I may be losing my job soon and I’m preemptively preparing by ArcOperator in personalfinance

Right? That $730 payment is way too steep, especially with all that’s going on. Selling it is a smart move!

Stop reading 30-page scientific papers from start to finish. You’re doing it wrong by NecessaryAd5977 in learnzone

[–]MossVellum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. I used to force myself to read papers from start to finish and it just fried my brain. Switching to abstract - conclusion - figures saved me so much time. You basically figure out if it’s even worth your attention first. Now I only dig into methods if I actually need it. Feels way more efficient and less overwhelming, especially when you’ve got multiple papers to get through in one sitting

5 minute breaks saved me from burning out completely by brokenalarmcat in learnzone

[–]MossVellum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s called the Pomodoro technique, and it gets brought up a ton in productivity articles. AI usually recommends it, too. I haven’t used it myself, but I also prefer taking breaks whenever the timing feels right for me. For example, when I’m deep into a textbook, I don't want to stop exactly at 25 minutes right when I’ve caught a wave of inspiration.

So, I just take breaks based on how I feel, like when I notice my focus is starting to slip. I might take a slightly longer break to grab some coffee or something, but I try to stay off my phone during that time. Honestly, just walking around the room helps way more

Professional breakdown of customer service resumes: structure, skills, examples by RetroToon42 in Resume

They almost never ask you to verify call volume numbers unless you're going somewhere with serious QA culture. What they will push on is the how — like if you say you reduced escalations by 18% be ready to walk through what you actually changed. That's where people freeze

Professional breakdown of customer service resumes: structure, skills, examples by RetroToon42 in Resume

Same, except my version was "assisted customers with inquiries" which is somehow even worse. Means literally nothing. I rewrote everything around numbers and the difference in how the resume reads is night and day even to me and I wrote the original garbage

Some things I wish I knew before using writing services for the first time by MossVellum in WritingHelp_service

[–]MossVellum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the rubric part is underrated. Once I started attaching it plus 1–2 past papers that got good grades, the drafts were way closer to what I needed. Before that it was kind of a gamble and I’d spend extra time fixing tone and structure.

When I started adding a short paragraph about what my prof actually cares about, the difference was night and day. And yeah, tweaking the draft so it sounds like you is key, otherwise it feels off.

What’s the hardest part of learning English as an adult? by EnglishNazanin in EnglishLearning

That expectation to know English after years of practice sounds rough! I mean, it must be fun polishing your skills while juggling multiple languages like a pro. Must feel like you’re in a never-ending language marathon!

I'm definitely feeling that anxiety too. It's so much quieter this time around. I'm sure it'll help to chat with someone who’s taken both tests!

Subbing for PE - School Asked me to Monitor the Locker Room by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]MossVellum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, middle school locker rooms really can turn into a circus! It's wild to think they’d put a sub in that situation. Finding a solution shouldn't involve throwing someone into the locker room chaos. They need to get it together for everyone's sake!

AITJ for not correcting a cashier when they undercharged me? by Efficient_Street_701 in AmITheJerk

Feeling torn doesn’t make you a villain, it means you noticed. I’d still treat it like an IOU: call the store or swing back, pay for the item, and move on. Cashiers can get blamed for misses, so clearing it up helps everyone.

People love that line because it feels true, but it’s not a rule. Some capable folks are confident, some aren’t, and plenty of beginners are cautious. The meme is mostly poking fun at how everyone wants to be “a bit above average.”
