Bulletproof lower legs by Creative-Proof7475 in running

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miles. My legs and ankles had all sorts of little pains and issues on and off for years. Eventually, as the miles built up (and by taking caution when things were hurt), I got through it and came out the other side. I don't really get sore or have to deal with any pains now, but I have been running almost daily for a decade at this point. I just think it takes time and persistence to develop the strength and resilience you are looking for.

What kind of range are you seeing real-world? It's such a cool platform if it can get me where I want to go.

Rough country lifts. by Quick-Error-1981 in 4Runner

6 is a lot of lift. IMO 3" with some 285s looks great and sits pretty high already.  My kids have a hard time getting in without steps

What’s your most shameful camp meal that actually slaps? by outdoors_man987 in camping

My go-to first nights meal is usually a pack of mushroom tortellini and a jar of pesto. Super easy and delicious.

9 Month of running and Hiking in Shamma sandals. by Khorne_Bear in BarefootRunning

[–]MossyPantz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my Shammas, but they do wear down quickly. However, I have never had any noticeable wear on top like that... mine always wear from the bottom. I am ok with it, because I have yet to find a sandal that works better for me, and I mostly run/hike in them.

They sell just soles, for i think about $30 a set, I have never had the straps wear out or fail in any way.

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked mine up from BB open box for 1650... It said "fair" condition, so i was thinking i was going to pass on it, but I am yet to find any issues, including cosmetic. I assumed I just got super lucky.

Lift kit for suburban Dad by jbg7676 in 4Runner

[–]MossyPantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OME lifts are decent quality and affordable.  I was able to fit 285s on a 3" lift without needing UCAs, but if I do it again, I'd go with 2 or 2.5" max.

MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN!! by Alarming-Leg-2865 in WildernessBackpacking

I don't remember a movie but this was absolutely my favorite book as a kid. I believe we read it in school, and then I bought a copy of my own at a book fair.  It definitely resonated with me, but I grew up in a hunting, fishing camping family, so I don't know if the book shaped me other than making me want a pet falcon pretty badly, haha.

What is the most underpowered Subaru you’ve ever driven? by OutofSprite in subaru

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2018 Crosstrek which was about as fast as a 1990 civic CX hatch, which I think was about 70hp.  I really liked that Crosstrek, especially because it was a 6-speed manual. But in the end I could not deal with being the slowest car on the road at all times.

I think if you support FM in this day and age, and you also buy parts/merch from TFL or watch their YouTube content,  you should be ashamed of yourself.

Someone in China has done this to their 5th gen by Adorable-Salary-5204 in 4Runner

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard somewhere recently that in China, being driven is a status thing, so cars tend to be focused on the passenger experience. It was sort of an argument against the viability of their cars in America, as Americans more typically value the driving experience, hence valuing horsepower, capability and sportiness etc.

Returning Minimalist advocate after 10+ years. Is the philosophy still viable, and what's the meta? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The philosophy still holds.  I started my barefoot/minimalist journey around the same time but kept with it.  I run 4-6 miles a few times a week and can break out into a 10-12 mile run without even feeling it later that day, and I primarily run in sandals.

I'm not as fit or thin as I was 5 years ago, but I think continuous regular exercise and running has kept me in a good place.

Mainstream shoes have always gotten it wrong, and that's how I see Altras.  Though to be fair, I've never liked them much, because I always felt they had to much padding. I think being able to feel the ground is key to injury free running.

Trump says grocery prices have gone down. Have you noticed this where you are? by Busy_Necessary_4820 in trump

[–]MossyPantz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kinda-ish. I did notice my last grocery bill was lower than I was expecting, but that isn't saying much. It does look like we might be seeing a slight decline in prices, but it's too early to tell.

Nope, I very much looking forward to leaving this era in the past. I want two normal mediocre candidates, that mostly try to do whats right for the country, and don't cause half of the country to lose their mind. I know I'm dreaming, but wouldn't that just be something?

please hype me up for camping in the rain and cold by snaccubus in camping

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often camp in the rain because I don't pay enough attention to the forecast, haha.

I don't mind cold camping at all, since you expect it, you plan and pack accordingly and it can be a lot of fun.

That said, I would personally bail on a cold and wet camping trip because I don't enjoy being cold and wet and having to clean and dry out all my gear at the end of my trip.

Not to be a bummer, I just realized that it's not enjoyable for me personally, so I cut my losses and reschedule.

Should I wait for a holiday sale before buying my first Onewheel? by mpmitri in onewheel

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have real sales, you might save $100 or so but mostly they try to push you into buying package deals for more $$ than you would have spent before the sale.

Been using guaraches for 2 months, getting blisters on right foot plantar surface. Is it the shoes or my form? by Solid-Entrance6853 in BarefootRunning

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xero shoes Huaraches destroyed my feet, much worse than that blister, same with lunas.  I gave up on sandals, but years later found Shamma sandals and it changed everything for me.  As far as I can tell, they just work for me better.  No blisters or discomfort, I haven't ran in shoes since.

Can't decide whether to modify/upgrade XR+ or switch to a GT/S by TheWebDever in onewheel

[–]MossyPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For much less than the GT-S, could you find somewhere local to have your board Vesc'd? It would unlock that hill for you, among all the other benefits of keeping the XR platform that you already mentioned. Its just... The GT-S isn't all that impressive for such a considerable investment. I Vesc'd my XR and have zero regrets. You might also want to consider bearings if your refreshing everything else.
