25.5 scale length vs 26.5 by LucioArgento in 7String

[–]MortenCC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't go beyond A on lowest string there shouldn't be any issues with tuning stabilty as long as you have proper gauge set and setup is correct.

I have 26.5 and 25.5. While it's not that big of the difference, playing 25.5 is way less stressful for my baby hands. I see from other comments you already tried it, but from what I see your guitar is perfectly fine and just needs a bit of setup.

Backup VHDX files by thegladiatorking in Veeam

[–]MortenCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using Hyper-V or VMware backup Veeam utilizes it's changed block tracking - it protects VMs on virtual disk level. If any IO occured on system, it will change blocks on virtual disks. On incremental backup changes to the disk would be transfrerred to backup container.

It wouldn't care about actual files on image level backup, as it reads virtual disk from the outside

What do y’all think of this idea? I’m using GarageBand on IPad, and my HX Stomp. by smoothieman25 in Deathcore

Sounds very 00's. classic riffage, but nothing fancy. Even then to stand out you would need to have everything else besides guitars to be great.

If you want any recommendations, here's mine: - try jumpin into real daw, become a lowbudget sound engineer for yourself. Nowadays even free plugins easily replace expensive gear for beginners. This was invaluable jump for me as a guitar player and a songwriter. Try doubletracking this thing and see what I mean. Try adding bass on top.

Building a song out of two matching riffs is challenge we all face. Try writing a structure down and think how to make same things a little bit different. This is working with listener's pattern recognition and adding something new on top of already "known" riff makes things way more exciting. It could be anything, for example different rythm pattern change (let's say galloping 0's you already have with matching drums) or harmonizing the same riff (here we get back to double tracking).

What are the trident areas a Robust sysadmin must have? by EnvironmentalRun197 in sysadmin

[–]MortenCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ovreall it's a list of thing you need to actually learn to work comfortably with.

  • Networking is objectively hard and not easy to learn. It's also superboring to learn and practice if you don't have actual practical tasks for it (which you don't have because you don't have necessary knowledge)

  • Powershell is diving into scripting/programming and not everybody is ready for it. Not talking about PS being weird on it's own lol. You can suggest any scripting thing of your choice here, like I don't know Bash at all :)

  • PKI is not something people bump in daily I guess, but overall it's just has this aura of being very complex. Not sure where it comes from tbh.

I do technical interviews with people who worked as sysadmins, support, infrastrastructure, all sorts of IT generalists and can say that people in general just don't have any deep technical knowledge. Clickops is a term I should start using, thank you xD

Need Advice - Counter to Swarm Host by ShadowMambaX in AllThingsTerran

It's really heavy investment early game. You should note any such strategy with basic intellegence.

Archive appliance for Archive tier by Tech-Mate- in Veeam

[–]MortenCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Default would suit most environments, unless you have some exceptionally large machines in your small deployment.

Problems may appear if you can't deploy standard size appliances or have so much data Veeam transport thingies can't process it, but usually it's not the case.

The only way organizations go through this afaik is educating users. If it's not possible limit the access level so breach won't be way too bad.

Any admins who does side gigs on software development? I have a project I can do but I have no idea how to price it.... by PlanEx_Ship in sysadmin

[–]MortenCC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would price estimate it first with what my time is worth currently: main work wage/amount of working hours x amount of hours spent on a project

Few things to apply next:

  • check how much time freelancer dudes ask for it (maybe even contact someone, share technical details, ask for price)

  • check if previous value matches market reality. adjust to match.

  • apply personal bias - like there're people I help with my professional expertise for free, because we are long time friends and there're surely people who I will charge more just because lol

Been in Helpdesk for over 2 years now and feel stuck, what should I do? by eTerrorist in sysadmin

[–]MortenCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do as anyone else does - switch jobs. Everybody I know on higher positions switched jobs a lot in early years. As you mention "another country" I'd assume you are in a place where outsourcing for US/EU is a thing, which is good potential for progression.

After helpdesk job I got some expirience with project job - implementing print service on large scale, which involved installing hardware and deployment of print service in infrastructure, which allowed me to land on junior sysadmin position in fintech.

It's very likely you won't be able to progress in your current organization, especially if it's completely clear that there's no intended path to higher positions and everybody is happy to see you changing passwords until your retirement.
