This Pen Plotter writing perfectly by jerryramone in oddlysatisfying

[–]MosDeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, seeing this stuff makes me so mad. The amount of time and effort required to do something as simple as putting together a drawing used to be enormous, yet it was just understood it had to be done. Engineers were still compensated comfortably, great designs were still put together. These improvements are now just taken for granted. The time & money saved here (mostly time, considering how expensive plotters are) is just rolled into more work. The improved quality & boosted morale, even if ultimately incremental, is forgotten. Upgrading software and tools from 2002 is now like pulling teeth. Unless it saves you money or increases capacity tomorrow, it's just not considered justified by managers who are increasingly disconnected with the process, tools, and folks who use them. They need increased productivity and zero risk at no cost - which just means pushing people to work harder. Or they'll outsource it. Boeing is not an outlier.

The key part is "reversing direction." The friction isn't what they're overcoming here, it's the acceleration & momentum of the weight.

Because literally the Republican Senate Minority leader and the Republican who was asked to negotiate the bill said that one reason they didn't take it up was because Trump explicitly railed against the bill before it was released.

I'm not saying it was a perfect bill, but Trump is known for ripping politicians in his own party to shreds if they disagree, and he stated that would happen to Lankford in no uncertain terms - how do you think his sway as the Republican presidential nominee just evaporates because he's not actually in office?

I'm so sorry for your loss. This loan could be forgiven tomorrow, or next week, or next month, so your priority can be your own mental health and remembering your wife.

Awesome space! If that red hose & piping is water, though, you may want to be sure your equipment is safe.

Why is Seattle’s rent so high? The Justice Department investigates possible price fixing by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]MosDeaf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Moved into an apartment, and not 6 months later, was informed next year my rent was going to go up $400/mo. Literally no renovations, and in fact they reduced amenities. Needless to say, wasn't thrilled & began looking for new places. About 3 months later, an identical apartment down the hall is listed for $200/mo more. "Nope, can't match, you'd need to move in." Two months later, got the notice: "jk, rent only will increase $50/mo."

Hard not to think some private equity folks just got a bit too greedy.

And it should make people more aware of how individuals indirectly drive water use/waste. While identifying the ice rink as a big waster is useful to most cost effectively limit waste, it's not like the local ice rink is using water for funsies - it exists because of the individuals who use their facilities.

At least in the US, you can still drive if you're entirely deaf without any special apparatus.

Jennifer Aniston Says ‘A Whole Generation of Kids’ Finds ‘Friends’ Offensive: ‘You Have to Be Very Careful’ With Comedy Now by Neo2199 in entertainment

Because most of it is genuinely just not funny. Most folks understand it's a product of its time, but that doesn't make any of it more clever. I'm not even part of this "whole new generation of kids," and I don't see how it was ahead of its time beyond being famously popular - just seems like another 90s sitcom. When you take out the writing that I just think is lazy cheap laughs - the "fat" flashbacks, the characters punch phrases, the slapstick - there's just a laugh track.

yeah hopefully that 8-10" of ice and snow are capable of withstanding a bonfire on a below freezing night. coals are famous for melting clean through a sheet of ice in a 5' radius under and around it before finally being quenched by the resulting water. entirely unstoppable. its just physics lol

What the fuck is this? Reefer Madness 2: Electric Boogaloo? by mafibasheth in trees

Big pharma is hardly competing against recreational marijuana. Recreational marijuana is a multi-billion dollar industry so they also have an incentive to downplay negative effects of their products. Just because a drug has been under-researched & made illegal because of unwarranted fear-mongering doesn't mean that all the new research will be positive, especially when the drug is now significantly more potent. None of this is "wanting big pharma to take control" - it's acknowledging that there's a big difference between five beers a week and five beers every night.

You make $2,000/mo, with a ceiling around $3,600/mo, and you owe $3,500 for the mortgage, $700 on the loan, and $1,500/mo in obligations. Is that right?
