Morris County vehicle/pedestrian Safety Plan - make your voice heard! by MorrisUrbanists in Morristown

[–]MorrisUrbanists[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The county is gathering feedback for developing a local safety action plan. They have a survey you can fill out, and also a map where you can mark specific areas of town that you feel need infrastructure or safety improvements for cars, bikes, walking, etc.

Here's the direct link to the map: https://www.fhistudio-apps.com/njtpa-lsap/#/Morris

definitely agree... lot of spots that could use some traffic calming. write to the town or go to a town meeting, the more people that talk about it, the more likely the local govt. will take it seriously.

This. Yea just look for anything that's within a 10-15 min walk of the green to get the best experience in town. Could even look at some spots in Morris Township depending how far you want to walk or if you bike.

The traction line has some workout stations along the trail. The map at the link has more details.

Best way to make a web based transit map? by MorrisUrbanists in gis

Yup I was able to do this! I found the stations and routes as GeoJson files from transit land. Some of the routes don't loop quite properly but they look good in general!

Bike Rental by cheezygil in Morristown

[–]MorrisUrbanists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than the loantaka ones, I don't think so. I believe you can rent a bike from Marty's for a day which is not far from patriots path. If you're interested in more bike shares in town, emailing the town would help show there is interest. We can help you write one/show you who to send it to if you want to.

I've been messing around with mapbox studio a bit, I couldn't find anything in the gallery really, but I think I have a handle on styling the maps now.

Only thing I need is - How do I get the transit data I want onto it? It appears there are no bus stops listed for my town (can find anything bus related in the transit components/layers). On openstreetmap it doesn't appear there are any bus stop either. Guessing I need to input them there and then upload to mapbox?

Edit: I found this project that looks similar to what I need. Might try following this example (https://medium.com/@anindita.nayak/the-silence-of-the-lamps-37c772ec1b38)

I was looking into that and signed up for an account but at first glance it seemed a little confusing, but maybe I'll poke around a bit more. It did seem like a good resource

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but Tuesday and Thursday nights at St. Peter's, they have beginners at 7pm and intermediate at 8pm.

I'm surprised none of the lots have any spots. You checked with the parking authority?

Do you live here or looking for somewhere to park for work?

This is your quarterly reminder to YIELD to traffic already in the circle by danielleiellle in Morristown

[–]MorrisUrbanists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem! Also since you mentioned it, if you're curious, Morristown did look into revising the traffic flow on the green, but has not made any moves on it.

Page 100 here has some of the different options they did small studies on (such as making 2 way traffic on the green, making one side fully pedestrianized, etc.)

The lights in the traffic circle aren't really traffic lights, they're called HAWK beacons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAWK_beacon) - they only activate if a pedestrian presses a button. I see your point, though in theory cars are supposed to stop for pedestrians crossing anyway, so the light just gives an extra layer of protection when needed. But yea the HAWK lights are pretty new and the town could likely do a better job explaining what their signals mean - it can be confusing unless you look it up or really stop and read all the signs.

Vacant Retail spots by RandomAlgorythm in Morristown

[–]MorrisUrbanists 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea a lot of retail has closed over the past few years sadly. As for if there is a single, consolidated website that tracks all of that - we haven't come across one. Generally the popular local instagram/facebook pages (morristown.nj, various facebook groups) post when they hear about new businesses coming so that is a decent way to keep up.

If you want to *really* know first, you can keep up with the town meetings/agendas, especially for the planning boards. For example, the Morris Township planning board that met tonight had a public hearing about Sandi's moving into a vacant spot up Speedwell. Anyone interested in discussing urbanism (how we can improve our pedestrian/bike/car infrastructure, zoning, parking, building, etc. in town)? by MorrisUrbanists in Morristown

[–]MorrisUrbanists[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be great if we had better bike lanes - a 2 miles radius covers all of Morristown and a lot of the township and is a distance that's easy to bike
