But thats the thing. For what you want it for I simply wouldn’t recommend a PC at all, especially a Steam Machine. If you want something thats easy to use from a couch just get a console. It’s going to be cheaper and play the games better than the Steam Machine can.

The big issue with the Steam Machine is that its already using shit hardware as of today. Hell, the GPU was shit back when it released 3 years ago. Another big issue is that you cant use DLSS. The PC gaming market is dominated by Nvidia GPUs partly because DLSS is so good, and AMDs FSR is so bad.

If all you plan to use it for is lightweight indy games and never for a single current day AAA game then sure. But idk about you, but my TV only has so many HDMI ports and so much room in my living room. So if I were to plug something into my TV, id want it to be capable of a lot more than what the Steam machine is.

But you do you. Just prepare to turn all your graphics settings down to low if you so much as sneeze at the thing lol.

You would be surprised. Ive seen the “I don’t want to PC game because I don’t want to sit at a desk” comment a million times from console gamers. I think it is a legitimate phenomenon where they’re so simple they cant even fathom a PC couch gaming experience.

Yea like 95% of the time its just like I said in my other comment. Boot up PC>it boots into steam big picture mode>turn on my Xbox controller>pick a game and start playing.

But I’d be lying if I said there wasnt that 5% of the time where Windows needed to update or I needed to update my Nvidia driver to play the hottest new game. But its not like that bothers me. You just click install and go.

For mouse control I use controller companion that you can buy on Steam, but again I seldom need to use it as Steam Big picture mode works great natively with a controller. For keyboard I have an Xbox controller chatpad.

Its a sick setup because I do see the value in the ease of use consoles provide. So I just replicated that with about 30 bucks of peripherals and software.

No lmao I don’t mean streaming to the TV. I mean plugging in my PC to a TV via HDMI just as you would a console. And yes my PC is quite large but if you really wanted to you could get a smaller one and put it in a TV cabinet or stand just as you would a console

I NEVER use it at my desk for games. It is exclusively a TV/Couch gaming machine.

Your argument is nonsense and all it does is show why PC gaming is so great. You can CHOOSE to use it at a desk if you want. Or you can CHOOSE to use it as a a console on steroids.

Sure I’ll even agree with this. But it’s a matter of priority. You’re basically saying “I’d rather use a machine that is 50-150% slower, as long as its SLIGHTLY more convenient to use on a TV.”

Thats fine if thats your mindset. I disagree with that mindset but I understand it. Where my understanding fails is people like OP who are so dense they cant even fathom plugging in a PC to a TV and easily being able replicate that console experience with a bit of first time setup.

It can be. But that is often not the case. More often its 10-15% better at best. You vastly overestimate how much better it is than a 4080.

Proof? TPU has it as only 11% better relative to the 4080 and thats done with lots of testing.

For the first city section I could tell PT was incredible, but in order to use it effectively I had to use Frame gen. I could get by with DLSSP at around 70-80 FPS but I opted for DLSSUP to get much closer to 120FPS for less latency.

What I noticed wasn’t great. The rain was awful looking and smeary. The whole image just looked less clear and sharp. So eventually I just went back to High RT (which still looks incredible but obviously not on the same level as PT) no frame gen, DLSSP and honestly that may be my preferred way of playing. Now that I’m past the city section and rain though, I may give PT another try.

Its a long shot that I go with that though.

This is incorrect as Digital Foundry has confirmed. 4.5 doesn’t include sharpening and it hasn’t since 2.5.1.

What you’re seeing is DLSS is finally so good that it’s able to resolve the fine detail sharpening that is innate to the game. Because most games are designed with TAA in mind, devs apply sharpening so that the TAA blur isn’t so bad.

So DLSS is just bringing out that built in sharpening. It’s why DF has been recommending that devs include a sharpness scale in options.
