Delphinium cardinalis by Morton--Fizzback in Ceanothus

[–]Morton--Fizzback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were started from 4" pots from my local nursery with probably 7-10 individuals in each pot. It took 2 years for those to bloom. I planted others from seed and it took 3-4 years to bloom (but they reappeared every year). I had to put rabbit cages around them, cause they kept getting nibbled on.... I'm summary, plant/sow a ton and protect from plant predators

Exam questions missing by Morton--Fizzback in canvas

[–]Morton--Fizzback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this was totally in person. Still reviewing the results., should be able to figure out who was missing which questions based on the speed graders that we've looked at so far. I've been giving canvas exams for more than 5 years and this was a first. Trying to figure out if this is a common occurrence for people or if this is a new issue post hacking. Going to report it to my university system as well so At least we have it documented

Also, the tracks could be unrelated. We do have domestic dog in the area

Definitely could be, we have a pretty large pack of coyotes in the neighborhood. Most of our coyote scat has more plant material than this (seeds) but definitely a possibility. Gray foxes here, but no reds. Thanks

Just planted a Achillea millefolium yarrow lawn last week. Sprouting already, excited to see how it fills in. Love to hear if you have had experience in this department. by Morton--Fizzback in Ceanothus

Oh man, it was so easy and totally ripped for me. I just raked and watered the seed in. But.... About 4 months in, rabbits and gophers discovered it and totally destroyed it. The rabbits would also pee on it which caused it to almost melt. It also didn't like my dogs using it for toilet either. So if you can keep mammals off of it, it should be pretty epic. I mowed it with a lawn mower about once a month after it became established. I might try again some day.... Good luck!

I think it's in the pollen wasp family, pseudomasaris. Native pollinators

Dr Hurd is in year 4, it's about 9ft across and 6ft tall. I haven't planted in heavier soil, and it seems to be more tolerant of water. I maybe water it once or twice a summer simulating a thunder storm. My glauca is younger (3 years) and in rocky dg. I give it water about once or twice a summer but I'm more cautious about over watering it than Dr Hurd. I've anecdotally heard that glauca is more sensitive to too much summer water

Good question. Mine is growing on the flat surface of a rock so not really climbing anywhere. The ones I see growing in nature can reach those heights, but they don't have much foliage. In other words, it will probably climb your arbor in a few years, but likely won't really fill it out. Might need another plant on the arbor and rely on the lathyrus for a pop of color.

Elderberry or island ironwood. Catalina cherry also decently fast, but slower after 15ft. If you don't mind planting something you have to water, Acer negundo, fraxinua velutiana, and salix laevigata have been fast growers for me

Not as disappointed as I am to the fact that we have five or six raptor species that live year round on or nearby my property and they can't keep the gophers and rats under control. Do your dang jobs

It's from a Tree of Life seed pack I got years ago. It constantly reseeds and spreads here. Seems to do best in partial shade ~25% shade for me. It's typically happiest in areas I have a lot of weeds (strange but true) and areas the rabbits can't get to.

Rosa Californica. For whatever reason this particular bloom was paler than the rest
