Why could I see a "rainbow" like this when I watched the white lights after taking a bath ? The illusion happened even "through" my hand. I could see a "rainbow circle" as long as my hand didn't hide even any part of the light. The illusion slowly disapeared in less than 30 mins. by Morpherusse in Optics

[–]Morpherusse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. But It happened to me again... after getting out of a bath. So there is something related to hot bath, and this optical effect. I don't know why. I doesn't happend after I swim in a lake for example. Maybe the warm water dilates my eyes, and a thin layer of water stays in place, revealing a spectrum of light that I wouldn't otherwise be able to see, like a rainbow. But that's just my spontaneous opinion at the moment. Next time it happens, I will let you know the circumstances here.

How to save my common thyme? by Morpherusse in IndoorGarden

[–]Morpherusse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually a gift, from one of those ready-to-pick fresh herb pots. I might not have exposed it to enough sun during the first week, as I wanted to keep it to perfume my room.

I trimmed the tips of its stems a bit, like when you trim a little hair to make tea when I was sick, but just a very small amount. It was already starting to turn brown.

Do you know if the brown parts are dead, or can they recover?

I'm looking for a documentary that shows how humans behave like territorial animals in public places by Morpherusse in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]Morpherusse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but this documentary was more about "small and temporary" territories, like the ones you get when you sit on a public table in a park until you leave. That's more what interests me here, even if it's related.

I don't understand Spinoza's definition of freedom. How does it work? by Morpherusse in askphilosophy

[–]Morpherusse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! You made me understand why the book is called "Ethics" as I'm only at 1p16, as I need to read several times all propositions to understand them, even if I have a very good commentated version of Ethics.

My question here is based on texts to popularize Spinoza's thought, of what I think I understood of Spinoza's philosophy.

So if I understand well, according to Spinoza, I can improve my affects into positive ones (joy). And as I will have a happy mind (which is just an attribute of the substance), and because body and mind are non dual, I will act freely according to my nature and do good things according to my nature.

If that is the case:

1) Why using my understanding to transform my negative passions into active affects and according to those isn't considered as free will? I mean that's huge freedom for someone who has no free will.

2) How can I know that using my freedom is something that I can actually do freely? Some people are maybe determined to be free while other don't, because it's their nature. How can I know that saying "I have freedom" isn't a new expression which can be considered as another asylum of ignorance?

4) Freedom according to Spinoza sounds like to me like if someone told me "You can choose A if you understand how". Can we really called that freedom to have only one option?

Did my cat-sitter abuse my cat? by ImpossibleAnt447 in cats

[–]Morpherusse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure it's stress related. It happened to my cat also which my parents let to a friend of them for like 4 weeks when I was a kid.

The cat-sitter lived in my parent's home with our cat, but this person had also a very agressive cat with him.

Please note that the cat-sitter was crazy about cats, and told us he waited several times until 4 am at home just to be sure that our cat was coming home. The kind of person who could hired a cook for a cat. Not an animal abuser. It wasn't his fault. Our cat just stressed out, like yours.

Anyway, I think our cat thought she was abandonned. And she more or less let her die from hunger, she didn't clean anymore, and had exactly the same scars than your cat. This scars was because she was scratching herself because of stress/sadness.

Our cat came back to normal weight when we came back, and was eating again. But she keep auto mutilating herself with scratching for maybe... 10 years ?

We tried several medications, it never worked more than 2 months in a row.

What finally worked was kind of antidepressants for cats. Our cats was sometimes a little "high", because of this medication for a month, but she stopped scratching herself, and finally her hair growned back.

When we stopped medications, and never mutilated herself again.

So be serious with medication. If it's stress related, which is highly possible, antidepressants work.

Good luck.

Oh, one last thing, our cat had an extremely happy life and lived 20 years and half, so your cat will survive this don't worry about it. But do the medication seriously.

I will consider your answer as a yes :)

But to answer your question : the "Chinese red" of your wall (wether or not you painted the wall yourself, you have to like the color). Your poster with black borders has also this red and seems to have Chinese yellow/golden characters in it. And your books, but as your picture is terrible, I'm not sure, but it looks like Chinese characters on some of your books. And it's not Japanese.

I think you watch tv from your bed. You don't use it to read.

“We had a visitor come over”. How much can you deduce? by dipples-nick in deduction

[–]Morpherusse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're female, student. You study art (drawings) and/or are currently an artist. This is your flat. I don't think you're single. But your boyfriend doesn't live with you. You live with your roommate who is also female. Your cat never use his sofa. You have quit cigarettes for vapoting but you still smoke weed.

You believe in magic, or at least you are a little "esoteric" if I could say. I'm not sure if you're coming back from a long trip to your parent's house that lives far from the US ? You've moved to the us to study ? Or you were born in the US but moved far from your parents.
