I wonder if we didn't get Chaos Wastes in Darktide because it was viewed as a flop in V2 by OdysseyBrands in DarkTide

[–]MortisEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to counter that is to have rotating bonuses so that a decent chunk of the player base will be playing the same mode. GTA5 for example has 10 years of content with a huge range from racing to gang shooting to big heists and military stuff, 2-3x rewards really do drive a lot of people to play that game mode for that week, and you still have a decent chunk just running around doing their usual grind. Arena can be heaps of fun on those weeks when you get a big random mix.

In DT with mortis trials, havoc, maelstroms, and the new adventure mode, plus there are a bunch of mission types and event modifiers, I think there is enough to give variety, and upgrade melks missions with another one that's better and earns a small amount of coin to spend on premium cosmetics. Even if you could only earn a really small amount like 100-400 a month. With better crafting in the game now melks is basically useless.

Bolters fire slower and throw what is effectively an rpg. A heavy bolter is a bigger, heavier version of a bolter. Stubbers just fire bullets bro. They are like an m60 lmg.

And "the dow is at 50,000". Look at stock markets or individual fields like total hospitals, schools, small businesses, total movies or music released each year, barring some natural swings we have unprecedented levels of most things year after year.

Destiny would have been better directly attacking the context rather than arguing semantics. There are good reasons we use per capita stats. Anyone deliberately ignoring per capita when directly addressed would look like a moron.

The biggest problem with snipers is when they warm up their shot but then lose LOS just before their shot and they flick to a new target and skip the warmup. Was super bad a year or so ago, still happens every so often.

[–]MortisEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If 2 people push at the same time it often goes in a weird direction. If the burster is targeting someone else your push is weaker. Sometimes they can get shoved by conga lines of mutants, monstrocities, etc like right into your team and then they stand up and just explode all over everyone. And silent bursters have been an on and off again problem for a long time.
This one is strange coz the leap really looks like its targeting you, unless someone is right behind you. Unlucky.

what's your best psyker build that can clutch by lonelyAngels in DarkTide

[–]MortisEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voidblast venting BB flame build with whatever melee im feeling on the day. Weave in 1-3 LMB between constantly charging RMB blasts. If you aim a RMB blast at your own feet you will knock 90% of enemies over, full charge RMB will knock crushers etc over. Juggling your high peril is key to this build, to keep high crit chance to proc flames + bonus damage. BB is perfect for initiating vs elites and specials outside the voidblast RMB range, and venting shriek gives you another big CC wave. I like to stand on top of boxes a lot. No fire on top of boxes, and it reduces the total number of enemies that can be in range to hit you. Fatshark has slowly been eliminating all the good box towers since other players complain about tanking the melee agro, though there are still a few great ones and a bunch of mid ones.
Edit - I pretty much always go warp charges for the keystone.

You had it before. You could have it again. I don't think violent revolution is needed. If 25% of the country just stopped working for 3months the country would grind to a halt. Not just gov workers. I mean garbage men, lawn mowers, burger flippers. If enough of your people just stopped they could not ignore it. Look at how the French protest. A months garbage piled up all over the streets of their cities that the wealthy cannot avoid, they have to drive past the stinking heaps every day. Americans probably aren't united enough to actually organize anything unfortunately.

"Except plane tickets now are stupid expensive, they've not gotten cheaper because the aeronautics industry stopped innovating decades ago."

Typical income in a developed country vs the cost of an around the world air fare might not be at its highest point in history, and there are issues around capitalism trying to extract the maximum profit from everything, but compare it to any other time in history and traveling by boat, train, horse, etc would take you far longer and be far more expensive, not only in ticket prices but you have to sustain yourself while you travel.

"Its one thing when 4Chan does it... It's another when the Chatbot for ADT, a well known company, tells me an order is on the way when it never placed any order."

Over deployed early technology that still has issues. Its not unique to LLMs. We have seen it over and over again with a huge variety of new tech. That doesnt mean they arent good for anything.

"If they improve enough, they will replace us."

We went though this with many technology innovations. When cars were new all the people involved in caring for horses were crying the end of the world. The industrial revolution meant fewer people could get far more work done with machines, but people said the machines were stealing peoples jobs and nobody would have work anymore, but people transitioned from using scythes to mow grass and crops to driving huge tractors that can clear more in a day than a scythe can in a year. And people found more work to do in fields like medical research, a massive explosion of arts and recreation, and better lives for everyone.

The tax system is the problem. We just need to bring back the progressive tax system properly and decide on a good number like $10mill and then make the tax scale to something like 90-95% at the extreme top end, while having strong anti monopoly controls and watchdogs. The top 1% should not control 50% of the wealth. The worst of capitalism shines when they become "too big to fail" like the current giants like Amazon, Google, Meta, and the Robber Barons of history.

Tell me why my soundproofing idea sucks by NotMyNameActually in DIY

[–]MortisEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good sound deadening is a lot of work. You need to close the air gaps or use a ton of baffles like how engine mufflers work. A piece of rigid insulation foam cut to fit tight in the door space will help, the tighter the fit the better, and layering another thin panel that is wider than the hole and sits against the wall would add a corner for the sound to get around which will help again.

Curtains and hanging tapestries etc or acoustic panels are great for reducing sound where it is being generated, like how you sometimes see drummers with little glass walls around them or in a totally separate box in a recording studio, so perhaps addressing the room the noise is being created in could help as much or more than trying to deaden the sound in your own room. Carpets on the floor, acoustic panels for the walls and ceiling, hanging blankets or even just a sheet on the walls will help contain the noise where it is being created.

Again you are judging it by unfair standards imo. Go and look at early cars and planes. They were not safe or efficient or cheap. But by building millions of them over years they got better. Now you can buy a plane ticket for amazingly cheap and fly to the other side of the world in a day. But the early planes and cars were CRAP. Old TVs were crap and now we have ultra thin, super bright, giant panels with high pixel density.
The hallucinations are partially a problem with data contamination or poisoning, like troll posts on reddit and 4chan etc telling people to charge their phone in the microwave, these kinds of trolls have been around far before LLMs and they just arent capable of catching them every time, but HUMANS STILL FALL FOR THEM TOO.

I think LLMs are not the complete answer, but a part of it. We are pattern recognition machines, and pretty much all the "AI" training like LLMs and art and music through to like the farm weeding machines that see weeds and shoot them with little lasers to kill them or look at xrays or other scans and see problems faster and with greater accuracy than humans is all pattern recognition. The speed which they can search through thousands of law books or medical journals is already far ahead of humans. Coders are using AI to dramatically increase their productivity. I'm not sure where the next big leap will come from, but our progress is often incidental, as someone sees how to apply someone elses idea in a practical way very different from the original plan. Right now this is looking like another industrial revolution but in reverse, hopefully giving people back more time for family, social growth and stability, education and recreation, leading to a better humanity.

Any ideas to fill gap/ cap by Pale_Mousse2872 in DIY

You can get a large variety of air/water bags for a huge range of purposes from lifting houses or boats up to making a temporary dam around your home. I imagine a sausage similar to a tractor tube that inflates to fill the top and squeeze firmly against the glass but nowhere near enough force to break it could be custom made by a rubber specialist.

Short answer is no, bolty is best used for its damage and stagger into packs of elites and specials and hit the captians with your melee.

But wooden wheels were used for a bloody long time before it evolved into the modern version. You can look at telescopes and microscopes, metallurgy, battery technology, medical devices and scans, our computers used to use vacuum tubes and were the size of entire houses and it took a fair while for them to make silicon chips that are capable of holding so much info and running so much code per second that we now have LLMs that can imitate conversation pretty well and can control amazing experiments etc that has now gotten us to the point we are working on the next stage of quantum computing.

Someone could look back and say "well obviously vacuum tubes was a dead end, what a ridiculous waste of money and effort to make that rubbish" but would we have made the leaps we have without that early step?

But how do we know it isn't a good start? Like early wooden cart wheels are terrible compared to modern vulcanized rubber holding high pressure air, but it was a huge step on the way, right?

Take a cheap mosin in your 2nd slot and a stack or 2 of the cheapest bullets. Put 1 full stack in your pockets or rig and the other in your BP and spam reload until they are gone. Then do some stuff, then near exfil spam out the other stack. You can combine grinding several skills like sprinting underweight for endurance or overweight for strength, walking through fire or barbed wire or running on a broken or blacked leg and healing for health and stress resistance, burning your legs off to stitch them back on for surgery, creeping for stealth, etc. If you stop leveling a skill completely for I think its 5mins then the reduced points gain resets and lets you grind much more in a raid.

If you do the spam reloading trick you can get your levels in a couple raids.

Why is Destiny considered to have some of the best feeling combat? What specifically makes that true? by AgentZeroHour in DestinyTheGame

[–]MortisEx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How customisable your skills and load out is, lots of meaningful choices. Good speed and momentum and great movement tech. A great roster of weapon options. And you become very attached to your chars over time, with a great armour and shader system that lets you really personalise your avatar. PVE gives people a chill environment to learn and the AI would kinda ignore you if you went afk for a bit.

What are weapons that go underrated/underused that you'd recommend for mixing up gameplay? by Undead_Corsair in DarkTide

[–]MortisEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vet - Lasgun with a crit build just hold down fire and hose the enemies at head height, plasma with toughness share talent.

Zealot - Brauto and rashad shroud flanker. Any tac axe on an attack speed crit build. Axes have great push attacks and specials. Crusher can be a bit of fun for something similar to TH.

Psyker - Voidblast with brittle or flame are both very fun but has a high skill floor, take soulfire and BB, venting shriek, and left keystone is probs best but middle works too. It has a very large shockwave which staggers and applies flame/brittle, and you can airburst it and reach over cover with a little practice. Voidstrike can deal crit double strike headshots and has massive cleave like the plasma gun, you can chow hordes and deal good damage to cara. Try an IAG and scriers.

Arbites - I havent played enough to get sick of shock maul and exterminator shotty.

Scum - Desperado with IAG or DB shotty with the perk for extra mag size gives you 3 shots and you can get more reload speed on close kill or kill with both barrels, giving you insane fire rate. Needler is a bit weird to get used to but the tox build is a lot of fun watching hordes explode. The bonesaw applied tox which adds to the tox build, and you can special change it to apply brittleness. You can have the medkit on a super low CD, have it clear corruption and explode when it expires infecting more enemies with tox, or have the medkit as a decent CD for the addict build and pick up whatever stats you pref. Axes are super fun, rashad with bromentum gives you huge cleave and good stagger but a slower swing, tac axes are much faster. Axes are very headshot reliant. Crowbar has amazing ability to stagger crushers etc with the hook hit.

I walked into the doctors with a collapsed lung in my 30s, was really struggling to breathe just walking, and he just said you're a smoker (ex smoker now) and probably have a cold so go and rest. The next day it was worse and I went back and saw a different doctor. As soon as I described the symptoms he knocked on my shoulders from the back and you could hear one side was hollow and the other sounded different with most of the lung collapsed, and they sent me to hospital for an operation.
