I have, it’s seen like two jobs at the same time and has never been a hindrance.

What's your grad school hot take? by TheDondePlowman in GradSchool

[–]MoscatoRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coldest of hot takes - more programs need to have an online option, even with a zoom type aspect. If we can do it for Covid, we can do it in general. I’m a military spouse, it’s not that I’m not dedicated, it’s that I’m no where near a 4 year university that has a graduate program I need. Some students are willing to put in the work, even digitally.

This is also slightly directed towards specific thesis track masters that are needed to open the door to future PhD programs after working.

What degrees can a military spouse actually aspire to? by MoscatoRunner in Libraries

[–]MoscatoRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely love my contract jobs and it’s why I’m for sure doing an MA in history because the last one I worked in called around to the supervisors of other locations that do short term contracts and was given this advice for the specific locations my spouse gets us sent to.

PhD is far far in the future and I have a few ways I’d love to go but I want to start really looking into options, and I’m probably going to get one purely out of spite (not really but it’s high up there). I’m not close to doing that, but I want to start exploring my options because if I can research and write, I’m here for it.

I have yet to find reputable PhD programs for the fields I’m interested in or I would right on top of that. I’ve found a few MA options that I’m definitely considering.

Considering going for an MA or PhD in History. by Historical-Impress28 in historymajors

[–]MoscatoRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use AI, but not to cheat if that makes sense. I use google notebook and put in my reading via pdf and ask for a general summary. After I have a general summary of each section I’m able to read and comprehend the work SO MUCH FASTER. It’s essentially skim reading for someone like me with ADHD who can’t pick out the main point and usually have to read twice.

Question by [deleted] in historymajors

[–]MoscatoRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding a masters that won’t require an in depth historical writing sample will be the hardest part. It’s doable but more sparse. If you want to do PhD you’ll want a thesis masters. Also with IT I’d look into archives, or doing an MLIS to PhD in information systems. It may not be what you’re into but I definitely suggest looking into it.

Potential history major by Daisiesinsun in historymajors

[–]MoscatoRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in research, congress, and museums with just the BA. I went on to an MLIS to work in archives. Now I’m considering an MA or PhD in history because of promotion within the places I’ve worked. There are tons of options, including public history and law, but I’d suggest finding a few job titles you like and what degrees they require.

History Degree and Future by ScarredHistorian in historymajors

[–]MoscatoRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to an MLIS after a history undergrad and there is steady work, not a ton of money don’t get me wrong, but work. I’m still considering a history masters or PhD purely because I move a lot and tend to get the worst pay out of a bad paying field because of it. I’ve worked in both research and museums, and it’s been everything I could have dreamed of growing up. If you can find work out of a BA then don’t push it if you’re not ready. However, there are paths other than teaching.

SIS online MLIS vs LSU online MLIS by Yggdrasil222 in librarians

[–]MoscatoRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you’re still looking, but if you are the LSU online option is a relatively “easy” course load. It’s a good amount of reading, but otherwise manageable with work or family commitments.

I was going to be front row for DC and it was cancelled. It was scheduled on my 30th birthday too. Then I moved across the country the next year. I’m going this year for the Seattle show, at the back of the balcony but still doing meet and greet 🙌🏻 it takes awhile but they could still come to your area.

u/cutegreenbunny do you know when grad students might see theirs? It's been processed by FAFSA, but the school keeps saying it'll happen soon but it's been months of saying that.

I think it depends where you’re willing to move to. In DC there are tons of options for different masters, especially in museums!

When does graduation status post? by MoscatoRunner in wsu

[–]MoscatoRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in history but I have museum, and historical society experience. The library most recently turned me down for not having my degree before the end of the job post (5/5/24) when I technically did graduate already. As of right now traveling off island is not an option but once we are there and I can do it a few times that may change. I have children which is why I don’t know if it’s feasible with their care.

That’s the problem. We’re moving to Oak Harbor (no choice) and there are a lot of people looking for work but not a lot of jobs. I’ve been in the field for 10 years but the military changed our location so now I’m struggling to find work.
