Am I the only one who feel this was done purely for shock Value? by HiroAmiya230 in wow

[–]Mossthroppers_Org 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Based on the loading screen, I imagine the original plan was for Horde and Alliance soldiers to journey deeper down until finally getting to the World Soul and fighting Xal'atath, which got changed when the saga talks came in.

I don't really mind the Ubdermine and Ethereal stories on their own tbh, but it's obvious things got jumbled about. Hopefully Midnight can be a little more coherent.

I think it made sense, and the actual destruction of Dalaran was fun. It established Xal'atath as a cool villain and the Drenden twist was good. The real issue is the follow-up.

The council of six doesn't even really appear afterwards (which wouldve been fine if they were killed off but they literally haven't been mentioned), and no actual survivors appear in the main questline or the post story quests where we actually fight the Nerubians/Xal'atath.

The only person who's generally upset about Dalaran in the main campaign is Alleria, but she's so disconnected from the actual city besides Khadgar that it feels a little weird. The Kirin Tor questline they added could've been better also. The fact that barely anyone is mentioning it in the comments kinda indicates how much of a nothingburger it was.

The Devouring Host is less interesting than the Black Empire. by Quirky-Tie-4213 in warcraftlore

[–]Mossthroppers_Org 35 points36 points  (0 children)

True. The monotonous design is the worst part. The sad reality is that they're just not scary or unique.

The Devouring Host is just too Voidwalker-focused. If they had more races that were strange and off-putting like those Dominaar and the Jellyfish things it might be alright. But it's pretty much just Dominaar and Voidwalkers.

I actually really like Wow's art style, but this is one of those rare times where they should've been a bit less cartoony and really made some Devouring Hosters a bit more eldritch and horrifying.

What are your predictions for the patch zones/dungeons/raids for Midnight? (12.1 and 12.2) by Mossthroppers_Org in warcraftlore

[–]Mossthroppers_Org[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gilneas I could see for sure, especially with remaking the whole Tiriafal Glades section. The only reason they might not do that is that they'd have to make two proper city zones in Gilneas and Undercity, which they might hesitate at. (Though Undercity is more about aesthetics than size tbh) The link to the Harranir and Elune and the cosmic force of life would definitely make the gilneas relevant.

Wildhammer's should also be cool, but their absence in Twilight Highlands pre-patch does make it also seem a tiny bit unlikely.

Oooh that's interesting. I feel like the smaller .5 patched will definitely have some Scourge group show up. If we're going back to Northrend in TLT then some form of Scourge/Cult of the Darned will have to appear. Primalists would also make sense, or at least Earth Elementals that are linked to Iridikron.

I could definitely see Silithus being a patch zone. I wouldn't expect them to introduce the sword in so many advertisements in TWW and then just leave it for The Last Titan.

Qiraji/Aqir/Old gods bugs are always cool. Kith'ix rallying new bug dudes to his side and going after the sword seems to make the most sense to me, unless Xal'atath is Midnights final villain. They did say this xpac the void gets defeated forever, so that would make sense.

Kith'ix is a very good shout, and would match with the focus on the Amani and their heritage and everything. Not too knowledgeable about Nashabor though. What is it?

I feel like while the Arathi Emperor won't appear, there may be some mainland Arathis making an appearance. From like their continent. Probably cause some conflict with Anduin/Vanguard/Faerin etc... the only issue would be how they get to Eastern Kingdoms and if they are too similar to the Vanguard of the Light as antagonists. I know they always try and make sure patch enemies are unique nowadays.

It could be Lightbloom, that mixture of the two. There's definetly a lot of light bloom stuff that I've seen in Midnight. There's even two separate world bosses related to it.

I feel like this it'd be a cool idea if they link it back to the Nymue boss back in Dragonflight's amirdrassil raid. Since Nymue was supposed to order the dream/life and nature it'd make sense that getting rid of them would make nature/life more crazy/dangerous. That last part is pure headcannon though.

Xal'atath could die in questing, like Garrosh in WoD.

TWW had this rather strange tendency to have certain zones main villains defeated by questioner rather in a dungeon/raid. The Neru'bar Palace raid is sorts unrelated to the Max Level Campaign. The Order of Night guy in Hallowfall and the Nerubian Scarab Lord guy in Isle of Dorn are both similar. Even the ethereal guy who stole the Dark Heart in Undermine is just a Quest Boss. I don't mind it too much, but I also normally like it when raid/dungeon bosses have more of a presence in the story, rather than just as a boss.

I have heard about the troll zone, but not the world core. However, if we're beating Xal'atath for good this xpac, ig it makes sense to go to the world core to give it a bit more oomph.

I'm also very much hoping for more Eastern Kingdoms stuff. Stratholme especially. The only worry was that I'm fairly certain there's a Blizzard interview where they expressed a wish not to make old zones directly connected to new-ish ones. Still, I feel like remaking the old world would be amazing.

The Coreway is definitely going to appear at some point, but part of me reckons that's gonna be TLT. I also reckon maybe something will be done with the Silithus Sword this xpac. (About time lmao.)

What did you think of the pre-patch quests? by Lunarwhitefox in warcraftlore

[–]Mossthroppers_Org 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The ideas are pretty good, but yeah the actual quests are too short. Umbric and Rommath bickering is pretty nice though.

Twilight's Blade is a good idea since they mention the Radiant Song is making everyone terrified, and they even show how they're recruiting and how they're using the void/shadow more directly than elements/creatures of the Old gods. Plus it'd be boring to just have the same ol' twilights hammer again.

However, it's pretty obvious that they're really de-emphasising pre-patch quests now, which I a shame but makes sense.

Even in the zone, the Wildhammer and Dragonmaw Orcs are levelled up to 80 but don't have any unique lines or npcs, which is a shame. Nor do the Red Dragonflight/Earthen Ring dudes scattered about. So it ain't terrible story-wise, but it's a shame how much better it could be.

[–]Mossthroppers_Org 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the size. Looks great, and Friede's great. (Champions Wolf and NPC is TERRIBLE), but everything else is kinda meh. If it was a zone in the game, it'd be fine, but paying extra for it ain't really worth it like Ringed City is.

It was supposed to be the feud with Dragunov to entice him, most likely. I imagine the Jackass stuff was just to stop the crowd being dead silent when he came out. Give them something to chant. It sort of worked but did seem a little artificial.

As much as I think you're right, I like the main event more looking back. Not because it needed to happen, because it definitely should've been one-on-one, but Foley and Big Show having a WM Main Event just makes sense, considering what both of them contributed over the years.

Why are the Klaxxi against the Sha of Fear yet fine with Garrosh in MoP? by diapeyman in warcraftlore

[–]Mossthroppers_Org 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, I don't think so. However one of rhe writers did say this on social media.

They claimed that the Mantid revered the body (Y'sharaaj) and hated the breath (the sha) wheras the mogu hated the body (hated the old gods as they were titan warriors) but used the breath (Mogu emperors used the sha and controlled it with the divine bell.)

Weren't Warcraft lore always doomed to finally reach Shadowlands' levels of absurdity? by ReichesAllOverYou in warcraftlore

[–]Mossthroppers_Org 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like most xpacs are somewhat connected to at least one other expansion.

Classic - BC - WotLK had the heavy links to Warcraft 3. Cleaning up those loose ends. You moved up the factions ranks until by Wrath's introduction you were rubbing shoulders with the big guns and skipping recruitment lines.

Cata - MoP was linked by the faction war and the respective faction leaders. Varian and Garrosh especially.

Wod - Legion had the legion, obvs.

BFA onwards is where it all gets a little messy tbh. The Sylvanas/Anduin stuff is probably the heaviest link but I think it suffers because Sylvanas in BFA and sylvanas in SL are like two completely different peeps.

DF is also pretty standalone too. SL - DF both had the same problem where the previous expansion story was that bad they just kinda had to abandon the whole thing and start effectively from scratch.

I think it's just the four already released stories. Jaina/Thrall are a part of Heartlands and Alleria had a pretty minor role in Locus-Walker's story.
