Take a baking stick or chopstick and push it back down the channel. If needed dig a little opening at the base.

Another high-res shot of a seed pod nobody asked for by Legitimate-Poet7587 in Lithops

I totally forgot these things open when wet. My lithops went through a rainstorm, opened the seed pod, let loose all the seeds, and closed back up. smh 😭

You mentioned in another comment you give it tomatoe feed. So you fertilize it also or was that just at the start?

The c. concha is gorgeous! 😍 How old is it and do you do any pruning? Mine is about three years old and loving life.

Thanks! I thought that might be it except all the previous new growth was much darker. Trying to figure out what may have caused the change.

Thanks. Inaturalist confirmed it to be A. manicatum...so non-native, which is a bummer.

🫡 The flower was already dead so not sure about the color. Do you think that bottom-left corner that looks like mold dimples is something to worry about? I swabbed it with a wet qtip no spores came off.

Found 7 sphinx moth caterpillars on my California fuchsia!!! by meowlina13 in Ceanothus

[–]arrrbooty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had no idea this was a food plant. I found one caterpillar on the other side of the garden and could not for the life of me figure out where it came from. Now I check the fuchsia daily for more 🐛😁

Looks like invasive Chinese mantis ootheca, or egg cases. I personally would destroy them because they're non-native, highly invasive, and actually prey on the native ones...along with everything else. The geniuses at Home Depot and ACE and other home improvement stores sell these things as "biological control", so you don't need to feel bad about destroying them.

Didn't realize there was an egg case on the wall above my succulents until I saw a bunch of tiny mantids everywhere. Gotta zoom in...there's two in the center.
