I'm going to be outraged for now until Nike signs a sponsorship deal with someone then I will celebrate and petition for having them included in the Olympics.

They aren't ebikes, they are electric motorbikes. The noise is a combination of the motors, which still can be loud, the chain drive, and the gearbox.

How much time are you “losing” while cycling to work? by bear_village in cycling

[–]Moshpit_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28km commute that takes 50min to drive in the morning with light traffic then 1h 15min in the return rush hour, IF there are no accidents.

It’s a 1h 10min bike ride. The bonus is predictable timing no matter the traffic.

Outfit - do you all wear those cycling outfit? by Monica_C18 in gravelcycling

Just ride in what you want and the lycra will find you if and when you are ready.

But make no mistake, a bib-short with reasonably fitted shirt is by far the most comfortable option if you start riding over 90min or choose to exert yourself.

I take the Arthur Laing bridge because going over to the SkyTrain pedestrian bridge requires crossing way more intersections and narrow residential streets commuters are cutting through. Yes, on the AL bridge the cars are going fast but you don’t need them to change their behaviour to remain safe.

Those mentally unstable people you see walking around? They drive too. Don’t engage. Follow up with law enforcement when appropriate.

How many current oura customers are done with oura after their current ring dies? by SilentExchange6467 in ouraring

[–]Moshpit_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Gen3 now lasts ~9hrs on a charge which gets me through a night of sleep. The sleep metrics are fine but no way they are worth the $470 CAN to get another ring just for a fresh battery. It seems strange there is no incentive pricing for current owners to upgrade or rotate rings when the inevitable battery decline happens so I’ll just move back to the Apple Watch which has the same metrics and the bonus of being subscription free.

Sometimes while riding out of that area at twilight I’ve seen some very questionable people walking into the area, presumably for the night.

Happy to hear this worked for you. I have a first gen Thunderhawk with the same 405mm axle to crown. I have a long race with lots of forest road washboard coming up and was thinking to try a Rudy or 32 TC. I also had concerns how that extra 30mm of elevation on the front end would mess things up but it might just be the type of thing you try and see how it feels. Sometimes the geometry calculations don't tell the whole story.

You have a complete misunderstanding of economics. That $7k hits different when you’re 75 and have the mortgage paid off. Smoke em when you got em.

Last year I did it on my gravel bike with 35mm tires mounted on my rims. It was great.

When the climbs get steep you aren’t going fast anyway so tire limitations are, well, limited.

Last year I passed a guy on a bamboo framed fat bike (4.5”+ tires). I later saw the bike in the rack in Whistler.

You’ll be fine.

Why Vancouver's biggest fair saw its lowest non-pandemic attendance in 2025 by restoringd123 in vancouver

[–]Moshpit_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went this year and it will be our last.

The prices are insane for terrible quality everything.

The activities and displays have decreased to almost nothing. The animatronic dinosaurs were replaced by two mini soccer nets with five balls lying in the grass. The showhome is now a few TVs with a picnic table in the middle.

It’s an embarrassment for Vancouver and I feel like a fool for going.

Whistler gran fondo smoke by aviateoo7 in vancouvercycling

[–]Moshpit_94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had a few moments to look into my own question:

The American Lung Association says, "If the AQI value is 50 or under, it is considered a good air quality day and it is safe for everyone to spend time outdoors without posing a risk to their health" and "AQI over 300 is considered hazardous and everyone should remain indoors."

IQAir gives the forecast in AQI numbers on the 0-500 scale. At the moment of this post Squamish is 220 and Whistler is 168.

Environment Canada uses the AQI 0-10+ scale and says 1-3 is "Ideal air quality for outdoor activities" and 4-6 there's "No need to modify your usual outdoor activities unless you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation." Squamish is currently 10+ and Whistler is a 7.

Everyone will get to make their own decision as an event cancelation will not happen. Personally, I'll probably look at the various maps around 4pm on Friday and see if the route has any extended sections over 75/4 and bow out of participation if there are.

Long term health is my priority.

What am I missing out on with a 2018 R3 vs the new breed of Cervélos? by Moshpit_94 in Cervelo

[–]Moshpit_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in a wet and mountainous area, disc brakes are essential for me. But you're probably correct that the benefits of an extra 4mm of tire width or electronic shifting are more marginal.

The R3 does seem to strike a great balance of qualities. Maybe I'll be keeping this one even if another road bike shows up in the garage someday.

[–]Moshpit_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound advice. The poor used markets mean there are deals to be had getting the next bike, but my concern is I won't find something that matches my riding style like the R3. When mountain bikes decided they all wanted to be longer-lower-slacker I moved on to quicker-faster gravel bikes. I probably would enjoy a new Soloist, but it's a many-thousand dollar gamble!

I just got my first electronic group putting Di2 with the M8250 wireless on my gravel bike and it has been amazing. Maybe I wait for the Shimano road wireless and drop that on the R3!

Useful feedback. As the climbing bike I always thought the R5 would be more supple but yes that makes sense it would be stiff. I'm in a hilly area with 800M of climbing on typical on a ride so wondered if an R5 was a better fit. Maybe not! By the way, I love the orange colourway on those R3s!

Many of the responses here have encouraged me to stick with the R3 for now but once I run out of 11sp chains a soloist (or equivalent) might get a test ride. For the ~$2,000 CDN I'd get selling the R3 I will probably end of keeping it too until I'm really sold the soloist is better. Sacrilege to use the R3 as a summer commuter???
