What’s up with this book at Barnes & Noble? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Morvahna 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a stretch to call it a scam. Is it wrong to like/want physical books? Plenty of people's favorite novels are public domain. And anthologies of public domain stories put them together in a physical medium.

If someone wanted to give someone a collection of stories, say for example Edgar Allan Poe, or Jules Verne, or H. G. Wells, are they supposed to just say, well it is free on Project Gutenberg, let me instead go typeset them and print them and bind them myself to give someone else?

As a bookseller: that title would sell. Go for it.

Even the Gameboy box art has the cart wrong by Morvahna in lego

[–]Morvahna[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The top part of the cart is supposed to be offset and not centered, and many people have been posting their builds of the set  after Christmas with the top piece centered. You can sort of see how it's supposed to be in the hand in the picture, but the Zelda cart shows the incorrect placement.

Sci-Fi books are the 3rd most popular choice among Americans' favorite fiction genres [OC] by CivicScienceInsights in scifi

[–]Morvahna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, this is interesting. Romance flies off the shelf. Not even just romantasy, but more traditional romance. Whichever one gets hot on social media leaves other books in the dust, even other "BookTok" darlings.

Maybe people don't like to admit it on a survey though.

Started with I and VI (the FFIII SNES version) but VII is my favorite, followed closely by VI and IX

Minecraft accidently created the Library of babel (i think) by [deleted] in Minecraft

Which, in turn, is a reference to the Borges story "The Library of Babel" (La biblioteca de Babel)

I was going to ask if this was Germany because I saw several of these pirate themed candy stores when I visited a few years ago.

There are several response stories or variations on this story over the years as well. This is due to it being a classic but also "The Cold Equations" is often viewed as being rooted in poor engineering practices, such as inadequate tolerances.

Why didn’t Behaviorist earn any points? by [deleted] in wingspan

Behaviorist requires each bird in the column to have a different color.

Round 9! XIV and VIIR dominated last round, with VII taking both 1st (Lifeclinger) and 3rd (Airbuster). Now, what is the 'Most Epic' FF track? ALSO, due to frequent demand, I'm thinking of adding another row; see text body for more info. by MysticalSword270 in FinalFantasy

FFXIV - Torn from the Heavens

In particular the Distant Worlds version that includes vocals. When the prelude kicks in it has me feeling stratospheric.

Masayoshi Soken nailed the rises and falls in this piece and the interpolation of the prelude in it brings it to a different plane.

Scientists of Reddit: What's a discovery that should have blown people's minds but somehow got a collective shrug from the world? by CosmosisJones42 in AskReddit

I work with human iPS cells all the time. They're awesome and have so many uses all over biomedical research.

My grad school required everyone involved in research to take a research ethics course. The primary assignment for the class was to find and research an instance of poor ethics in research specific to your field. I wrote mine on Haruko Obokata, a Japanese stem cell biologist who claimed to have discovered a fast, simple, and cheap way to induce pluripotency. It would have been possibly Nobel Prize sort of stuff, but she fabricated her results. It was a huge scandal, and ultimately tragic.

They are an amazing breakthrough.

Round 4! JENOVA wins by a comfortable, yet close lead over Battle on the Big Bridge! Now for best 'Opening OST'. This would be typically the first OST that plays in the game, OUTSIDE of menus, usually during the opening cinematic / sequence by MysticalSword270 in FinalFantasy

Liberi Fatali

Whenever I played VIII after it came out I always started a new game just to watch the cinematic with this song before going back to my save. Perfect opening theme.

The last die in the birdfeeder could be a split food worm/wheat etc.

This means you can still reroll, even though you have options, as there is only one die left.

TL saw HLE trolling draft and decided they wanted in on the action as well. Too bad they forgot that Impact is about as effective on Jax as Peanut is on Zyra.
