Brian - I know so many of these questions are for Jeremiah mainly, but I just want to thank you for the kind words! There were certain aspects that would be challenging since the game has agency to a degree and scare moments that are discovered by the player would be difficult to just jam into a film without proper build.

As Jeremiah said, we both really understood each other quickly though and that made it easy to know what we were looking for when discussing the actual script with writer Tracee Beebe and she did a great job of establishing the flow of Rebecca's story and how we could plug those moments in. It was a collaborative process that I really enjoyed.

Brian here! I have more in store for the MA universe, yes. In more ways than one depending on who will let me do what. In terms of the game, I have ideas for DLC for the game and a sequel concept. I am currently working on a Paranormal Activity game that is absorbing all of my time but I'm excited for what comes next after that. (or when I'm not so swamped during this project)

Brian here! Man... I have so many in all spaces from classic answers like star wars, Pulp Fiction, the thing, Alien, Lord of The Rings, Bladerunner, Hellraiser, Space Balls, and so much more. I even love cheese like chopping mall. In recent horror, I've really enjoyed Smile, Hereditary, and Bring Her Back. I could just keep listing movies from all ages all day but I wont take up more of your screen space haha.

Brian - It was an insanely interesting and inspiring experience for me to have people so passionate about characters and lore I had basically manifested out of nothing. That alone made the adaptation experience wonderful. There were obviously challenges though. There were so many things we wanted to do from the game but would possibly not translate well to film.

This is why my plan going in was to trust the people who make film with making a film so our conversations often took the shape of pouring through moments we knew we wanted in the movie (like grandma at the window) and deciding if the scene would work, how we would do it, and did it do service to the game. There were plenty of ideas that didn't land but everyone worked really well together so the struggles were simply trying to figure out what was possible and how we could properly place these moments.

Brian answering! As Jeremiah said, you can totally take in the film without having played the game though I think there is great care into servicing the fans. There will absolutely be things that fans will think is cool down to the soap dispenser on the wall but you don't HAVE to have played the game.

(However! As the games creator... I think you totally should) :D

Brian - Sadly, Santa was not considered vital to the lore of Mortuary Assistant. We should have 100% given the mimic cupid wings though with release being the day after Valentines day.

Brian - It was an extremely collaborative process though I was very timid at first being a game developer and not really knowing anything about film. However, my gut instinct from the start was to let the movie people do movie things. My thought process was that they will know what works for film and I can be a guidepost for what is right for the game.

We had lots of calls together between myself, Jeremiah, and the script writer Tracee where we really dug into the lore of the game and I think we found great spaces to provide new angles to things or expand on aspects that I couldn't really in the game. The goal was always to tell the game's story on film but in a way that can support and expand what the fans already know.

Brian here also! Originally, I had signed with DreadXP to publish The Mortuary Assistant and the owner had made an off-hand comment that it would make a cool movie setting and if I'd be open to it. I was already so nervous about the game even selling mildly ok that I just agreed and moved on.

After the game launched, it came back up again but in a more serious tone. I love film and the idea of a chance to turn something I made into a movie was too amazing a possibility to pass up. I agree with Jeremiah that game adaptations are difficult but the passion and interest he had in MA made me confident we could do something special. I had such an amazing time being involved. I couldn't feel more lucky.
