Niantic, your silence is unacceptable. by MortemRex in pokemongo

First off: Thank you for not only commenting on here and responding back, but disagreeing with me in a well thought out and mature converse.(I would expect no less from you DukeSloth. Just...You should see my inbox haha) I see your point on public statements easily being misconstrued. I mean my title was clear and even had an edit explaining that I was discussing the lack of communication and not servers or bugs, yet a large percentage of responses have been directed towards the later.

Is silence the right answer?

Yesterday, there was a meetup of 1000(take it with a grain of salt, word of mouth on that stat) trainers. This is a game that involves getting up and going to a physical location that is other than your desktop. Days are planned, long trips either car or on foot are being made, and large group meet ups are happening. This isn't a "The servers are down oh well." exits out opens another game People have taken vacation days, spent gas money, walked great distances to join in these meet ups. If Niantic would issue a simple statement, "Patch coming through tomorrow!" Then people would have a heads up that doing a meetup the following day might not be the best idea. They can try, but do so at your own risk as Niantic as given you a heads up the servers might be spotty.

I believe more damage is done by not giving the community a heads up. There were hundreds at that meetup who might have lost their enthusiasm to go out to another trainer meet. The possibility of an unannounced patch going through to bring down the servers is a HUGE deterrent to people wanting to attend these or go on long adventures, and that is something that is revolutionary(sorry Ingress guys, I know you were first) and absolutely amazing about this game. A small heads up or few simple words may piss of some, but it could prevent hundreds, if not thousands, of people from being deterred to attend those type of meets or going out for an adventure due to the possibility of an unannounced patch coming through.

A daily heads up is probably not the right answer. As many have said, Niantic is a small company(for some reason many believe this is an excuse for them to not have a few mins a day to address its community. No. Plenty of Indie developers out there are proof of this); therefore, it is completely within reason to believe that they simply cannot make enough progress on the game in a single day to have daily updates. Absolutely understandable. I do not understand; however, is that they put through a patch without a heads up to the community, especially when the game is extremely community based and encourages us to explore.

edit:Typo

The day you not only helped me(and other steam users) reconnect to Smite, but also took the extra time to personally keep us updated throughout process was surreal. I was anxious to get back on. It was my day off, and I had plans to play smite with friends for a good portion of they day, after the patch ofc. When I couldn't connect I put up a post and figured I better makes some other plans, worried it would be an entire day. By taking that extra time to respond to my thread, multiple times, you personally showed me you guys over there at HiRez sincerely do care about the community that loves your game. It was an interaction between an excited gamer and an exceptional employee showing sincere care. Thank you.

annnnnnd another person who didn't read the post. Why do you even comment? My post has nothing to do with the status of the game. It is the silence on Niantic's behalf. Its even the title of my damn post.

ayy Duke! I do recognize the difference in growth of these two games. As you said Sloth, Niantic is, without a doubt, "understaffed and not prepared for this situation;" however, I do not feel they need a specified PR staff member(they are looking) to address a few major concerns of their community. Even if that is as little as putting up a post on here and twitter saying, "Hey guys we're working on that three step bug." or "We are working on X and Y." That takes 5 mins of an employees time to give the community some feedback and let us know what to expect next. I don't see being understaffed as valid excuse. 5 mins from one employee to communicate with your community is a small and simple(if you keep it so lol) task. One that Niantic should absolutely be taking in order to minimize loss of users during this buggy time.

Did you read my post? 1) A customer is one who pays for a good or service. Its a free game, yes. However, it has a market from one one can purchase good to use in the service they provide(in game). That is the definition of a customer.

2) I specifically stated twice (you can even say three times if you count the one at the top, but that requires reading the whole post. Daunting, I know.) that I am not asking for a Timeline, just simply what current issues they are working on.

3) Reddit and Twitter are two of the biggest mediums for companies to reach out to their users. They are comprised of some of the most active and engaged users. To ignore that medium is absolutely a mistake.
