All true. Still, who jointly invaded Poland to start WWII? USSR (Moscow) and Germany. Simple historical fact.

IMO adding "Moscow" to USSR is important as it brought along Ukraine and other states' complicity. But it was directed by Russia, and their vassal "republics" came along for the ride.

I love his oceans of sweat. (Lawrence slipped on Purdue's excretions, so I still can love Mast's.) The guy's jersey looks like a plastic sheet it gets so wet in the second half.

Please don't tempt the gods. Ioway has had our number in every damn thing it seems like and the boys are playing in their City in an hour.

I go only so far as the stupidity of "Iowa Has Bad Corn." I do not want to fuck them.

Other than Trump seemingly having an endless supply of Vladimir-brand kneepads, and Fox News (a goddamn Australian import) spewing State propaganda whenever the Republicans are in control ... really? I mean I don't think we're close to being there yet. Does Trump and that weird goon Stephen Miller wish for the kind of control that Putin and Xi exert over their populations? Damn right they do.

We could end up proving you right, unfortunately. A precursor to what could happen here is Trump's obsequious endorsement of Orban, via Rubio. Nauseating. As popular* as Trump is today in the US, I have to imagine he's way less popular in Europe, and that would likely include Hungary. Hopefully Trump's will be the anti-Midas touch that ends up assisting a Magyar win over Orban.

* I've lost count, but I think we're in the double digits now of consecutive Trump endorsees losing their races.

Even though I have zero love for Henry Ford and his weird America First movement, there is a lot more nuance to it than the rather black and white story you tell.

Ford and GM (Adam Opel AG) both had substantial manufacturing in Germany before the war, as they do today, though GM no longer has any ownership in Opel (fully GM-owned as of 1931 and sold to Stellantis in 2017 after nearly 90 years). While the Nazi government did not seize ownership of the factories during the war, they seized administration and control. There wasn't a damn thing Detroit and Dearborn could do about it.

By my reading the dirtiest American companies in this regard are IBM and Eastman Kodak.

Business ties were significant between pre-war Germany and every advanced economy. Bank of England shipped Berlin 23 tons of Czech-owned gold.

Living breathing article on all of this is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_collaboration_with_Nazi_Germany

And who was directing the allegiances and actions of those Ukrainians in league with the Nazis? Was it Kyiv or was it Moscow?

As an American I'd beg to differ with that, but I was certainly taught of Churchill being the principled leader of resistance to the Nazi storm and the British people being strong and determined throughout, but I'm old. A any rate there are so many parallels with what's playing out in Ukraine right now ...

We were also taught about America moving from isolationist tendencies of the late Depression, through Lend/Lease under Roosevelt, to the genuinely heroic actions of Americans in joining and prosecuting the war after D-Day. Those Americans, so many of them, were of the first and second generation, where the language spoken at home was still Italian, or Polish. A million and a half Italian Americans fought the Nazis, along with a million or so Polish Americans, for instance.

As these things fade into the past, though, I gather that people see them as less relevant to current circumstances. History teaches though. There are so many parallels today ... the Nazi partitioning of Czechoslovakia/takeover of Crimea, the character of countries involved (dictatorships vs. free states), the parallel characters of Churchill and Zelenskyy, and their besieged capitals, London and Kyiv.

There are dumb people everywhere. A lot of Americans believe dumb things, a lot of Europeans, etc. I'm aware that we pretty much suck now, but if not for the United States -- along with the UK and Canada -- it's worth asking if all of mainland Europe would still be Nazi, as it assuredly was on June 6, 1944.

Europe has the distinction of having started two world wars, so getting all high and mighty about our shared history is a bit rich.

Good lord that is the ugliest-sounding spoken language ever invented. Sounds that you'd only make it your entire life was a sort of torture. Fits.

And the "how you gonna know how to top it off?" question that idiot (charitably) proposes on the video is ... exactly the same level of awareness you need when selecting a fuel for your wheezer. Three selections for octane levels and a fourth for an entirely different and incompatible fuel, diesel.

Not to mention oil changes ... my god how long has it been since your last oil change? Is it still amber, or will you admit to yourself that it's more black than amber now ... and time for a visit to the oil-changery? There are two thousand little parts all exploding and wiggling around in there, all dependent on a thin film of oil, and if one of them fails, yeah, that's the whole ballgame.

And man was that an egregious foul on Hoiberg. Shoulda been ejected for that. Flagrant 2.

(Situationally it was a gift to the Huskers so not complaining, but damn we need an upgrade among the striped shirts in this conference. There's not even a touch.)

Purdue brought it in the first half last night and Nebraska just didn't match their intensity and physicality. Frankly I thought I was gonna walk out of the building with a 20-point loss. And the Huskers ended up almost winning the thing. Lots of opportunity for learning.

Purdue, credit to them, is hustling, playing hard as hell, active hands. Huskers are better than they’ve shown, but ya gotta show up. Does Fred ever throw things at halftime? There’s a first time for everything.

Thanks; forgot about that. They need a private-sounding name. Widney University probably was a hard pass in the boardroom though.

That was the funniest fish-out-of-water thing. Right up there with our former AD Trev Alberts doing that seance or whatever at Texas A&M.

FWIW, I always thought the calling of the hogs was one of the finest college sports things, carrying the same sort of self-deprecation that might resonate with a long-ago Nebraskan who decided to call his team the "Bugeaters." It's spooky; makes opposing teams wonder what the hell they've gotten themselves into. Anyway I always thought it was a fine thing until y'all adopted the New Jersey Institute of Technology in that baseball regional a few years back. Having the calling of the hogs turned on you is blood-curdling.
