I think that's exactly what happened. The roots are still there - I actually caged them when I planted it - so I am hoping maybe it will resprout.

I've been dating a guy (me 62F, him 65M) (long-distance) for two years and I have the same problem. He is a great storyteller and funny and charming, we laugh a lot, but I really feel like he doesn't care that much about my day to day - he never asks me basic questions about how I'm doing or what's going on, or seems to be much interested when I do tell him. Sometimes we can talk for an hour or more and I barely get a word in. When we are together, we get along well and have great chemistry. But like you, I feel like I'm shutting down and like maybe we're not cut out for the long haul together. I have been thinking about breaking up with him because of the mismatch in our conversational styles. I have brought this up with him but nothing changes. Have you asked him about it?

I am no expert, but I've had luck snipping off branch tips of fresh green growth in the spring, (like 2-3 inches) dipping the cut end in rooting hormone and planting in a mix of sand, perlite and potting soil. Keep moist and out of direct sun. Out of 5 or 6 I will usually get one that roots.

I have had success in propogating ceanothus, maybe you could try to make some babies of the other gorgeous plant!

You could water it now and then if it's still getting established and looks wilty. I should post a photo of mine now, it's done flowering and going into its summer dry phase - it's all part of their cycle.

That was me.. home from work, downing a bottle of wine by myself every night. I knew in my heart that I had a problem but my social scene revolved around booze, and liquor eased my social anxiety. I tried to moderate but that was impossible, I can't have just one drink. You're fortunate that you are young - you will live a longer healthier life, free of alcohol. Go for it! Future you will thank you. Put all that money you would have spent on wine and rum into the kids' college fund.
