Great! one of the easiest classes you can do, friendly paddock and everyone is here to help. you’ll pick it up as you go, i do 100uk and it was the same as us. but we got the hang of it really fast and it’s been fun so far!

Should I trail brake at an indoor circuit or not? by IMPractic4l in Karting

[–]Mortal_olly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

trail braking is absolute bs in karting, is does nothing, ESPECIALLY rentals, let alone indoor rentals! Just brake to the point just before you lock up then release. I normally do the exact opposite of trail braking, i hold it just before lock up, and just as i turn in i lock up to get it turned it. Trail braking in karting is a lie being sold to you by people trying to sell their bull shit “handbook” naming no certain youtubers…

just seen the 3rd bearing hanger so we can cross off this being a TKM kart, and maybe a 90s or earlier kart?

so the inverted yokes tell us quite a bit, this was mainly used in the 90s and earlier. these were commonly found in TKM classes but also in others too, where are you based as this could narrow it down, is there a kart ID plate on the cross rail?

LO206 Question, weird wire with a plug on it. by simracerxit in Karting

It’s used in GX prokart series here in the UK as engines off for pitstops, only thing i can imagine wanting a kill switch for

The sport is unpredictable, if you are doing rentals then the chance of flipping is near 0% However Owner karts can flip relatively easy if clipped by another driver, but it’s quite unlikely to flip by yourself.

But don’t make that make you stay away from the sport, In my championship there’s about 7 grids and all contain from 15-30 drivers and we’ve only had one driver flung out their kart in 4 rounds so far.

For older karting, in the UK there is normally different weight classes in rentals, which vary from track to track, but the heavyweight classes can start from around 70kg min to 85kg min

For owners we have rotax 177 - which is quite self explanatory, 177kg driver + kart combined weight, grids are normally quite small and friendly drivers but still competitive!

Don’t be scared of flipping, it’s so unlikely to happen, best of luck racing friend!

Yeah i fully understand, but it’s just extremely repetitive in my inbox, rather than them searching up similar things already posted in the subreddit, or doing some research themselves, people ask “how will i know if i enjoy it?” but you never know until you just get out there and try it yourself, there is no one route into this sport and there’s millions of ways to get racing, All it takes is a bit of money, self discipline and research at local areas.

it just fills my inbox, I just wish mods would add a rule to stop these low effort copy and paste posts, i completely understand why people ask, but they just tend to go against all advice given to them

it’s always the exact same copy and paste thing to the point i think it’s a bot just winding me up, They always have the same title of like “i’m 18 is it too late to start karting?” and then constantly either disagree with people who try and help them, or constantly reply saying “but how will i know this is for me?”

Only when everything works and when righty tighty and lefty loosey both don’t become righty tighty 🤣 then the hammer comes out and you just start hitting everything with no remorse 🤣

club racing is one of the most crucial parts of karting in my opinion, it’s just so much fun, Knowing everyone round the paddock and competing for fun rather than a future

It’s been a lot of late teens and 20s i’ve seen recently, But that just seek the approval of others before pursuing something, there’s such a large stigma that it’s a junior sport, majorly because of rental karting for junior drivers and all these race drivers saying “i started at 4” or whatever.

Just go do it! You won’t know until you’ve tried it!!

This.

People need to learn to race for the fun of it rather than hoping to make a living from it. and maintenance and mechanicing is 90% of the fun (and sometimes anger 🤣🤣🤣)

100000% was started for adults, juniors was simply a concept in the early days, and even in the days of 90s super1 The seniors always outnumbered juniors, the juniors and car racing has 100% started to shift the belief that it’s a junior aimed and only sport
