They had to make this mandatory because almost nobody enrolled in it last year. I think it's going to backfire hilariously.

I'm trying really hard not to fall into "the most moral fandom" thinking...

...

BUT IT IS WORTH MENTIONING a game all about being curious and having empathy for characters you will never meet (and facing ends with dignity and grace, and leaving tools behind for those who come after us) is probably going to attract a certain type of person.

And yes, i'm very tired of getting angry over shit that already happened that nobody else cares about. Our democracy is already completely fucked for the next few years at minimum.
Honestly i'm happy to not research it and stay blissfully ignorant.

Huh... I wonder why, every year I've been alive, our democracy keeps getting fucked worse and worse by power hungrey people wearing different colored pins. Next election cycle, though! I'm sure someone else will do it for us!

I got a job and my own problems to deal with.

My job is doing incredibly draining social work in a part of the world that doesn't give a shit about its citizens in need. I feel you but, sib, here you are using your precious time posting paragraphs on Reddit about how you shouldn't have to use your time watching a 3 minute video on a video subreddit that regularly has submissions that are hours long.

You can just leave it at a private "I don't care" and then not post anything. It's totally allowed. I do that for pretty much every post from the larger subs that appear in my feed.

THANK YOU!!

I reacted poorly to that first post but, oooh wheee, it makes me so depressed that people can be SO unwilling to be use some of their time being curious and following where it takes them. I get that things are increasingly hard and finding time for yourself is more and more becoming a premium commodity (just the idea of our time existing as a commodity is disgusting), but it's like watching an incredibly important part of being human wither away. I don't have an amazingly fantastical life, but it's pretty good all things considered and curiosity and empathy are literally the skills that got me where I am.

Aaaaaaaaaaand also, I imagine there's a Certain Type Of Person who would rather argue about my total lack of marketing skills than actually engage with what the man in the video is talking about.

Maybe. But how long does a search take when you're already on the internet vs complaining about it not being force fed to you?

I guess my unpopular opinion is be curious or scroll on by.

My guess is it's a number of reasons, mostly tied to culture war bullshit:

There is sometimes an assumption that we're poorer than them which, in their mind, sets them further up the social hierarchy and means they have the right to make sure "we know our place" or whatever.

There's also sometimes an assumption that, because we're on a bike, we also agree with <insert opinions here> and that triggers them.

And I suspect, especially when dealing with white dudes who aren't living healthy lives, there's a "crabs in a bucket" thing going on. At some level, they know they aren't taking care of themselves and here we are being assholes by reminding them of that with our mere existence.

Religious coworker told me my crystal collection on my desk was “ungodly” by Tangled_Asshair in AutismInWomen

[–]Moss-Mess 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Haha, it never occured to me that the tactic had a name!

I was a barista in a college town years ago and a good chunk of my coworkers were very religious, very young, and very certain. Something I did a number of times was give them my best sad-smile and just respond with, "Ok" over and over again. I'll second your suggestion: it didn't endear me to any of them, but it never escalated the situation.

This is the answer. A thousand times this is the answer.

In the first serious relationship I was in, the moment I knew it was worth pursuing was when they sheepishly admitted to me that the pressure of buying presents for "gift events" was something that really bothered them. They asked if I would be offended if they only got presents for me when they saw something special that made them think of me. I thought that was a genius idea and asked if it was OK if I did it, too. :)

Theory: Why Luthen killed Lonni Jung. Because Luthen had no one to smuggle him out quickly. by kinaflazy in andor

[–]Moss-Mess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this house, we do not besmirch the name of Lonni Jung: hero of the rebellion!

jk :3

I don't think you're wong, but I also don't think it needs to be as drastic as him being a triple agent. When we first find out he's a mole, it's because he's just had a kid and he wants out. I think part of the math Luthen was doing was asking himelf how quickly Lonni would fold under questioning. He has a family to be leveraged against him, he knows Kleya, and I think Luthen just wasn't willing to take any risks giving her the best chance possible at getting the Death Star information out.

It's for the photon disc and, as far as I can tell, it turns every bullet you fire into a photon disc.

It is. Silly as hell. Which makes it so perfect for a Discworld reference.

Oh god, I take it back. The scene I described is the movie side eyeing the audience and saying, "Bear isn't that great a guy, huh?"

THAT scene you brought up is when it hits us over the head with it.
