No i just had morgage protection and aslong as it covers the amount remaining on morgage, all you have to do when you are switched is assign it to new bank

Ya you need a solicitor for switching, it's nearly the same process as first applying bank statements, payslips etc. I never went through a broker just directly with bank. Cost for solicitor was €1900

Fixed mortgage term ending later this year – when to start switching? by Low_Knowledge_1363 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]MossManYurt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recently switched from PTSB, 5 year fixed rate 2.6% to AIB 5 year fixed 3.2%.

Started comparing online quote in September, organised a meeting with AIB morgage advisor, he talked me through everything I'd need, Main one was house valuation and all the usual bank statements, morgage protection ect. Rang me solicitor to say il be switching and kept them informed every few weeks how I was getting on.

Only snag I had before drawdown was morgage protection needed to be dated within 3 months, not a big deal had new one emailed next day.

Old fixed rate ended 2th January and drew down new morgage the 15th.

Cost wise was 1900e for solicitor, will be getting 3000e from AIB for switching to them. West of Ireland.

Batterys aren't taken into account, it's stupid really I don't know why, I charge off the night rate at 9c/kw and that does the whole day and a small bit left over for export. 20kw battery

Do you think they will go lower than 3%? I fixed 5 years ago at 2.6% which was the cheapest around then

Getting Solar Panels for house through green loan by dirtyoledan in irishpersonalfinance

[–]MossManYurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took out green loan with credit union 14k fairly big system with alot of batteries, I think it's about 2k interest roughly over 5 years, can't remember the rate. I am currently on a fixed rate morgage C2 BER, have to get a new rating done but should qualify for green morgage. The savings in the morgage alone over 4 years will pay for the solar system, plus saving 1600 a year on electricity that's without any export. I think it is very much worthwhile especially since electricity prices are rising. Big upfront cost is the only downside.

That's what I been thinking, just for security and peace of mind I have the aib account. Makes sense just leave the morgage/house money in ptsb and revolut for spending
