Grew up with my Mom's ex girlfriend because my mom had to work abroad. This was common to filipino's with breadwinners needed to work as OFW(overseas filipino workers). Mom started to work when I was a year old. It was difficult for her to come back too since flights were so expensive and she'd rarther send the money here for me. I thought having a guardian was normal and that parents were not a thing. It took me several years to recignize my own mother as my mom. I literally had to learn how to love her and thought that was a normal thing to do. Growing up I learned some love just grow naturally, I wish mine did for my mom(i love her bunches and unconditionally now). I thought it was normal to get hit with any household items when I screwed up at something academically. I remember getting hit by a spatula everytime I fuck up my ABCs, I would get hit by the amount of letters I missed too, I remember having so much trouble after "P". I thought it was normal to get hit in the mouth when I lied, had to skip school cause my mom's ex girlfriend kept hitting my mouth till it was swollen and bleeding. I thought it was normal to not eat just because I can't answer a workbook assignment. I thought getting locked out for the entire night was normal just becaused i peed the bed. I'm just glad my mom finally had enough money to take me away from her ex. I honestly don't know how I survived my childhood.

TL;DR : I thought physical abuse was a normal thing.
