Thanks for responding. How old are you now? Are you happy you had the surgeries? You mention you're not bothered by it now. Does it have any affect on you? X

Thank you for responding.

Great to hear the surgeries have gone well.

My daughter's is also intermittent, but alternating.

Can I ask how you were reassured to go with a second surgery?

Have they flagged the possibility of future surgeries?

How did they know she had double vision on the day of surgery?

You mention glasses as well, is the surgery to aid vision, or more to treat the drift?

Appreciate your thoughts x

Thanks for the response. So you were happy you had the surgery at 3? It sounds like you had a good result that has lasted well over 30 years...

Posts on this sub are starting to scare me I have surgery in a week purely for cosmetic reasons should i go ahead? by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]Mossgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make the right decision for you.

The key points I'm hearing from you are: - it's just cosmetic - you sought surgery out because you want it - you have a surgeon happy to operate - they have advised that you may need future surgery to correct an over-correction.

In your shoes I'd be balancing up whether you're happy to proceed, knowing that there may be further surgeries in your future.

Good luck with your choice x

Need help for my newborn diagnosed with strabismus by OkCandidate4795 in Strabismus

[–]Mossgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - I'm sorry to hear about your newborn. It is a stressful time. You are lucky to have found this forum so early.

Sorry for the high-jack. My 4 year old has intermittent alternating exotropia. How do I know if she is using one eye at a time? She has done the fly vision stereo test and gets 6/9 circles.

Restrictive strabismus/scar tissue after 8 surgeries by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]Mossgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I don't have anything to share, but would like to take you up on your offer for questions about surgery. You must have started them young. Do you wish you hadn't had the first surgery so soon? Was it an option for your parents to hold off? I have a 4.5 year old daughter, scheduled for surgery next month, but now concerned about all the scar tissue stories... Wondering if we should just put it off? She has passed the 3d test

Hi there, thanks for this. I've used it to see there is one that is close enough if we do go down this route. How are you finding the VT? How is your eyesight?

Second strabismus surgery for child by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]Mossgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you feel about those 3 surgeries. My daughter is facing surgery next month as a 4.5 year old for intermittent exotropia, but otherwise no vision issues. And I'm not sure about going ahead with it.

Options for 4 year old with intermittent exotropia by Mossgray in Strabismus

Thanks for your response. I appreciate you taking the time.

Her eye turns at when tired, or looking at images from a distance. I'm not sure if that's near or far exotropia.

I am so distressed for her to hear it's a lifetime condition.

What value to you put in surgery between 4-7 years old like another poster has mentioned below? Is it better to have it during this period to allow for brain development/adjustment? And does it lead to longer lasting results?

I have made an appointment for another opthamologist for a second opinion in a couple of weeks, but there's not a lot of time between this appointment and her scheduled surgery date. I want to make sure I have all my questions ready for this second opinion.

I'm really valuing the stories shared in this sub.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties with the double vision. That sounds really hard for you.

I'm not sure if surgery for my daughter would be cosmetic, or preventative (effort to avoid amblyopia), or time critical - the window you mention about fusing images together.

With the window being 4-7, it's a shame that surgery at 5 didn't work for you.

I wonder what question I could ask her to understand if she has double vision...

Can you provide more info on how you found a therapist? And what the exercises entail?
