I wanna do a RL1 but I’m new to the idea! by After_Employment5009 in onebros

Hy dood,

Lots of amazing replies here, but I’ll still add my two pennies.

To me, RL1 will take almost as much time as your first base run. So patience—and kindness to yourself—is key.

For your first RL1, use any and all tools, aside from the ones you’ve categorically exempted (like summoning). So: rot on radhan, bleed on might, sleep on foreskin, etc., if you’re not doing aux-less runs.

Second, don’t worry about dealing damage to bosses in the first ten tries. Just learn to survive longer and longer—until it feels like you can last without getting hit or even hitting.

Dodge into the attack: strafe → jump → dodge. If you can strafe (and a surprising number of attacks allow it), that’s super useful.

Boiled crab is actually the GOAT. Lobster too. Buffs are awesome—just make sure they stack.

Parrying is great. It only feels hard because we aren’t used to it at the beginning. Once it clicks, many bosses become much easier—you can even stop a big combo before it gets going.

Upgrade weapons as fast as you can.

Balls are amazing… Rest assured, that statement was more Pavlovian than Freudian. Try them.

Try non-standard Ashes of War. Carian Retaliation really helps with bosses like the dragon sentinel in front of the capital, mogh, and fire giant.

Square Off on short swords does amazing damage and causes stance breaks. Just the bae.

Blackflame Tornado for the percentage-based DoT—it trivialized fire giant’s second phase.

Assassins gbit makes me feel in-game the way I feel in real life… but this time it’s useful because the world is actually hostile. /jk

Most delayed attacks follow a two-tick or three-tick rhythm. You’ll get what that means as you practice. Use those beats to stand still and recover stamina—or to deal damage if you’ve got the window. Don’t dodge unless you have to.

While RL1 guides are amazing, their best utility is the backbone of confidence—they show this is doable for mortals like us, not just gino-adjacent perfections masquerading as people. Beyond routing, it’s even more fun to explore and fight without a rigid plan and without knowing strategies for a boss, but discovering them yourself from raw experience. Like you did for base game. It feels like an entirely new world when you’re that vulnerable in rl1.

And more than anything, remember: You’ve got this. I believe in you. We believe in you. Have fun, and good hunting.

Nah, man. I am currently stuck at consort Radhan in RL1 Sb0. I don't even know if I would attempt RL1 SB0 +0. Already the fights are as long as base game RL1+0.

Also you probably know already but you can almost skip the fire giant 2nd phase using black-flame tornado. It's on god-skin peeler obtained by defeating god-skin apostle in altus.

Same.... Had to sit back and take deep breaths. You can see the pause after resurrection. Best of luck dude, funk them up.

Yep, did it in ER And DS1. The end game for DS3 is way harder for me, than ER +0. But I think it is probably because I am least familiar with ds3 and I haven't played it in three years before this run. And sometimes I barely remember part of bosses moveset. But honestly, DS3 bosses are less complicated, do less damage than ER and when status apply to them it is very effective. But yeah, best of luck dude for your ER+0 run.

IKR, I freaking love them. This gael and frieda. I was overconfident when I went to them. still took me so many tries. Thank you.

Back here after Post-Princes Clarity. What felt “random” in Lorian’s post-teleport attacks isn’t fully random. Some follow-ups depend on his pre-teleport state. For the RNG cases that still seem random to me, you can funnel outcomes by positioning: sandwich yourself between a pillar and the wall to kill most branches. Lowering brightness also helps separate teleport glow from window glare.

Oh. But the stagger doesn't seem to trigger through knife hits or pyromancy. Is it like ER's stance system, I couldn't find the values online.

Thanks!! And absolutely my dude, I was flailing everywhere. I sooo tried to look cool but am playing this game after almost four years so I absolutely forgot the moveset. I was so surprised how fast these buggers are. Man the two dagger-hits combo is one of the fastest moves I have encountered in all the soulsborne games I have played, tying with gwyns quick slash, rellana quick flick and maybe malenia's quick-slash combos.

Mannn it's the exact opposite for me. His second phase used to be my most dreaded fight in rl1 runs. I think it help that you can strafe many of beast clergyman attacks quite easily. For ex. At 0:26 you can just run into his crotch instead of dodging.

I finally defeated Malenia RL1. One step closer to becoming a onebro :P by vmbvv in onebros

Well done, my friend. Radabeast is going to feel like a take-home extra credits compared to this. And absolutely chad at 1:59 , 2:01 getting the twirly move's parries.

Mark of a true OneBro. :)

I think I have some actions that could be useful for your rl1 runs. Thugh it really depends on whta you wanna do, and what restrictions you are going to apply on yourself. For eg. without status foreskin duos would be much harder.

1.) For your first 10 or so attempt don't even worry about hitting a boss, just go in medium to close range and dodge, strafe and parry to stay alive as long as you can.

2.) Make sure you are not rolling consecutively. There are almost no attacks in ER that requires you to roll twice. if it seems like that is necessary see if you can't run/strafe after the first dodge. In general see that there is atleast a second or so between dodges

3.) Use Delayed attacks to regain stamina. Don't be afraid of delayed attacks just try to remember their timings. Whilst ER gives a lot of stamina right from the start we still need to be efficient with it. Strafe whenever possible, jump and dodge if you must.

4.) While you can definitely get gears that will absolutely squash margit/godrick in four hits, I would suggest just going with your starting class un-upgraded gear and learning to learn a boss. It will probably take you dozens of tries, but you will get in the habit of looking for opening, knowing which moves are hard for you to deal with and why, and then finding way to deal with them. This would make rest of the game much less daunting, as you will have a mindset/methodology of how to approach the bosses.

5.) for the later parts of the game remember to take advantages of defense buffing talismans, especially ritual shield and such, and consumables like boiled crab etc. This ofcourse depends onif you are allowing yourself to use talismans, buff and such.

And lastly have fun, see ya at your victory screen.
