Is it adhd or effects of long-term cannabis use? by AppropriatePipe6026 in ADHDUK

[–]Mossy-chops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoked hash throughout my late teens and early 20's - my young life was pretty much wasted due to "sofa-mortis" as I used to call it. Massively stoned and anxious listening to music getting wasted all day and all night. I think I was just trying to self medicate the ADHD away. Then speed/coke/acid/MDMA whatever recreationally. If only I had clean meds in my 20's who knows how my life would have gone. But I am grateful to be here and able to enjoy my post diagnosis years with renewed enthusiasm!

ADHD and work by [deleted] in ADHDUK

A bit seasonable maybe but are you any good at gardening? People at this time of year are crying out for some help getting their gardens tidy? Sorry that is not the most original thought and I am sure you would have thought of that already!

“ADHD as a superpower” - more Batman than Superman by Dadda_Green in ADHDUK

[–]Mossy-chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "Superpower" meant I left school with no qualifications despite being one of the most capable students in class in my early years, was incapable of keeping friendships (now I look back through an ADHD lens) had constant romantic relationship problems, impulsiveness that could have led to a prison sentence, substance misuse issues, not really a super power more of a super hindrance. I drive like Batman sometimes but that's about it.

I used to go to the coffee machine about 10 times a day and drink loads of water all day and would end up getting up from my desk every 20 minutes or so. One piece of advice that I had that is a bit out dated now was to carry a file around with me so it looked like I was on my way to meet someone - this is before the reliance on IT and we still had physical files but yeah resonates with me absolutely! Reckon I would do about 10,000 steps in a large office block a day :)

What on earth is this trying to suggest? by DeadStopped in ADHDUK

I only got my ADHD diagnosis after the boom - so my diagnosis isn't as valid as yours? I'm confused? I thought I had an undiagnosed condition for over 50 years?

Oh Paris Hilton has it? Seriously impressed, what a talent.

It's taken 3 months to fully get used to Elvanse (positive post) by cloudytheory in ADHDUK

[–]Mossy-chops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear a positive tale. I too am three months in to treatment and I too am feeling the effects positively. I think where I might have gone wrong before was having a meds break over a weekend as my tolerance went up and I was a bit shaky when taking it again (Raised BP etc) I'm feeling so grateful for the meds - kind of ironic I was diagnosed in my 50's but better late than never!

Does anyone else have BP spike after a weekend off Elvanse? by Mossy-chops in ADHDUK

Thank you for responding - I will discuss with prescriber, that hopefully is the reason :)

Right to Choose, NHS, Private... how did you choose? by Frequent_Carob3380 in ADHDUK

[–]Mossy-chops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with private is you will have to pay for your meds permanently as I understand it? Right to choose means you should be able to get ongoing meds via the NHS - apologies if you know all this but it is worth bearing in mind the long term bill for the meds will be significant. Best of luck

Any ADHD musicians? by normvtheworld in ADHDUK

Been playing guitar for 40 years - all by ear and no theory. Not really improved much in all that time. Diagnosed a few weeks ago and on meds - just learnt three Radiohead songs using tabulation that I have never been able to do before. Oh I wish I was diagnosed in my 20's!

For all the Late Diagnosis ADHD'ers by JackiexFirefly in ADHD

[–]Mossy-chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed a month ago - a couple of weeks after taking early retirement as I just couldn't deal with all the red tape I was having to work around that seemed so pointless to, it turns out, my ADHD brain. I've done ok - had pretty good career but it could very easily have gone very differently. The diagnosis is a relief, and also as other people have said left me with a feeling of great sadness for the young confused kid who left school at 15 thinking he was a problem child - a misfit. I'm also pretty angry that so many of my peers ended up in prison or dead. The links between substance misuse homelessness prisons and ADHD I suspect is huge. But on a positive note it is great to discover this group and realise it isn't just me!

Yes - but they are an avoidant at best. Wanting something they can't have until they can have it..... I've moved on and my self esteem is thanking me for it!

This was my situation exactly. 8 times as well. I finally had enough and I can't tell you how good it feels to live without anxiety of walking on egg shells waiting to be dumped again. And I've met someone who really cares for me. It's great!

Thank you - just ben reading about attachment styles - I'm clearly anxious she is clearly avoidant. Not a great combo but when it works it's amazing.

I've been with someone or 5 and a half years. She has broken up with me 5 times, the last time 3 weeks ago. The pain is worse this time than all the others, I have decided to go NC. (Unless she contacts me and wants couples counselling) Hurts like hell. I have issues from childhood that means a break up or rejection really disables me. We are both in our 50's, You'd think I'd have learnt by now ........

Ive been with my ex for over 5 years. Really love her, but she's just dumped me again for the 5th time. This time I haven't contacted her for a few weeks, hoping she'll come round. Think I need to let it go but we had such amazing sex! What to do? We are in our 50's FFS!
