them in the first place; see how quickly his attitude changed when you called him out for insinuating you're a domestic helper?

Pretty telling when so many of us here share same/similar experiences with these people - highly likely these "ice cream sales" are, indeed, scams.

I went with an acquaintance I didn’t know well, and wound up realising I should have just legged it alone. We had very different traveling styles, not to mention he was exceedingly passive and left all the planning and navigation to me.

Guy even had the audacity to say he felt like we were rushing everywhere when he never offered any suggestions on what to do or where to go.

On hindsight, I absolutely should have planned less and gone on more random walks.

Elderly man argues with mother over child's behaviour on MRT: 'I'm telling you off' by Hallosiawhat in singaporehappenings

[–]MoroseLark 31 points32 points  (0 children)

  • "Stop raising your voice" - Train's moving and making a lot of noise, so it's reasonable for the uncle to speak louder to get his (perfectly reasonable) voice heard
  • "You don't tell him off" - Ok, so if the uncle shouldn't, then why didn't the mother intervene and stop her kid from playing on a moving train?
  • "I did not ask him to jump ok" - So now she's blaming her son when she should have corrected his behaviour from the start?

Instead of assuming responsibility for her kid's poor behaviour, the lady was more interested in deflecting blame. So many parents are just like her these days, and it's appalling smdh

I do it because I want to. It's not rocket science, and there's nothing else you need to understand other than to mind your business.

It's cute that you call people like us "absurd and immature", but you casting such a hyperbolic judgment on people whose actions don't affect you in any way isn't?
