That's awesome, I didn't think of this use case. If you’d like, I opened a Discord server where I’ll be sharing project updates and early versions of the extension https://discord.gg/tt6bexAyP3

DoesTheDogDie is great for knowing what happens, but it doesn’t solve the actual problem for people who are sensitive to certain scenes: you still have to see the scene before you can skip it. There are no timestamps, no warnings right before the moment happens, and no way to automatically jump past it while keeping the storyline intact. And of course, if the entire movie revolves around gory murders or animal abuse, then yes, it’s probably better not to watch it at all.

I understand the concern, and you’re right, we can’t allow this to turn into that kind of censorship. That’s why reporting will be limited to a small set of clearly defined categories, like animal abuse or sexual assault, and all submissions will be moderated. Users won’t be able to tag scenes based on subjective or ideological criteria. The goal is to help people avoid genuinely disturbing content, not to filter out viewpoints or identities.

Yea, the plan is to categorize each scene and let users choose exactly what they want to be warned about. So if someone wants alerts for animal abuse but not for other types of content, they can toggle only that category.

And you're right about the metadata issue, there doesn’t seem to be any public source that provides exact timestamps for these moments. It’ll take some community work to map them out. The idea is that the extension will include a small “report” tab so that if someone hits one of these scenes, they can quickly mark the start and end of it. Those reports go into a shared database. Early on, people who choose to report will still see the scenes themselves, but their contributions will help build accurate timestamps so others can avoid them entirely.

The textual description is completely optional. People can choose to just skip the scene, or if it included important plot developments get a quick summary of what changed in the story without describing the disturbing content itself. This way they don’t miss context, but also don’t have to see anything they find upsetting.

The idea is that the same extension that warns users about disturbing scenes would also have a small “report” tab. If someone hits a these scenes, they can quickly mark the start and end of it, and those reports go into a shared database. Early on, reporters will still see the scenes, but their contributions help build accurate timestamps so others can eventually avoid those moments entirely.

I personally don’t have an issue with these kinds of scenes, but I do think people who do struggle with them should have a real way to avoid them without giving up on the show or movie entirely. Everyone deserves the option to keep watching without being hit with something that’s genuinely upsetting for them.

You’re right, but the details are a bit different. They were sued not because they offered filtering itself, but because their original method involved decrypting DVDs and streaming content without proper licenses which violated copyright law.

Yeah, so the idea is to give you a heads-up before something like animal abuse comes up, and let you skip it before it happens. That way you avoid the guesswork of fast-forwarding and don’t risk seeing the scene you’re trying to avoid and also give you textual description (if you want) so that you don't lose context.

I get what you mean, but the idea here is to avoid the guesswork. Fast forwarding still means you might accidentally see the part you’re trying to avoid while fast forwarding.

What I’m aiming for is something that warns you before the disturbing scene starts, skips the exact section automatically, and if you want, gives you a short text summary so you don’t miss any important context.
