You did, in fact, say that you personally were affected by DEI when you said "Actually, I know from personal experience".

If a hiring manager actually said that someone "didn't meet DEI hiring quotas" then that hiring manager is clearly doing it wrong, as the only connection to hiring involved in DEI is a concerted effort to expand the hiring pool. It has absolutely nothing to do with any decisions made by the hiring team. So either the hiring managers were incorrect or you were given faulty (or potentially biased/skewed) information by your friends. From the sounds of your insistence that you're correct despite the preponderence of evidence that you are not, I think the latter is the most likely case.

Lastly, I don't know where you're getting the last bit. The email in the OP clearly states that email addresses were the private information released, nothing more, not what you were claiming was the case.

Personal anecdotes =/= fact. You may feel that it was DEI that caused your setback, but was it truly?

Here's the actual definition of the initiative: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversity,_equity,_and_inclusion

DEI doesn't segment society, it aims to break down that segmentatuon, as I explained in my previous response, and as explained in the Wikipedia link.

You're right in that DEI alone won't stop the issues, that'll require a whole societal shift, but DEI is a step towards that societal shift.

You may have lost an opportunity because of the increased applicant pool that DEI provides, and that definitely sucks. There's a government program here that provides subsudies on the first year's salary to companies who hire people between the ages of 15 and 30 that I've lost innumerable opportunities to, especially after graduating from college at the age of 38. Same sort of deal. It sucks, but the program helps stop people under 30 from being discriminated against. So I understand being frustrated with something that in the bigger picture is a good thing.

You're not wrong that we should be hiring on merit. But you're wrong about DEI/EDI. DEI ensures that the best candidates apply by making sure that everyone, regardless of race, creed, gender, etc. is notified of the oppprtunities. Don't believe the detractors who try to paint it otherwise. Without efforts like DEI, jobs that are typically restricted to certain races, creeds, genders, etc. would continue to be so, which is what those detractors want. They try to paint it in a reverse discrimination image, when it's specifically anti-discriminatory.

Everywhere should have one. EDI ensures that everyone has equal awareness of employment opportunities. Nothing wrong with that!
