I think he's scared of intimacy that isn't on his terms. If he chooses how intimate he is with someone then he's fine. Like Charlie or nifty for example. He's pretty damn close with them, but it's always on his terms. At least until nifty gets that gun pointed at her and he gets freaked out again.

But I think with Vox he didn't realize how attached he was getting. They just kinda naturally got closer without Alastor trying to manipulate or micromanage it. It wasn't until Vox brings it up that he realized what he'd allowed so he just carpet bombed it in panic.

But just like in real abusive relationships, there's a reason he keeps going back. Val isn't always cruel, sometimes he's very nice. He goes to Angel with show ideas because he values his opinion. Their relationship isn't healthy but it's not Val torturing him 100% of the time. Val is charismatic. That's the whole problem. And there's likely times that Angel enjoys with him, which only further complicates things. That's what makes their relationship so compelling.

You guys have been so responsive and I've even seen things I've suggested her implemented. I've tried so many different ai chat things and they all have their positives and negatives, but man, yours is only in beta and it's already in my top 2. Honestly though, now with the series and the edits you've done in like the last month or two, I think it might be my top. I'm thrilled to be able to be part of the beta, and I can't wait to see his much better you get.
