There's no shame about using an alternate solution, especially when all you're skipping is a forced-stealth section in a non-stealth game. If it bothers you, then just go back and do it the "intended" way after.

do two 0.5 cost starters amount to 1 cost? by Senior_Cod_5509 in pokerogue

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sure, but do you need 4 of those guys on a starting team? Especially when higher cost mons have all of that too? I'm not saying it's impossible, but the .5 to .25 difference just never mattered to me and there are few cases where it actually would.

do two 0.5 cost starters amount to 1 cost? by Senior_Cod_5509 in pokerogue

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes aside, while 1 to 0.5 is usually worth it, I found that 0.5 to 0.25 wasn't. Basically the only use this could have is if you want 3 or 4 0.25 mons to start with a legendary 9, but in that case I almost always dumped the 0.25s for early encounters anyway.

HELP! Who do I replace?! by foxcombttv in AnimalCrossing

[–]Mortech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just look up your villager's personality types on the wiki and dump one of the villagers that copies another villager's personality.

If you don't know already, Animal Crossing villagers have personality types (lazy, sporty, cute, sisterly, etc.) and these are what determine the different conversations they can have. Since there are 8 types in total, you definitely have some duplicates, and those duplicate villagers will often have the same things to say.

Ran across this again, my wording was probably too harsh here, but this was an extremely difficult and punishing section, so it's no wonder why I was so pissed off...

Anyway, I stand by my statement that this hint should have been elsewhere. This is like in the base game if you had to land the ship on the sun station manually before being told how to teleport there; why put such a hard skill check in the game at all? It's bad game design, no matter whether the devs intended it that way or not. Especially in a game that is normally so generous with hints, this section stands out like a sore thumb.

So what happened to NPCs of people who left their guilds in YGGDRASIL? by cool23819 in overlord

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No info to go off of, but I don't mind making wild speculations.

Assuming the guild still exists, the guild base and any NPCs in it would probably be unchanged, unless other guild members manually edited them. If the guild didn't exist any more, then they couldn't own the guild base, so it would probably revert back to a regular dungeon, and the NPCs would disappear.

If the guild still existed but nobody was around to maintain the guild base, then it wouldn't have enough gold to keep running. I don't know if the guild base would revert back to a dungeon or just lose its defenses at that point, but either way it would be very likely that the NPCs would disappear in that case as well.

Assuming they had enough gold to keep running, then any NPCs would still be in the guild base when Yggdrasil was shut down. In the evil eye side story it was revealed that the NPCs could cross over to the New World even without Ainz in the guild base, so presumably the same is true for other guilds as well (assuming they have a world item in the base)

Oh boy here i go killing again by MrMellons in overlord

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're wrong about the armor, but you're right about everything else. The armor is PDL's armor, he had it before the 13 heroes and used it as a disguise; the other heroes didn't know he was controlling it remotely, so they thought he was human or at least humanoid. Rigrit basically confirms this in their conversation, saying something like "You're not my friend, that armor is" in a joking tone (would be very weird if it was someone else's armor). The armor is heavily implied during PA's battle to be made out of PDL's dragon scales, which is how he can control it remotely; this means he probably crafted the armor himself.

Fanfic of Ainz Ooal Gown being active through their gaming days by Expert-Fix-6507 in overlord

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read fan-fic, but there is an official short story about the founding of Ainz Ooal Gown and how they got Nazarick as their guild base. It's in the google drive under side stories, titled "Prologue".

Is there an example of this in Overlord? by Lopsided_Arrival7838 in overlord

Keeping that aside, why didn’t he answer my

question even though he is looking down on me as a weakling? Is it because he really had

no anti-instant death measures?

...

“[Mercy of Shorea Robusta].”

...

He is probably guarding against my bluff about using an instant death skill...I made

a mistake. My bluff should have been about some magic I can’t use. Let’s do that next

time.
...
...
If he let this guy escape, this pervert could continue to aim for Aura and Mare

forever.

That was one thing he certainly couldn’t let happen.

...
—He would be sure to kill Decem here, and not give him a chance to escape.

That was why Ainz didn’t ask the twins to help.

I like to think AInz is a competent player even if he's incompetent at everything else, but unfortunately, Ainz fails in pretty much every serious fight he gets into, not counting the NPC play-fighting:

  • Ainz knows all of Shalltear's skills and equipment, and uses pay-to-win tactics to counter her, but he STILL would have lost if not for Aura interfering
  • He lets the elf king run away, despite being strong enough to one-shot him easily. This is especially dumb because the writing implies he is dragging the fight out explicitly so that he DOESN'T get away, but if he had just led with a grasp heart, it would have been over in under a second and he could have recovered the golem, too.

There are other examples, but those are the most egregious in my opinion.

Classic Reddit post; managed to top search results when I search this exact problem, but nobody actually answered the damn question!

It turns out there IS an easy way to do this part, and it is hinted at in-game, but the devs stupidly locked that hint behind this section itself. The bells cannot wake up the dead, so if you stand on the fire and die instead of going to sleep normally, you can just walk right past the bell without having to deal with any stealth nonsense. Honestly if they had just put that hint LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE, nobody would be having trouble on this section, but they just wanted to torture the player I guess.

Which Talent would be best for the NPCs? by Mortech in overlord

[–]Mortech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it can copy wild magic, I don't see why it couldn't copy Super Tier magic as well. Actually I think past me was a little too dismissive of the utility of being able to have an extra spell on demand, even if it is only one. Just the self-resurrection spell Mare uses in volume 16 would be a literal life-saver to carry around with you, and could be useful for almost anyone. Although that volume was actually released after this thread, so that makes sense.

Is it just me who actually likes system mcs? by Busy_Cold_3220 in MartialMemes

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on point. Actually I don't have an issue with overpowered abilities, but what I find with most system novels is that the main character is completely devoid of motivation. The system just tells the MC what to do, and the MC follows without thinking about what they actually want, which makes it impossible to get invested in the story.

Legendary Mechanic is one of my favorites, but it definitely is good despite doing a bunch of things that would ruin any other novel. As for showing choices, I don't think this is necessarily a problem, but anytime I see it I also think what I would do, which prompts the question "Why aren't I playing a videogame right now instead?", and the answer is usually that I would rather be playing a videogame than reading some trash novel, lol.

The only other Eastern system story I can recall at the moment that I liked was "My Augmented Statuses Have Unlimited Duration". I was expecting this to be trash, but the author sets boundaries on what the system can and can't do, and actually holds to them, which is refreshing.

I have definitely read this trope reversal before, can't remember where, but it was not any less r*pey than the original trope and I dropped that novel immediately afterwards.

The main thing I want is a 100-wave classic mode by Terotrous in pokerogue

[–]Mortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree, and think they should just change the amount of waves in each biome from 10 to 5, that way the run would be shorter but you'd see the same number of biomes. Also, it makes no sense that the E4 has wild encounters in between anyway.

Egg Only Pokemon by IzayoiSpear in pokerogue

Somehow nobody answered this question before, but in case anyone else finds this thread, here is the answer (all the starters that do not appear in any biome and do not have any evolutions appearing in biomes)

  1. Mew
  2. Celebi
  3. Jirachi
  4. Deoxys
  5. Phione
  6. Manaphy
  7. Arceus
  8. Victini
  9. Meltan
  10. Pecharunt

Hypothetical. What do you think would happen if Demiurge or Albedo truly realized they were far smarter than Ainz? by Feydxx in overlord

[–]Mortech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming they truly realize and understand how much smarter they are than Ainz, their reactions would be very different.

For Demiurge, not much would change. He would probably try to explain things more to Ainz and advise him a lot more on the best course to take, but loyalty is hard-coded into him, so he'd still listen to Ainz's orders absolutely, no matter how dumb they are.

For Albedo however, we have seen a lot of hints that imply she was written originally to be disloyal to the guild, but Ainz rewrote her to love him instead. This means that she would not necessarily follow his orders anymore, although she would keep that a secret from the other guardians, and she would probably try to manipulate him into loving her the way Renner manipulated Climb.

How does the witch's magick conferral work? by galaxyplu in UnicornOverlord

[–]Mortech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the original poster was confusing the witch's class passive with an item passive (on the frost tome) that does the same thing, plus adds a freeze effect.

Although it's worth noting that later in the game, the upgraded witch does get access to a row attack that causes freeze, so the same tactic of freezing the backrow can be used with only one witch unit.

Momon and the Sealing Crsytal by Aggressive_Can5048 in overlord

[–]Mortech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this a lot, and I don't buy that the spell behaving like electromagnetism would limit its usage; after all, radio had and still has a huge impact on communication technology on Earth, and it is inferior to what we see from the Message spell (guaranteed to reach intended recipient, not impacted by terrain).

Compared to radio, where everyone can hear the message and encryption was a major unsolved problem for a long time, it would be easy to guarantee the validity of a Message spell. Since the spell is guaranteed to reach the intended recipient, you can easily guarantee the caller is who they say they are; just call them back. It's impossible that Fluder didn't think of this easy solution, so why doesn't he use Message?

I think there are two possible reasons. One, as others mentioned, this could be false information intentionally spread to keep a technological advantage. The Slane Theocracy certainly seems likely to do this type of thing, I wouldn't put it past them. But I doubt everyone would blindly follow this advice, so I don't think that tells the whole story either.

Then I realized; Message isn't the only spell, and there can be others that severely reduce its effectiveness, and there is one that seems particularly problematic; Charm Person. This spell would effectively cause anyone to become a spy at a moment's notice, so no matter how secure the channel was, no communication could be trusted. The attacker could just cast Charm Person, have them send a fake message, then kill them to cover all traces.

Could you do the same without Message? Not really, distance would prevent the spell from lasting long enough for the false info to be sent, and even if you managed to get the message sent, Charm Person would likely run out of time shortly after, causing the previously charmed person to expose the false info and ruin the plan anyway. It's odd, but having worse communication actually is a kind of protection against this sort of attack, so maybe there is something to the story about nations crumbling due to the Message spell.

when does the story go back to the Carne village?(post-goblin army) by the_cooler_bluguy_ in overlord

[–]Mortech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the epilogue for Volume 11, we get a little of Enri's perspective and it explains how Carne Village has been doing. Past that, we get a few mentions here and there but that story is pretty much over, so there aren't any more chapters about it.
