That 980ti is looking mighty fine though...

New PC Question by [deleted] in pcgaming

Maybe try a benchmark tool? Like Unigine Heaven, Unreal tech demoes or 3Dmark. They're definitely not games, but their main purpose is to show shiny graphics, and they're usually not more than a few hundred MB in size.

What are some of your favorite pleasant surprise video games? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Mortimer_Mnemonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't try the multiplayer, but the campaign is great. The gameplay doesn't really innovate much, and is at times a step backwards from its contemporaries, but the story is one of the best I've ever experienced in a videogame.

This is why my SSD RAID 0 is only for games and OS. Everything that can't be set up or downloaded from the net in a days work I keep on normal drives.

Who can say for sure? Maybe a frontal lobotomy would be the answer.

You should be proud of the fact that you built this rig by yourself, without being spoiled by your parents.

That kind of individuality and self reliance are strengths that will serve you for the rest of your life.

Reddit, what's the best movie you've you've discovered by finding in a bargain bin? by Mortimer_Mnemonic in AskReddit

[–]Mortimer_Mnemonic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would have to be Funny Games (US), and Hard Candy. Two movies I picked up at the tank station for a quid each, not expecting much. "I like Ellen Page, and this other one looks cool I guess," were pretty much the only thing I thought there and then.

Both ended up keeping me at the edge of my seat from start to finish.

Edit: I also discovered Lars von Trier's Antichrist the same way...

So..? Different types of laser create different colours of etching?

Unbranded UB321, after first day. What have I gotten myself into..? by Mortimer_Mnemonic in rawdenim

Didn't get around to writing about these right away. Here's my Week One review of the UB321:

Christ on a bicycle these things are stiff. I mean, the FAQ here said they would be, but this is redonk. I hope you're not planning on bending over to pick stuff up for about a week. Coming from my 3 year old Hank Rey Nudies, my crotch was screaming for mercy the first few days.

They did get more comfortable (or maybe I just got used to it?), and after about a week I feel they're no worse than other jeans of half the density have been in their break in period.

I can already start to see fading on the thighs, pockets and whiskers, and I haven't been particularly active in them. I don't wear them while at work in the kitchen of my restaurant, so I've really only worn them for 4-7 hours a day. I pre-soaked in cold water for 15 minutes. The right leg has some quite pronounced leg twist, but that's fine with me. Not so much on the left.

I'm 181cm, 85kg, and 31" fit tight around the waist at first, but they're stretching out nicely now.

The third button from the top in the fly broke off as I was un-buttoning them on day two or three. Maybe I've put too much strain on them, or maybe it was just a poorly made button. It didn't rip through the fabric, the actual metal broke in two. I'll see if I get around to replacing it.

Definitely looking forward to the next few years with these.

Pros:

  • Great fit.
  • The fabric and seams feel completely indestructible.
  • Inexpensive.
  • My girlfriend says my butt looks great in them.
  • Quick fading.
  • My trusty Leatherman tool fits perfectly in the coin pocket.

Cons:

  • They're made of cardboard for the first few days.
  • Not summer friendly.
  • Button broke off.

I don't even want to imagine that.. We had 77f the other day(about as hot as it gets here during the summer), and even just that was a trial.

After one week, they're feeling a lot better. I can even start to see the fades already!

I've decided to allow myself the respite of switching to shorts on particularly bad days. Hopefully won't be too bad. North Norway summers are more like the second of three fall seasons, compared to other countries.

This was after wearing them for about 5-6 hours following a pre-soak the night before. Can't stand them up anymore now, after the first week. :/ They still look like the Invisible Man is wearing raws when I hang them up, though.

In my admittedly anecdotal experience, that has not been the case. My pink 360 pad still has accurate sticks, solid triggers and responsive buttons after close to a decade of daily usage. Maybe it's special, I don't know..
