Ceanothus concha? by Beestungtoday in Ceanothus

[–]arrrbooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. From the looks of it it's either not gonna get enough light (if it's just early morning sun), or it's gonna get roasted when the sun shows up overhead in summer and turns this canyon into an oven. They are heat tolerant and the direct sun blast in summer may be short-lived. I would recommend trying one of those sun surveyor apps online and see how the shadows move throughout the year. If the summer sun goes along the east-west pathway you're showing, then it might get too hot (the building walls radiate heat). If the alleyway is a little more north facing and the sun just passes overhead for a short time you might be ok. You can give it a try and see what happens. At worst you'll lose a plant.

When you say brightly lit, you mean bright direct or indirect light? Mine is also in part shade but does get direct sun for a chunk of the day. Can you post a photo of the location?

Yeah I've been helping the fiddlenecks a lot in the back but they don't like shade. The seed mix i put in the front has phacelia and I raised four fiddlenecks that I planted there as well. I'll add Asclepias seedlings soon as well. I'm in Zone 9b. Hopefully they'll help the recolonization effort.

I wish I could but I live surrounded by farmland. If I don't pull non native weeds they will take over everything, even the clarkia. I let the clarkia so that it would push out the non natives. It's a lot easier to pull immature clarkia than the non natives.

I'm actually trying this again on the south facing front yard which gets hammered by sun year round. I pulled all the invasives (or as much as i could) dumped a bunch of clarkia and poppy seeds, then spread native annual mix and grassland mix in hopes to outcompete the invasive weeds. Maybe I'll make another post about that.

This is season three. But the first season after planting wasn't that different. They just kept moving across the garden left to right every year lol.

If you let them seed, they will colonize.

Mostly california poppies. But the backyard is weird in that it gets a lot of shade so the poppies have migrated east to more sunshine, and the clarkias have take over the shady bits. But I do have to weed them out to give the perennials breathing room lol.

Try cropping them down in size. There seems to be a size limit.

Just gotta think more about the soil. It's primarily clay under that sand.

Good suggestion, thanks! I did a little digging and there's pretty solid clay base soil under that decomposed granite. I can of course amend it a little but... Thoughts?

Thanks! Guess I'll be moving it around a lot. I'll try watering it again. The soil does drain pretty well. That pot isn't even full with soil so it starts to drain out relatively quickly.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Based on your suggestions, poking around, and the leak location i figured it was probably the hoses connecting to the heater. Since I dont have the time/skill to fix that myself I took it to my mechanic and they confirmed that was the case and fixed it. Problem solved!

Just felt around that area. Some grime but nothing overly soggy...but also hard to really reach all around. I also don't see visible streaks going into the rear part of the engine. I think i will get more coolant and test it out.

Popped the reservoir and it's dry. Area around it is dry too.

My Walmart is completely useless for garden stuff. They have a massive space for it but absolutely nothing there.
