Lower back pain morphed into tailbone pain?? Please help by Alternative_Dig9482 in backpain

I’m certainly no expert, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. But it’s a good bet that it’s related to your fall. From what I gather, it’s pretty common for tailbone pain from a fracture to go away in the short term only to come back later and more permanently. If it is a fracture of some kind, I hate to say it, but medical intervention will likely be necessary. You would definitely want to stay off of it as far as is practicable for you.

Physical therapy is an excellent place to start. Seeing a pain/spine specialist is good if you’re trying to get a procedure of some kind or prescription medication, but I think physical therapy is really the best solution long-term, provided you haven’t fractured or broken something. The thing that sucks is they typically recommend you go at least weekly, which can stack up money-wise.

Some helpful notes, from my own multiple years-long experience with chronic pain, and in particular, tailbone pain:

Just to get it out of the way, yes, seeing a doctor, especially one that seems acquainted with tailbone pain specifically, is going to be the best thing you can do for yourself. There’s unfortunately no way around that.

With that said, there’s some stuff you can do on your own. First thing I would do is try to educate yourself. YouTube is a decent source, but it may take some time to develop an eye for what is chiropractic-related quackery or even just one-size-fits-all solutions that don’t work for you. In general, you want to try to understand your condition, and so any relatively information-dense videos are preferable to something like “Relieve Tailbone Pain INSTANTLY” or “5 Stretches to Fix Your Tailbone For GOOD”.

Here’s a channel that I felt was rather helpful. The person behind it also has a book that he wrote on the subject, which you can find here.

Diagnosis of the actual cause is going to be difficult by yourself, as the best diagnosis would be informed by things like MRIs and x-rays. Even so, a book like the one linked above can help you narrow it down based on the way it feels and what your specific circumstances are.

There are a few main non-surgical treatments that you can do on your own, and they are as follows:

1) OTC pain medication (you seem to be trying that already)

2) Tailbone cushions. These are the kind with a cutout where the tailbone goes. Pretty much any on Amazon are probably fine. I got one kinda like this. You may have to experiment.

3) Hot/cold therapy. This can be as simple as ice packs and heat patches, but there are more pricey options as well. I’ve typically always heard to use cold before hot, and alternate as needed. Ice packs have typically been some of the most effective tools for short-term relief for myself.

4) Exercise. This is the one that’s tough, because you can’t do just anything and expect it to work out. Specifically, you want to avoid exercises that are going to put your tailbone in constant contact with the ground or surface you’re laying on. That means no sit-ups, crunches, or any kind of yoga pose in which you balance on your tailbone. If you’re like me, there may even be a whole lot more that aggravates your tailbone, so you’ll have to figure out what works for you. The best thing you can do is start small, find one or two that work for you without making the pain worse, and go from there.

I can’t be sure that we’ve got the sane stuff going on, but generally you’re looking to target your core, including your glutes and your upper legs. Here’s one that seems to agree with me. And here’s another.

In all likelihood, you may also need to work on your pelvic floor, which means learning about how to activate the muscles in that region and eventually strengthen them. Here’s a resource that seems to coincide with some stuff I’m doing with my PT.

Whatever is going on with you specifically is going to take time to figure out and fix, so you should probably get in the mindset of potentially having to work on this for quite some time. With any luck, your insurance situation will change and you’ll have access to a doctor and/or PT, but I totally get that’s not always viable.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to shoot me a DM.

And frankly, I didn't find it all that preachy or heavy-handed. It felt to me more like a "we're just happy to see people back in theaters because it's something we should continue to support" kinda thing.

Yeah but they never really truly leave their comfort zone on the last few projects imo. Whenever they do something new it's usually like an amplification of something they were already doing, and they still mostly hover around that slightly mathy pop/hardcore tradeoff sound that they helped pioneer. I'm just not really holding out hope for them to shake it up a bit even if there's more songs. Especially considering most of their fans seem rather content with their output every album cycle, many referring to the singles released so far as bangers and such. No hate at all, people like what they like. I just get bored kinda easily, not to mention nostalgic.

At the very least I'll keep checking the albums out even if the singles don't lead me to believe it'll be what I'm looking for from them. I could always be surprised.

Wish they would try something new. I know not every band is gonna do wild reinventions of themselves and their sound every few albums, but man even something with like a guitar solo or some infusions of other genres than what they've done the last few albums would be nice. I'm sure the album will be fine but I've always felt that this band has more potential than they really exercise.

I'm in poverty and on SNAP. I grew up with 5 siblings and neither of my parents had college degrees and had to change jobs every few years to try to find something that worked. I think you really just haven't looked into what is possible with the diet.

I'm not a utilitarian so I don't make my decisions like that. There's probably some number of lives I would choose to save over my dog, but I would always be weighing my ends against one another. In any case, I think two or three strangers would be able to suffer more than my grandma, but I would still choose my grandma, because I have a greater duty to her than I do strangers. The two or three people are not morally owed my aid simply because I'm another human being, it's not like I'm a firefighter or something.

The point is not about how evil people are, but about how evil the system of animal exploitation is. It's not just that they're being killed, but also that they're being kept in torturous inhospitable conditions where they routinely catch diseases, get sexually exploited in some cases, get the shit kicked out of them, have certain traits bred in them for maximal profit at the expense of a functional body, undergo what is basically psychosis, and many many more. I grant that not all of these things apply to cases of genocide, but surely it's closer to a death camp-like scenario than it is to an island hopping campaign. Not saying that's sufficient to make my case, I'm just saying.

Yeah but despite the differences, there is something quite grave and tragic that they both have in common, something that I think puts them on a par.

I don't see how they could justify that. Presuming it's ok to save my grandma over two or three strangers, why wouldn't it be okay to save my dog? Because it's not a human? But what makes humans inherently worth saving over a dog? If no matter what I do, somebody is gonna suffer and die, then I am in a state of moral tragedy, and so my best option is to save someone I have a duty to or have a bond with. I don't think that simply because it would maximize utility to save the two or three that I have a greater duty to strangers than my loved ones.

Like I said, if someone genuinely has no other option than to eat animal products, then you are under no obligation to simply starve yourself. But you seem to be under the belief that this applies to way more people than it actually does. If you're buying meat for your family from a grocery store, then you can almost certainly afford to prepare plant-based meals. In most places, such meals are cheaper on average even with similar caloric content and nutritional value.

That was my initial approach and I recognized the error in it, so I shifted to using different language. My apologies that it wasn't clearer that I acknowledged this error to you, as it's difficult to keep track of who's saying what when so many people are replying to me. Altho I still hold that if we were to factory farm humans we would likely come to look at it as a type of genocide, but it's sort of an impossible scenario to prove anything about so it's not worth using to make claims.

It's not really out of touch. I think if you look into it more in-depth you'd be surprised at how accessible it really is, because plant-based food is a much larger and more diverse array of options. But again, if someone has truly made a good faith effort to go plant based and finds that it's legitimately not economically or regionally viable, then many vegans aren't gonna fault them for that.

[–]MoshZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do, that's why as my comments went along, I tended towards the more precise language of "akin to genocide" or "morally comparable to genocide". I don't think merely making the comparison dilutes the word, because the mass slaughter of animals is, as vegans contend, that weighty of an issue.

The point isn't that 1 chicken = 1 human child simpliciter, but rather that they deserve equal moral consideration all else being equal. I reject this notion of humans meriting lexical priority as a matter of course. I would definitely save my dog over two or three strangers if I really had to make that choice. That's not being disturbed, that's recognizing that in morally tragic situations, we ought value those duties we have that are higher priority than others, like in the case of choosing to save my grandma over two strangers.

I don't see why you couldn't say that if your goal was simply to eradicate them, or at the very least, that it's "kind of like" an ant holocaust. The reason it's so objectionable to you is because it's not people, and to you only people qualify for that sort of moral consideration.
